I hope Jesse and Cody return sometime in a future season as I really enjoyed them and Jesse has a super inspirational story. Pretty good cast this time.
I felt so bad for him when he lost the fire making challenge. You could FEEL his extreme pain. He was really destroyed and upset by that, but it's understandable since he put everything into winning for him and his family.
100% agree with you. Jesse and Cody were definitely my favorite players this season, and both of their eliminations almost made me cry. I love both of them and hope they can return for future seasons like you said.
Take out Jesse at the fire challenge made it possible especially after Gab stated in front of the jury that he wanted to do the fire challenge. And I'm so glad he won it because he had said before in testimonials that he wanted to give the money away to charity. A class act all the way around.
Jury are annoyed by Cass and Owen. The fact that both of them were delusional playing a good game, however, they eventually riding through Cody-Jesse that running the game until final 6. I am happy Gabler win but i really wanted to Jesse win it because it is not easy to survive and running the game without be a superior challenge winner. All coat tail ride winner must bring goat to the end, but Jesse bring all challenge beast.
Yeah, but I take issue with a statement made during final - forgot who said it, but they claimed that the veterans were 'protecting us all'. Protecting us from what? The Iraqis storming our borders? The Afghanis swimming ashore in the dead of night, strapped with bombs? Protecting the interests of the rich and powerful. The military is for sale and the highest bidder is the one with the longest drill bit.
Jesse’s strategy of taking out Cody then playing his idol at F5 always meant he would need to win F4 immunity (highly unlikely) or make fire to win. So Jesse bet his whole game on fire and lost. So in my eyes he doesn’t deserve to win
@@someguy6568 Well he was defeated at the fire making so of course he doesn't deserve to win. But I admire the ballsy way he played knowing it would put a big ass target on his back. He didn't do like some of the others and try to avoid a mistake. He played aggressively. He played to win and didn't play "not to lose". You may not respect that but just know you are in a considerable and small minority. And that's okay too. That's why they're called....."opinions."
Congrats to Gabler for winning the game, but what he just did at the reunion shows how great a human being he is. He’s donating the entire $1 Million to help our veterans.
Same, I thought he played a really good game, and was the deserving winner. Obviously if Jesse made it then I think Jesse should win, but as played I liked how it played out.
Totally deserved. Yes Jesse was the fan favorite and yes Jesse made bold moves. But putting a target on your back is a risky strategy that doesn’t always pay off. Jesse gambled his whole game on fire and lost. I don’t know why people all say “Jesse deserved to win” when Gabler ultimately played a better game of survivor. It’s not a popularity contest.
@@tj.8924 Yeah. But it's just seems kinda weird to give congrats to the person that got 1 vote, instead of the person that was 1 vote away from a perfect game
Useless fun fact: Gabler is one of only four winners to not immediately hug or immediately be hugged by at least one of the runner-ups. Boston Rob just waves and says Thank You before running off stage to Amber and his kids Tony couldn't hug Natalie or Michele for obvious reasons Xander and Mike just stayed sitting down clapping for Erika after she won Gabler turned and thanked the jury who ran up to congratulate him Sophie hugged Jim first but Albert was already trying to hug her from behind at the same time. Rob kisses Amber while hugging her in All Stars. Vecepia fell off her chair but Neleh hugs her while she's on the ground
Honestly, I really enjoyed this outcome. I started to lose interest after Jesse got out and thought it was just going to be a predictable win for Cassidy. But to see Gabler pull from behind and win was a fun final twist to the season. Questionable? Yes. Entertaining? Absolutely!
He actually deserved it, but I wasn't sure if the rest of them were able to see his game or if he would be able to explain it well enough. He gave a great speech though and was able to convince them he was the rightful winner. I actually would have been disappointed if Cassidy or Owen won. I wanted Jesse to win, but survivor is a very hard game and it wasn't to be unfortunately.
What did Cassidy do the entire season other than win immunity? Gabler got Ellie out and got Jesse, Cody and Sami to trust him enough to form alliances with him
Honestly, once the shock wears off, I think people are going to come around on Gabler's win as a social masterclass in playing the middle. It's textbook. It might not be flashy, but it didn't need to be. Gabler made strong bonds with every single member of the jury, he knew *exactly* what type of game he was playing and he owned it. He didn't put himself down the way Owen kept doing (if you're not hyping yourself up, why would you expect the jury to?) and didn't misinterpret his own game the way Cassidy did (Cassidy really didn't play too different a game from Gabler on paper, but she misread what she thought the jury wanted and I think she failed to realize that in openly denying Owen the chance to go to fire against Jesse and putting it in Gabler's hands, she showed she had no idea how Gabler was perceived and that made her the final victim of the Alligabler). Palm fronds and Elie bomb aside, I don't think Gabler played terribly erratically. His game is very reminiscent of Sandra's Pearl Islands win (something he cited in his exit press), and I think as we get some distance from the season, people will come around not just to 43 as a whole, but Gabler's victory in particular. I don't think he's a bottom-tier winner at all. He didn't fall into the win by accident. He was just a goofy guy that no one took seriously . . . and he used that to his advantage. He didn't need immunities to get to the end the way Fabio and Bob did; he didn't need idols; he didn't even need to drive votes. He just planted seeds and walked away from the explosions.
This might be one of the best final tribal performances I’ve ever seen. He exposed Cassidy towards the end, and wasn’t afraid to take the spotlight. I was shocked by how well Gabler handled this tribal
I was definitely a Jesse fan and was crushed when he lost in such a brutal fashion in that fire-making challenge. That being said, go Gabler! You can tell Cass was beginning to crumble towards the end of that FT. She knew she was getting outshined and was clearly getting flustered - or, at least it was framed that way. You had to have known once the Jury called her out at the end regarding the Ryan vote, she lost right there. Should've put her Immunity up against Jesse, in my opinion.
If I got a call to be on survivor I would practice with a flint every day until I left to go play. It blows my mind that people go on survivor and have no idea how to make fire.
This whole finale was just dunking on Cassidy and why she didn’t play a great game and I’m glad Karla at F5 and the Ryan vote answer with Gabler absolutely showed she did not have any of the power she thought she had.
Gabler joins Tina, Ethan, Brian, Sandra (S7), Tom, JT, Cochran, Natalie A., Nick, and Tony (S40) to be the only winners who never received elimination votes in their winning season
Only unpredictable because no spoilers. Looking back at previous seasons, we had Samoan Natalie, Erika, HvV Sandra, Vecepia, etc. I would be able to see Gabler's win easier than them.
To be honest, I honestly prefer the method of showing the winner right then and there. Just feels more natural, and less forced. Going forward, they should keep it that way. My point of contention is how they handle the reunion. I agreed with it in 41 and 42, due to them having to for covid guidelines. But I think with 45 and beyond, they need to change it. Either go back to live reunions like in previous seasons to really capture the "where are they now", or have them return to Ponderosa, give them two days to freshen up a bit, then bring the entire cast to the island one final time to talk again.
I did not expect Gabler to win but I'm glad he did since he pleaded his case well enough to where I might have voted for him too. Granted I would have probably voted Owen but still.
@@warriorsa-cash8534 he said in an interview he was actually shocked that James didn't vote him, LMAO seeems like he was way more aware of the jury then Owen and Cassidy

