    If you watch my stuff, you know that I'm not a huge fan of lead reselling middleman companies like HomeAdvisor and Angie's List. In my opinion they only make money because they monopolize the front page of Google. My company's mission is to get enough contractors on the front page of Google that these lead reselling middleman companies go away.
    Watch this video a couple times if you need to. Understanding this stuff is huge for businesses, especially those that are spending tons of money buying leads!

    The silicon valley middle-men who do nothing except get in between the contractor and the customer, raising prices for actual working Americans. Glad you're raising awareness about this, one day we'll have to boycott Angi, Home Advisor, etc. if we want prices to come back down.

Glad you are teaching folks this. what is your experience with Facebook and marketing through their?

    As a low voltage contractor of 15 years. I can attest that everything thing Chuck said in this video is 100% accurate. I have struggled with Yelp, Home Advisor, Angie's List, Thumbtack etc., only for the leads to get worse and the prices to go up every year.

    • @chuckthecontractor
      @chuckthecontractor  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As the market matures, prices go up and marketing methods stop working as well. It's a natural thing. That's why I think it's best to focus on the basic things that will always work before moving into more speculative or pricey options.

    Totally agree with you, Chuck! Why buy leads if you can build your own right? It might take some manual work, but the important is that you're building quality over quantity. Google is a great platform to find prospects. You can search for companies and then look for the decision-makers and offer them services. In case Google doesn't provide their info, there are third-party search tools to find their contact information.

    brother, im an up and coming IT / security camera company in a big city in texas. I do access control, cameras, IT, servers, WIFI, printers, data wiring, phone systems (analog and voip), any connected devices, speakers (in wall, all the others) A/V, Tv mounting, custom setups, etc.....commercially (i can do residential too) But im kind of comprehensive. But your video inspired me, i need my crappy website I built revamped and to look cool on a phone, and how much it would cost to get my name up there, if even for a little while. were trying to break away and become more independant, and so far the only solutions i could cook up were of course word of mouth (which is good because we do good work, thus good reputation) but its not enough i see in the long run to keep us going forever. I value that you made this video because it inspired me to pull this trigger ...and hopefully take my little business....somewhere better.
    dont judge me for zero punctuation or grammer on youtube either ;)

    Thanks for those tips. I can speak to the truth of what you said personally as I have implemented all of your tips in my own business. I started my woodworking business in 2016 and started with lead sites like thumbtack and Porch only. They were great back at that time for the first couple of years that I used them until I created my own website and built up my Google reviews . Like you said, that's the best thing you can do as a business owner. Supplementing with lead sites is good for a time to get you off the ground, etc, but build up your business in other ways that will sustain you. Also, one thing that's helped me a lot is getting on vendor lists in certain neighborhoods, so when homeowners want recommendations, they see you on that list.

Many would scedule dryer vent cleanings because they wanted something else and couldnt figure out how to submit the form properly. When i tried to cancel they told me that i owe them over $1000 for canceling. Lets just say that i went to my bank and took back about $1400 and now im in collections.

People are using the internet and my Dad being 60 years old now, has trouble adapting. This is EXACTLY the type of advice im looking for. I want to help get my parents on their feet again and potentially let them retire completely... Jonathan, my brother has been getting all of our leads from thumbtack. The issue with that is the amount of money he spends a month on these leads that more often then not go nowhere. Now we do great work and have nothing but 5 star reviews on thumbtack. Its been an entire year now that we have been in business and looking back on our year all of our best jobs that we made the best money on were definitely not the direct thumbtack people. This is because my little brother being new to the world of conducting business felt the need to have to be the lowest bid in order to get it. Now the crazy thing is. We have a website but have not generated a single customer from it... Why? The answer is SEO. Stands for search engine optimisation. Unless someone. So do yourself a favor and watch a few videos on what exactly that is. Im guessing by now you probably already have. And so next thing to do is either dedicate a shit load of time to learning how to perfect those skills which to be honest could be very time consuming. So you pay someone else to do it right? I spent a couple weeks trying to find the right company to give my money too and after sitting through a bunch of sales calls i finally went with a company by the name of town square. They will help you to build the website as well as walk you through how and why they do it the way they do for the best SEO. To be honest with you they do a great job at helping you to understand but so do a lot of companies. But the main reason i went with them was simply because their monthly rate was the most affordable. 300 a month. And they have 30 thousand return customers that pay that. Some even pay more because they have some extra services like facebook management and stuff. Or you can really start spending some dough and start running adds. But it all takes time 3 to 6 months before googles algarythms start recognizing your business and start getting your business listed on that first page when people type in" blank blank( service) near me". If.you decide to try them out. Definitely hit me up and i will set you up with the person that helped me. She will give you a discount and then also give me one if i give you the referral. 300 bucks a month for the rest of time is a lot of money but the ROI is totally worth it man. 30 thousand other businesses wouldnt be coming back every month if it wasnt right? 👍

