I’m assuming this happened because you didn’t do the toriel fight, so the flowey scene didn’t play. The only other time you can leave the ruins is during true pacifist, so it defaults to that.
The code branch probably something like:
Player entered: ruinsExitRoom
If: Player fought Toriel;
then (play: floweyScene)
else;
set scene: truePacifist
Make sense, because flowey has different dialogue depending on what did you do with Toriel
@@jojo_vegetables Flowey just gets placeholder text for obvious reasons, and the game doesn't know what to do after because you didn't fight Toriel and can't load dialogue based on your choices because no choices was made. Basically it's either Flowey traps you there forever in a state of confusion, or you skip the entire game

so toriel is the only thing that prevents us from a early true pacifist route

I tried to a couple bosses and I just got crashed/soft locked

The flowey error thing happens because the text depends on toriel and what you do to her and because you didnt fight her the game gets confused
not confused just a thing to catch "dirty hackers"
@@BRY0402 **Exactly** confused, if it was a thing then it would have had a special dialogue and the game wouldn't instantly go to pacifist route. What the game does is that it places a placeholder text due to the requirements of a normal text not being met (Kill / spare / kill and load then spare) and if you leave the ruins in this state then it gets utterly confused due to you being able to return to the ruins when it's not available until the pacifist ending
@@Spelo1You are correct regarding Flowey’s dialogue requirements; since the player skipped Toriel entirely, it has a failsafe error message that prevents the game from crashing (but also stops the player from progressing due to a bug with his dialogue) so the player is not able to leave the RUINs. But something about “the game being confused and loading pacifist when exiting the ruins” made me curious and I thought about why that happens. This is all just speculation on my part, but I believe it goes like this…
The door has several different states: one for loading into a neutral/pacifist run, and one for the genocide run. Both of them have this transition effect, where upon entering it the game fades to white and shows the UNDERTALE logo, then it loads the Snowdin area with different dialogue for Sans and Papyrus, and different music too. Another state for the door is “true pacifist” where after finishing the final boss, the player can return to the RUINs and enter through the door as many times as they like. When it’s in this state, the door transition is removed so it doesn’t become a hassle to exit the RUINs every time. When you first start the game, the door NEEDS to have a default state; otherwise if you hacked the game to skip past everything and enter it, it would just crash. Somewhere during the run (either during the battle with Toriel or while talking to Flowey) there’s a flag set to determine which state the door should be in and the game loads the next area that corresponds to each flag (those being neutral and genocide). But since the player skips both of those events, neither of those two flags are activated so the game just uses whatever the default state of the door is, which is true pacifist. Since the true pacifist state doesn’t have the transition effect, I think that’s the default state of the door. And because you’re exiting the door normally, the game is thinking (well they just exited the door without a neutral flag or genocide flag activated, so they must be in the epilogue) and that’s the state it loads Snowdin in. Whether or not this is intentional is anybody’s guess, but it definitely makes sense from a programming perspective why true pacifist is the default state.
This isn’t the only technical explanation behind it though, there’s could be a bunch of different possibilities for what’s happening in the games code during this process. This is just what I think the most likely scenario is. Sorry for the long reply! 😅

I wonder why it does this? Is the default state of the game true pacifist? And if so does it just update as it needs too and you bypassed that? What if you leave the ruins this way whilst in a no mercy state? (Kill everything you can in the ruins then try to leave this way?) Will it still be true pacifist or will it be in another state?
I bet the game won’t function right if Toriel doesn’t stop you so maybe that’s why their the wrong sprites
I think there is a flag in the game if you go to the ruins a second time, (which I think is only possible at the end of true pacifist), asriel will be there.
@@arkydaarcticfox9497 maybe but sometimes doing something your not supposed to in game can break it like there was a glitch in hot lands where if you pressed all four buttons instead of the three screws up alphy’s text box causing the random letters all over the text box

There is a simpler answer. You normally cannot re-enter the ruins after you leave. The only exception is during the True Pacifist epilogue. Thus, there is no reason to check for game state other than you have left the Ruins before.

So, it softlocks in the ruins becouse the dialogue changes for what you did, so since you didn't fight Toriel, it has no idea of what to do, I immagine that talking to flowey sets a flag but since you ignored him it doesn't do anything and turns in to pacifist?

the thing with Epilouge is that it’s tied to completely different flags in the game. so if you’re in this state, can you die? I know speedruns like LV 20 Pacifst use epilogue glitches so does this activate the same game state?

The bug with flowey happened because his dialogue depends on whether or not you killed toriel or if your in a genocide route so the game does this if you skip her fight
Also by skipping toriel and flowey and doing the scene with sans and paps you literally completed the true pacifist route

You can do that by making it so every thing has ice physics so you don’t get soft lock by flow you still get the boss tho but yiu can flee and yiu skip sans

Flowey's dialoge after the toriel fight is different depending on what you did in such fight. So by skipping the fight tge game doesnt know what dialogue to make flowey say, therfor softlocking (the "error" is just the text toby set to show if the game doesnt know what text to show). As for the game thinking you beat true pacifist after exiting, that one is a bit more complicated. I assume the game doesnt know what route you are on based off the fact that you didnt fight toriel. Either killing or sparing toriel affects the ebding, so the game looks for a scenario where you exit the ruins without going throught the toriel fight and triggers the true pacifist ending due to that being the only story flag where you can leave the ruins without getting blocked by toriel. In all the game just gets really confused due to toriel being one of the key monsters to determining what route your on and where in the story your in. Note that i have no experience coding and this is just my assumptions.

I know that it is impossible, but try adding a mercy animation and try it. I tried it with a yellow name and nothing happened.

I have a question, please comment if you have an answer. There are specific themes of monsters in each area, yes? Snowdin's enemy theme is icy and snowy enemies (apart from the bosses), Waterfall is like fish and water type enemies, hotland is firey enemies, core is advanced versions of ruins enemies and true lab os amalgamates. So, What is the theme of the ruins enemies????

I think the reason that flowey freaks out is because you didn't set off any of the toriel fight flags eg; sparing her, killing her, going back to last save after killing her ect. so it had nothing for flowey to say but it tried to force him to say something
