    Amid a brooding rock & roll landscape, the Bombers motorcycle gang, led by the vicious Raven Shaddock (Willem Dafoe, John Wick), kidnap diva Ellen Aim (Diane Lane, Man of Steel). Her hope for rescue lies with unlikely heroes: soldier of fortune Tom Cody (Michael Paré, Bad Moon) and his sidekick, the two-fisted beer-guzzling McCoy (Amy Madigan, The Dark Half). Joined by Ellen's manager, Billy Fish (Rick Moranis, Ghostbusters), the trio plunges headfirst into a world of rain-splattered streets, hot cars, and deadly assassins.

    • @jetuber
      @jetuber 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Nice way to put it. There was a very specific sub-genre of what you describe -- the 1950s revived and visually updated in the 1980s -- and this movie exemplifies it. It's an aesthetic that was also present in many music videos of the time, if memory serves. The colour scheme was distinctly 1980s, but much else harkened back to the '50s.

    In retrospect, it truly was a Rock N Roll western. It even said this either on the cover or in advertisement. It was a different world all its own no specific time or place. The music was just phenomenal and stayed with me as a 10 year old kid watching it in the 80s even though I didn't understand the story. Tom Cody was an elusive distant drifter. A man willing and able to protect what he loved. Ellen Aim, an artist with a drive and a dream going places. Their love was sweet,passionate, and doomed. They had that moment and that time. Could they have come back together at the end full circle? It's uncertain and unknown as is life. So "Tonight is what it means to be young" truly is deeply understood for me now at 46 years old. And grateful for those who I have met along the way.

    I like the way the movie looks like this. It looks more raw, like it hasn't been digitally enhanced and cleaned up and everything. The contrast in a lot of scenes doesn't look fixed.

    En mi opinion, esta pelicula representa la mejor banda sonora de film alguno en los 80s, muy por encima de Footloose, Dirty Dancing, TOP GUN, entre otras, simplemente la mejor de la decada

    I remember seeing this in the theater when it first cam out and was blown away by it. William Dafoe was such a scary character. He was so young and new to Hollywood when cast in this film. And how about the beautiful Diane Lane. Also so very young in this film. A lot of hit songs came from the soundtrack as well.

    Tonight is What it Means to be Young Walter Hill's classic highly stylized 'rock and roll fable' has gained a huge cult following since its original 1984 release and with its backdrop of rain-drenched neon-lit streets is one of the most visually iconic films of the decade
