Yes Ulf - they went a bit wrong after this epic lp. I saw them live about 6/7 years ago and they only played the old stuff and, of course, it was great.
From what I've heard, this was originally intended to be OMD's last song. They got together at the last day of the recording of Architecture and Morality and wrote and recorded it, supposedly to never be in a recording studio together ever again. They thought they'd done everything they wanted to do with music at that point, and that it wasn't commercially enough, so they were going to give up. But then A&M blew up, and the rest is history
Simply a perfect song -- sublime in its melancholy and beauty -- off of a near-perfect album, and one of my favorite synth pop albums (and bands) of all-time. This music is timeless.
i never really interpreted this song like this, i've always thought of a lonely highway, driving off into the sunset. But everyone has a different vision of this song... I think you're absolutely right about this song being underrated, this is the most beautiful OMD song ever, it should of been on their 'best of' cd in 1988, but it wasn't.
For me this raises an image of a slow and winding boat trip in thick thick fog. . . . . one from which I never want to come back. Thank you OMD for the great music.
Funny how these old songs turn up in movies or TV shows and the youngsters hear them for the 1st time and think they are new. Me I'm an old fucker so I never heard of RED OAKS, is it any good. I got this record in 1983 still have it glad young kids can hear it now,
I had a tremendous flash-back seeing this video, thank you for uploading. Melancholy of the early eighties ... the ending of the modernist era, a start of postmodernity. Well done OMD, yo caputered this well in lyrics, tune and vids. Cute boys they were, too.
@@Nipuks1234 'Of all the things we've made' and also 'Romance of the Telescope' were both recorded for 'Architecture and Morality' but did not make it onto the album and were initially included as B-sides to the 'Joan of Arc' singles. OMD were struggling to write enough songs for 'Dazzle Ships' and decided they were strong enough to be used again as album tracks.
I was 18 years old, listen to this band while reminiscing earlier times in life, all while staring at the stars in the middle of the desert while serving in Desert Storm! Had to fantasize something else besides reality!
walked into a record store and bought this cassette on a whim. around 83-84.I was maybe 13 myself. I had never heard anything like it in my life and it shaped my musical taste from then on. Its almost industrial before industrial
Most true artist never get the recognition for being innovative and creating beauty so original that it can confuse a mass audience upon its release. DAZZLE SHIPS in my opinion is perhaps one of the most important recordings of the 20th century. And this song alone sheds some light of the personal openness an artist must reveal and express to unleash beauty. thank you for making and posting this vid !!!!
YESSS!!! I have considered Dazzle Ships a masterpiece for over 25 years!! I just knew it would eventually break out and take it's rightful place as one of the best of the best of all time.
So proud to be the 1000th person to love this song. This is in my top 5 - up there with Electricity, Messages and Souvenir; not forgetting Red Frame, White Light!
Love the video, Vinyl. The gritty pixilation is like seeing the world as one goes under anaesthesia, and consciousness disintegrates while one is still conscious of consciousness--or seeing this vale of tears through a veil of tears.
ho appena scoperto questa canzone meravigliosa. Sto assaporando questo momento, con la delicata tristezza che questa musica porta con sé. Ho i brividi.
Love it. I am listening to dazzle ships as I type. Radio waves alive....from the transmitter, to the receiver! Silent running....beautiful synthesizer mastery x
I couldn't agree more. Dazzle Ships was brilliant--and yes, an IMPORTANT work. Hugely, but invisibly influential on all music that came after it. Radiohead, anyone?
this track haunts me. this -above all others - was the background music to the sad split with g/friend. strange how after all these years it triggers memories sad and happy at the same time. a well-put together vid. thanks and cheers.
This song, to me, is about transformation into change. Taking into account how our mindsets change year from year and then one day we say it always worked before... but not today.
How can I express this feeling! Each beat makes me feel apart from this world...Romantic, dramatic, hypnotic but also fantastic... Thanks OMD... Please come back soon:Liverpool 20th June & your new album: ????
@CruiserLeo2007 How much I agree with you @CruiserLeo2007-you are so right in your views! Of All The Things We've Made is on OMD's 1983 album Dazzle Ships. I played it recently and thought how wonderful their music is-and as you say, so much better than today's so called 'music'!
it is a song such as this by omd which makes music sound as good as it is by one of the groups who gave all they had to make records people always liked listening to.
One of the most haunting and melancholy songs of all time. Absolute perfection in it's simplicity. Timeless, ageless gold.
Been my favourite band since 1980... love this song.
Fantastic song that I always think represent the end of the OMD era that I really love (the four first albums)
Yes Ulf - they went a bit wrong after this epic lp. I saw them live about 6/7 years ago and they only played the old stuff and, of course, it was great.
@@andrewwhitehead6764 damn, they had an amazing discography. i love all of their albums equally 😊