@@fvckthesystem3083 No it is a social game. Gablers social game was way better then Cass. He was friends with everyone on the jury and made zero enemies. Thats how you win survivor.

Even more than 41, I feel like this season broke edgic forever. Did any edgic reader predict this?? I’ve seen many TH-camrs predict Gabler has no chance in hell. I thought he would be taken to final 3 as a goat like Laurel or Romeo
one person predicted entire finale elim order like hours before it, the rest all thought it would be cass. glad she lost after this ftc performance tho
@@freddytang2128 i thought owen did the best he could, but didn't know how to sell a game he knew he didn't do much in very effectively. i preferred his honesty over cassidy trying to boast for sure. i think she would've had a much better chance if she were similarly honest
I thought coming back and rewatching this almost a year later would change my opinion about this season. It didn’t. This is still the worst new era season, in fact I’d rather rewatch ONE WORLD than this mess ever again.
Owen showed way more strategic thought tho. He was at least self aware and knew what the correct move he needed to make was. He just didn't have the opportunity to do so. I don't know if I would say Owen was carried by anyone. He was targeted a few times. It just got to the point where others had become bigger threats. Only way you can say he got carried was when Cass took him to the end at 4 (which was to not let him build a resume because she percieved him as a threat). However by that definition Woo didn't get carried since he won immunity at final 3.
He really didn’t play like Woo. Woo was loyal to one person (Tony) while Owen couldn’t find his footing in the game because he had no loyal alliance to anyone. He was using voting blocks to get through the game and most of the time he was left out of the vote (he voted incorrectly 3 times). So that’s a bad comparison
Cassidy didnt even do anything in the season. I dont know why she acted surprised. She just hopped onto the wagon and voted with everyone else. She didnt define the season. She didnt have anything in her resume.
I`m so happy for Gabler, he wasn`t even on my radar until he started answering questions and being so open about it. If you can go through the game with-out getting 1 vote against you until the time when it matters, then you`re doing something right.
I have never been so shocked at a winner reveal. After Jesse lost the fire making challenge (which was devastating for me cause he was my winner pick from the beginning), I thought for sure that it was down between Owen or Cassidy, but GABLER WINS IT ALL. I still cannot believe it
@@1220MrCool I didn't see any major moves that he made to deserve the title (other than lead the charge to take out Elie). He did have a great final Tribal but even compared to Cassidy and Owen, it seemed like he did nothing
@Chris Lewis Survivor is not a game about big moves. It is about who can survive with a reasonable justification (i.e. their strategy) while being aware of the relationships and dynamics around themselves. How did Sandra win H vs. V? One could argue she did not make any "big moves" visually, but she did. She was candid on how her original alliance was decimated, knew her position in the game, was aware of the relationships surrounding her, and made an effort to harbor opposing relationships early on and across the merge. A big move can help you advance into the game, but it does not guarantee you a win if you are at the final tribal. Carolynn from Worlds Apart made a big move by trusting Mike and playing her idol at F6, negating most of the votes meant to eliminate her. However, her gameplay was not consistent as she was not generally aware of her surroundings and did not take charge to initiate her idol play. Juries are meant to comprehend a player's plea and determine if it is consistent with how they played the game.
@@1220MrCool I'm not saying Gabler's win isn't justified (I realized the way I worded my comment made it sound like that it isn't so that's my mistake). However, I still found it shocking after all that happened
Why are the majority of people commenting so surprised by this? He's easily the best of the 3. Literally was the smartest player by far. Jesse made the biggest moves but fell short.
I want to see them go back to the Survivor reunions where everyone is there. I want to hear everyone's comments! Not just the ones on the jury. U don't get the same affect speaking for someone else! Yea, he didn't need the money so should he had won?
I would say most winners don't 'need' the money and probably spend it on unnecessary things. It's his money so if he'd rather give it away than buy a sports car, i respect that.
How? Gabler played a great game. His social skills were way beyond Cass. He was in multiple alliances and never pissed anyone off when they left. His name was never uttered during a tribal. The guy kill the social aspect of this game.
Why are people so upset with this win? I mean I get it, but really, it’s just a game. All of them played very well, and you can’t be upset about who won and who lost, you have to accept it and respect it.
lol Cody said on an interview (showbiz cheat sheet) that Gabler wasn't a threat "snoozed around all day", "not really much strategy there" and Cass was a threat. Also coming out from the f5 exit interviews that Gabler's FTC was actually bad but they edited it with only the good parts. Cassidy's game is probably a bit better but voting for who you like better is valid though. I'm fine with the winner.
i dont think anyone deserves a comeback other than cassidy, james, owen, and maybe elie, the others have the potential to ruin another season with the same bitterness
Really wanna hear the jury on their thoughts going in. Was gabler the front runner going in? Seems Jesse and Karla were a tad bitter towards Cass tbh. Considering the respect they had, I could see them having a lot of influence on the outcome. Gabler was likable and he did sell his strategic game well. Personally, I felt Cass played the better strategic game but clearly her relationships with the jury were lacking.
During the aftershow it's kinda quiet and not in your face but several jurors including Sami Karla and Ryan said that gabler swayed them with his speech
I think gabler convinced them that there was a method to the madness not just a crazy old guy. The irony of Cass bringing Gabler as a sure win in her mind, just to lose to him Lmao
After Karla left I stopped caring. This just made everything sweeter. I just didn’t want Cassidy to win! She should’ve been out before Lindsay got paranoid
@@lafingscarecrow Yeah, winning immunities, but he literally said in his ftc speech that he did nothing, so the jury believed him and that is why no one voted for him