      Hey Colin. Check out the Foundational Marketing System videos I did. As of now they are free to the public on my TH-cam channel. There's one about websites. If you buy a website, make sure you're hiring someone that knows what they're doing not just with web design but with marketing for your particular kind of business. You can buy a crappy website just like you can build a crappy website. Do your due diligence!

    • @lifemulder
      @lifemulder ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hire a professional marketing company to build your website. As a contractor focusing on your skillset (construction ) and not trying to do everything yourself will get you far. You make more money in your business, then you can delegate things out such as website building. Since you didn't spend the time on a website, you had more time making money with what you are best at.

    • @chuckthecontractor
      @chuckthecontractor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lifemulder key here is “marketing company” marketers are supposed to get leads that convert into sales. That function should be measured closely no matter who is doing the job.
      There are many web designers who are not marketers. Hiring them to produce a website when you really need customers can be a frustrating experience for everyone involved.

    • @robatkinson4842
      @robatkinson4842 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chuck's advice is spot on. While it's tempting to aim for the most visually stunning website, it's essential to prioritize marketing principles in its design. Studies show that most visitors first glance at the top left corner of a site (where the logo usually is) and then scan towards the top right. If there's no clear call to action there, such as a "call" or "request a quote" button, you could be losing potential customers.

    Great content Chuck! It's nice to see someone shedding light on how all this works.
    Do Lead gen companies like Home Advisor or Angi Leads give you any level of guarantee that you'll get some leads that will turn into customers? Or is it the case that they are guaranteed payment from you yet you might get nothing from it?

    • @chuckthecontractor
      @chuckthecontractor  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They don't make any guarantee that you will make sales. How could they? What if you are terrible at sales and can't sell a cup of water to a person dying of thirst? They wouldn't take that risk. That's why they charge per lead and not per sale. This also opens the door to sell you leads that could never turn into a sale even if you're the best salesperson on the planet.... It's a double-edged sword!

    You are absouletly right, lead generation is just a huge rip-off, hiring one is more like giving aways the little profits. I own a steel detailing company here in the USA and have team in India too, with winter coming in what are the ways you suggest we can use to get new clients, We have worked on some decent size projects. Few of them are the Hanger for the B21, Bde Maka Ska Refrectory (MN), Extension for the MN airport and quite a few more.

    Working for cheap at expense of your body isn't very considerate. People either study to invest with time, or work hard and invest time AND health. The alternative is for you to buy the tools, get on the Internet and try your best to do it right the first time. For example, Ive been working with a strained ligament, takes time to heal when you have to continue to work

    • @chuckthecontractor
      @chuckthecontractor  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ahh man that's rough. I hope you recover quickly. Taking care of your body goes a long ways with food, exerfcise, stretching, and sleep. Avoiding alchohol and drugs too... Even if you do all those things right, work can take its toll. Use your brain... Get smarter... Over time you can hire the young guys to do what you used to do and slowly teach them so the cycle can continue.

    why would a random website make such a difference? A craigslist ad doesn't show up on google like a website does? What company do you use for your website? I paused my google ads because I wasted hundreds of dollars and Google did not get me one paying customer.

    • @chuckthecontractor

      Google shows the best search results. If you want Google to show you, you have to be the best search result. If you are in an area with weak competition, this is easy. If you're in a tough area like LA or Houston, it's very difficult because there are a lot of companies who have invested a lot of money in their websites and marketing.
      It's easy to spend money with Google and get nothing. If it was that easy, everyone would do it and it wouldn't work anymore. It's a competition my man.