The essence of Architecture and Morality.
It's from Dazzle Ships.

incredible film, thanks for the post!
This song made me cry as a child! It moved me, so poignant x
Heard them play this live three nights ago -- still amazing.
Thank you vinylmannen for this beautiful video.
Nothing short of what this gorgeous music deserves.

The greatest synthpop band of all time. Sorry New Order and Pet Shop Boys (though I also love both).
this hits all the right spots.
amazing song!

Marvelous video, it's dreamy, introspective and romantic! Really has been an amazing journey within the soul of the song!

Preciosos vídeo para una preciosa canción

A fantastic timeless masterpiece !
This reminds me of daydreaming as a child. I loved OMD ...always sent me into a trance and made me want to be a saint like Joan Of Arc x
Did it work? :)
YESSS!!!
I have considered Dazzle Ships a masterpiece for over 25 years!!
I just knew it would eventually break out and take it's rightful place as one of the best of the best of all time.
Dazzle Ships is OMD's best album by far.
So proud to be the 1000th person to love this song. This is in my top 5 - up there with Electricity, Messages and Souvenir; not forgetting Red Frame, White Light!
love OMD
The 4 who disliked this OBVIOUSLY have no taste in BEAUTIFUL music OR a VERY well made video.
Love the video, Vinyl. The gritty pixilation is like seeing the world as one goes under anaesthesia, and consciousness disintegrates while one is still conscious of consciousness--or seeing this vale of tears through a veil of tears.
Finished with listening to "Architecture and Morality" and "Dazzle Ships"? Now go to Depesche Mode: "Construction Time Again".
Trains are so melancholic.
+Sofia M so always it is attractive
Fabulous song,

The longing for love is what keeps us going
Oh man.......i miss these days....

The sublimation of grace.

Brilliant comment. I have long wondered if an album like "Ok Computer" would have ever been born if "Dazzle Ships" had not existed before it :-)
I love this video. Like 1981 all over again!
Wonderful! Good work, from you and the record. I enjoyed it.
einer der geilsten songs von ihrem vielleicht geilsten album
Maybe my favorite OMD song. Takes me back to a great place in my memory.
love them xxx

One of the rare and best songs from OMD !
Greate song especially in today's day...............
Mój jeden z ulubionych :-)
Brilliant - sobering , yet loved it from the first moment I heard it . Yes in part appeared the end of era .. yet not now .
This song, to me, is about transformation into change. Taking into account how our mindsets change year from year and then one day we say it always worked before... but not today.
I despise the shit they call music today, this is on the other hand, is awesome
amazing :)
This track is utterly gorgeous track. too bad it's not a longer one.
:)
Brilliant!
How can I express this feeling! Each beat makes me feel apart from this world...Romantic, dramatic, hypnotic but also fantastic... Thanks OMD... Please come back soon:Liverpool 20th June & your new album: ????
This music is perfect for night ridin' with the windows down ....just chillin'.......
magnifique chanson !!!
They had seven Top 10 hits here in the UK all spending 10-15 weeks in the charts.
Spectacular video, Dude!
got the album in 1983 lovely
I like the video very much.Fits well to the music:)
OK so it's July 2022 & I'm still listening to this classic track - has music that stirs the soul gone downhill since the 70s/80s?

Anyone still listening to during COVID19 ❓⁉️⁉️
Great job!
Wonderful song
So true.
Nice Video, Great Sound!
This song is great and was just a B-side of the Maid of Orleans single. Hopefully they haven't forgotten it while recording Dazzle Ships
@CruiserLeo2007 How much I agree with you @CruiserLeo2007-you are so right in your views!

linda e nostalgica
いい曲だな。。 聴くの当時以来だ。
This song was also an added bonus on the remastered version of Architecture & Morality. Great song.
I love this song, the instrumental part remins me of something more modern - perhaps a pre-Final Straw Snow Patrol track?
Early OMD must have influenced Arcade Fire in some way for sure!
Or My Dog! What a song!
indeed!
至福の時間
so true
