I remeber the race with Miller-Ouibo and how Americans chastised her and ridiculed her for diving. Oh how short their memories are cuz they obviously forgot that at the olympic 4 years prior the USA athlete in the men's 400 finals snatched his medal by diving in front of the bahamian. As long as the USA doe sit,; its fine but when we do it; its a crime.... stupse
It always looked more like SM-U tripped than dived. That last step before the line. I never thought about it until I read that Felix was critical of the way SM-U won the race. Nobody trips intentionally and you can't stop forward momentum.
For anyone wondering: Diving for the line isn't advantageous or succesfull. The energy and movement needed to make a dive are also the energy you couldve used for another step; a step that is much faster than the dive. Diving is also of course a major risk of injury. Why do people do it? Sheer exhaustion of course, if you literally cannot take another step than just falling forward is your only option and because youre at speed falling forward becomes some sort of dive. But also because a lot of athlete's are not aware of the fact that diving literally has no advantage whatsoever and desperately try something.
wrong. if there was no advantage, people would not need to "lean in" for the finish, because the finish isn't about measuring your center of mass or the last point of your body, but specifically your chest crossing the line. A person that standing straight has their chest directly above their center of mass. By leaning forward you get possibly 10-15cm advantage, but diving forward, you can gain an extra 30-40cm advantage. And when you look at the analysis photo finish 3:13, and look at where their center of masses are, they look like a tie. But because they count the first part of their chest, the Miller won.

This wasn't a fluke for Shanunae since she won this again for the 2020 olympics. Clearly a superior runner lol
No one is superior to Allyson Felix relax.
Allyson has only won one individual gold lmfao

Wins a win no matter how you get it.

I’m going to be honest. I agree with you but at the same time diving for the line looks more like a last second Hail Mary.

Then why did miller win
Stop it already.
Miller-Uibo cheated her way into a "dubious victory" after diving. You want to tell me that wasn't "advantageous" to her?

Très belle course ❤
Est-ce que ça pourrait être considéré comme une tentative de détourner les règles ?
They ought to be disqualified. It's not a swimming competition.
@@Seren_ity22they got to the finish line first, that's what it's about
ça ne contourne pas les règles mais c'est clairement pas cool pour les autres! pas illégal mais on frole le deguelasse!
They will do hard work every year but in the game they will use to short Mathod to touch the line

Diving is Not Running ! It Should Not Be Allowed !
This should be banned. Races are supposed to reward best runners not best divers. There is another sport for that!
Isn't illegal?

She is silver. Diving and torso should not count. It’s so stupid.
That shouldn't count. Both feet need to cross the finish line (you run on your feet not your hands). This wins are credible to me.

Personally, I don't like when athletes dive at the line. I get that it's perfectly legal, but I would rather it not be.

What about the most famous dive? Dave Wottle, 800m final, Munich 1972.
