Love Cipha! Listened to him on hot97 throughout my whole childhood & finally got to meet him a few years ago after he DJ'd a Chappelle show & let him know I was a huge Juan Ep fan. Hands down the coolest person I ever met.
Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill all came out around the same time, 1986 ish... Those movies are why I joined. Although, unlike Cipha, I actually did it.
This was such a good listen. I like this guys voice going high when he gets excited like Tim Dillon. Also, thank you so much for pointing out that an actual professional acknowledged that hip hop/rap isn’t nowhere near as good as it was in the early 2000’s and older. I thought it was just me feeling that way.

Man this was such a great Episode. So glad he had that advice for his 16yr old self too because the whole time I was thinking to myself "dam* this dude has worked with so many greats, yet he is almost too humble about it" Nice to hear Pharell gave him that backed pay too.
Right off the bat I loved how he explained being Puerto Rican ethnically, but not culturally. As someone born and raised in Puerto Rico, it annoys me to no end how a lot of NY natives from Puerto Rican descent claim the culture, but know nothing about it. I have more respect for people who have no relation to the island, but put the time and effort to learn the culture and show appreciation; than the people that use their origin for clout and to attend a parade once a year.
And it annoys everyone else to no end how much Puerto Ricans talk about being Puerto Rican and Puerto Rican pride when everyone in America thinks it’s basically just a smaller version of Mexico😂

That's what I meant by non-natives being loud about "Puerto Rican pride", compared to people who have actually lived on the island, thus don't feel the need to accentuate their cultural link.
This is such a great story of how to be a success. Good dude who was smart enough to know to check his ego and do what needs to be done to get a foot in the door and trusted the process that would lead to his skills and smarts to take him the rest of the way.. respect!

23:17... I literally ended up fist fighting a recruiter, after I found out they were lying to me over some serious shit... the fight was broke up pretty quickly though... but I saw him a few years later, @ a bar, & we REALLY went @ it.

I had a similar experience with the Army recruiters when I was a senior in high school. I talked to the guy when he came into our school and made an appointment to meet with him at his office. His tone completely changed when I was there, he became super pushy. When I told him that I had to think about my options he told me that I don't have any other options, the Army was my only option. I said that I was looking at some colleges and he said that was a waste of time because the Army is the only thing that would give a future. When I got up to leave he called out to the other recruiter in the office and said, "This kid wants to think about his options." That guy beat me to the door and he stood in front of it and he started in on me. Then the first guy gets there and now I have 2 big guys standing in front of the door telling me that I have to sign up, I'm throwing my life away if I don't and all this other crap. I was so put off by that experience I wanted nothing to do with the military after that. That recruiter called me multiple times a week for months after that.
Dude, Pharrell is a REAL ONE for that!!! I wasn’t a Really Big Fan before this, I was just really a Small fan of his, But since hearing This Pharrell is the Shit Now and I will continue to say this.