@@viking956 wait I admire and respect the way Jesse played. He played a great game.
Gabler just “deserved” to win more since his game was better.
Congrats to Gabler for winning the game, but what he just did at the reunion shows how great a human being he is. He’s donating the entire $1 Million to help our veterans.

Not really. I knew he was going to win
Except from Heartichoke.
Same, I thought he played a really good game, and was the deserving winner. Obviously if Jesse made it then I think Jesse should win, but as played I liked how it played out.
He was my winner pick pre season
Totally deserved. Yes Jesse was the fan favorite and yes Jesse made bold moves. But putting a target on your back is a risky strategy that doesn’t always pay off. Jesse gambled his whole game on fire and lost. I don’t know why people all say “Jesse deserved to win” when Gabler ultimately played a better game of survivor. It’s not a popularity contest.
Congrats to Cassidy for runner up! she played great, and she was my pick. I hope she returns!

Useless fun fact: Gabler is one of only four winners to not immediately hug or immediately be hugged by at least one of the runner-ups.
Boston Rob just waves and says Thank You before running off stage to Amber and his kids
Tony couldn't hug Natalie or Michele for obvious reasons
Xander and Mike just stayed sitting down clapping for Erika after she won
Gabler turned and thanked the jury who ran up to congratulate him
Sophie hugged Jim first but Albert was already trying to hug her from behind at the same time.
Gabler 100% deserved it. If you can’t see why his game was smart, you probably aren’t.
What did Cassidy do the entire season other than win immunity? Gabler got Ellie out and got Jesse, Cody and Sami to trust him enough to form alliances with him
use me as the “i was not expecting that at all” button

I think she was schock that Gabler Won
She was so arrogant no wonder the jury didn't vote for her lol
She was so delusional this whole episode
Reminded me a bit of Xander from 41
To be honest, I honestly prefer the method of showing the winner right then and there.

I find it funny Owen said he didn’t want to play the game like Woo
But ended up getting carried to the end.
Agreed
Am I the only one to think that Gabler is the new era Coach?
I`m so happy for Gabler, he wasn`t even on my radar until he started answering questions and being so open about it. If you can go through the game with-out getting 1 vote against you until the time when it matters, then you`re doing something right.
I have never been so shocked at a winner reveal. After Jesse lost the fire making challenge (which was devastating for me cause he was my winner pick from the beginning), I thought for sure that it was down between Owen or Cassidy, but GABLER WINS IT ALL. I still cannot believe it
Why?
