I began with photography in 1971 and was always taught to use a lens hood. It always surprises me that so few today use such a basic piece of equipment.
I still use them on all my lenses. Sometimes I get them of when there is much wind and I'm shooting from a tripod but those situations are rare. I much rather use a lens hood then a uv filter these days if you at them for a protective reason. But they help a lot with flair also so I totaly agree with you. Thanks for watching the video. Grt guido
Regarding forgetting to turn self timers, etc. off... something I used to do a lot too! Another photographer I watched (I don't remember who) had this tip... get used to using the custom settings and have one of them set to fast moving objects, like birds in flight. Make this your walk around setting and train yourself to switch to it all the time, when moving from one composition area to another. It's taken me some time to learn to do this too, but it's really handy!
I've programmed c1 to a custom bird photography mode indeed. So if I see anything fast, I quickly turn the switch, but like you say, it takes some persistence to do it over and over again. But thanks for the tip. I appreciate it 🙂 grt guido
Get some fast clips for the neck strap, there's a peak design strap that can be quickly detached - or use their capture plate and ditch the strap completely. I think it's pretty much been established that there's no point switching ibis off when using a tripod these days.
After I released this video I actualy bought that peak design neck strap and the thing for on my camera bag. And I should have done that much earlier! I got lots of comments that recommended it and you're all right here. Excellent piece of equipment! Thnx for wayching. Grt guido
The self timer has tricked me many times too. We have a backup on our computers for the import then I can format the cards when I put them back in the camera, I have a spot on the banister where I put the cards after the upload then I can pick it up on the way downstairs. My backpack is pretty heavy too, it serves me well as a sandbag and as a bit of a hide. A few times I had limited gear and missed a couple keepers. The focus clutch..... I always try to remember to check it so I don't miss a shot, same with the stabilizer switch on the M.300, it can get bumped. Thanks... Mike
It's frustrating isn't it when you miss shots because you forget to put back a setting. I always have it with the high res mode... I actusly never remove the card from the camera. I always extract them with he usbc cable. Imagine the weight of that backpack when shooting FF! Then you deffinitly can't take everything and choices are to be made I guess. That's the beauty of the system we use 🙂 thanks for watching and your support this year. Wish you all the best for next year! Grt guido
Whaha strange, right... we all know that we can solve those things very easily but still we keep doing it... thanks for watching and your support this year! I wish you all the best for 2024! Grt guido
Grt guido
Very good pieces of advice Guido, now of course, the " heavy lifting " part is to follow them consistently. Thanks for the videos you shared this year, and wishing you a Happy New Year to you and your loved ones !
Thanks for your support this year and your comment. I wish you all the best for 2024 and hopefully you will enjoy the videos from next year just as much 🙂 grt guido
Yeah, it is so simple to do it, but somehow, when I'm in the field, I just forget about it myself. And when I look in lightroom, I always feel so stupid haha thanks for watching the video. I appreciate your comment. Wish you all the best for 2024! Grt guido
I know but if you shoot multiple brackets straight after each other in a sort of burst rate then light room seems to struggle with it. Also with panoramas it sometimes is a problem if you didn't use approximately the same time between the shots. But these are just minor issues that only happen once in a while :-) Thanks for the comment grt guido
Taking photos when people are around is not a problem. Taking photos of people like for example, street photography, is already getting a bit awkward. Talking to the video camera with other people then my own company around is just not possible. I'm getting a little better at it, but it still is terrible 😅 what subjects do you photograph l? thanks for watching grt guido
@GuidoVanDeWater I mostly stick to landscape and nature photos, I have done some in crowds but it makes me very uncomfortable, lol I don't like people looking at me I guess. I do enjoy your videos
@janandjim4442 haha I have exactly the same. I don't want to be in the spotlights. Someone once commented that I should buy a t shirt with I hate people on it 😅 I don't hate people but just like you I hate the attention when I'm doing my own thing. During workshops it's not an issue so it is strange haha. Thanks for the compliment! Where are you from?
Just found your channel. Great tips with finding a routine and being happy with getting out taking photos. B-roll to me seems a waste of time when filming yourself walking around instead of getting your message across (just my thought).
Thanks for watching the video. I do agree with you that b-roll isn't essential, but a little is always nice to make them little movies and more pleasant to watch. But I'm happy to see that you don't mind when I forget it, haha. Hope you will have a great 2024 in front of you, and hopefully, I will see you back on the channel again 😀 grt guido
Hello Guido Oh yes all those bad habits and in some I found my self :-). We can join together to make it better. In those conditions there is no image to find, only for documentary. Grt Ernesto
I've shot images before in these conditions but this was a realy tuff day. I guess I choose the wrong location for the weather. But happy to see I'm not the only one out there with bad habits haha. Thanks for you're support this year and all the best for 2024! Grt guido
Grt guido
Nice video with your honest bad habits. I recognize a lot of them. Regarding a camera strap, have you considered a system where you can easily and quickly detach the strap from the camera during a shoot and attach it again afterwards? I have one and since that, plus growing the habit to use it, I don’t have that problem of camera shake during wind anymore.
Thanks Wim, i was just typing to someone else that responded that i saw someone with the camera attached to the back pack and it looked really easy. So who knows that is going to be an option. Thanks for watching and all your support this year. I wish you all the best for 2024! Grt guido
