The combine concept towards the end of the video is a gold nugget of information. I've played tournaments and strategized on how to play holes many times. I usually try to figure out what clubs I feel like I'm going to hit into greens. Obviously nothing is perfect, but at least having a plan. To set up a combine early in the week and work on those particular yardages and then adding in variable pin locations is just gold. You can literally practice on the course without going on the course. I would always practice tee shot shapes for any specific hole I had in mind and generally the clubs I thought I would be hitting. All without a launch monitor just using my eyes. To get real feedback on the actual yardages is brilliant. I mean you could spend an hour and hit 90 shots with that combine setup and you just played 5 rounds worth of approach shots. That's brilliant.

3:49 One important thing to note about this is that this rule of thumb only applies to standard mid handicapper or players irons. If you are playing a game improvement heavy cavity back, they will have juiced lofts and the numbers on the club won't matter as much to the relationship with spin. Not all 7 irons are created equal. Mine for example, is 30°. Most are around 34.
A 30° iron will not, nor should it, spin the same amount as a 34°.

The caveat is that typically a driving range does not have te same golf balls as you are going to play with.
