their style has always been tasty creative riffs and grooves rather than solos. but i agree, if they added sick solos, that would push the instrumental aspect of this band into a whole new realm of awesomeness
The closest thing to that reality is probably Protest the Hero's earlier albums. Being a fan of both bands I wish there was some fluidity between the two sounds, but they're successful because of their trademark styles.

Paper/tape/foam stops the strings ringing behind the nut, can create really high ringing notes which are unwanted

I'm not sure if it's a "can't" so much as solos are kinda blasé and cheesy in metalcore stuff
