  • Chamonix is blessed with countless classic single day ski tours, and the Breche de Berard a.k.a. The Keyhole has a claim to being THE BEST short day tour in the valley. Easy access, a high starting point and stunning views throughout combine with a real sense of adventure and remoteness once over the back. And as for the keyhole itself, this hidden slit in the rock seems like an utterly implausible passage on skis, but is remarkably tame once in it.

I've done the Col de Berard many times (though not for a long time), but never realised I could have gone further up!

I’m assuming filmed before you hurt your knee? I hope you are feeling ok, swelling has gone down and it’s not as bad as you feared!

What tours would you recommend for someone with low fitness just starting out with touring?

@@vdioivmvxdstni the best place to learn is close to the piste on one of the designated skin uptracks such as at le tour or les houches. That way you can just turn around at any point and ski back down the piste
