  • @johnchambers8528
    @johnchambers8528 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thanks for your update and possible outcomes. I am a GLPI stockholder and I know that their management has been smart in constructing past leasing deals however all past deals only involved casino development. The existing casino company Bally’s has said when they bought the Tropicana that they wanted to demolish the old property and develop a new casino on the site. So I am sure they will be somewhat flexible on how much land they need for their new development. GLPI will be interested in getting the project done quickly since part of their rent is dependent on the revenue the Casino- hotel generates. So if there is any major delay on the part of the A’s I could see GLPI rescind their offer. One possible outcome could be that the new Tropicana becomes part of the new stadium like the one in Toronto. This plan could allow them to possibly get to use more than the original 9:acres in the existing agreement. So it will be interested to see where this proposal goes in the future.

    It's mind boggling that the A's have just retained a design team. They committed to nine acres without knowing that it's feasible? Also the landlord sounds like they haven't been in the loop all that much which is a bit surprising since it's their land. Certainly not a done deal by any stretch.

      Never underestimate the ability of the A’s front office to mangle a project. They couldn’t get the project across the finish line at Howard Terminal, or Peralta, or Fremont, or San Jose. Why will LV be any different?
      The LV stadium will be way over budget, will wreck any announced timelines, will be poorly communicated, and will give us all grief until 2029 or 2030.

  • @GerardPalmeri
    @GerardPalmeri ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Just a couple pieces of FYI ... the winter baseball meetings are Dec 3-6 (in Nashville as Brodie said) and I was curious about the minimum space that a ballfield might need, just for the field. Obviously this can change based on the distance to the outfield fences and the amount of foul territory but, based on a quick Google search and not saying it's definitive, but most people's opinions are that you need at least 4.5 to 5 acres just for the field itself. Not much room for the stands. Fenway Park is quoted as covering 9 acres so it may be as cramped and vertical as that, for those of you who have visited.

  • @JanLarson
    @JanLarson ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The Nevada lawmakers that voted in favor of the A's deal should be voted out for the simple reason that they relied on bogus drawings before sticking it to the taxpayers. I could tell those "drawings" were bogus, you could tell, we all could tell. I can't imagine that a multi-million dollar project would be "signed off" on such half baked information. There is no way they'll ever get a retractable roof stadium to fit on nine acres, never mind making it Las Vegas-style spectacular (whatever that entails).

    Reference the inflated cost to build the 'Sphere'. MSG initially expected the project to cost around $1.2 billion in 2019, before a series of cost escalations that started in late 2020 pushed the price to its final $2.3 billion level. MSG Sphere's exterior lit up the Las Vegas skyline for the first time on July 4.

    Two things to keep in mind have to do with what's currently on the site (the Tropicana Hotel) & the people that are going to be affected by the demolition of the hotel. There might be a movement by locals (especially those that have been in Vegas their whole lives) to keep the Tropicana Hotel alive by trying to get it on the National Register of Historic Places given its impact on the Vegas community (it was one of the first hotels built on the Strip & played a huge role in the Vegas we see today). Getting the Tropicana on this list would prevent it from being demolished. There may also be a movement by Tropicana employees to prevent its demolition because they would likely lose their jobs if the Tropicana gets demolished & Ballys doesn't reassign them to other casinos/resorts.

    Brodie, I really don't understand the direction that your channel has been moving toward with regards to the past few videos regarding Las Vegas. The way you present it, everything seems like doom and gloom and like the sky falling in Las Vegas. It's as if you are looking for even the slightest snippet of a quote and then blowing things completely out of proportion. Even when I point out that, from the beginning back in May, Dave Kaval gave a one-year timeline to refine the look of the ballpark in Vegas, you simply ignore that fact and stick to your talking points. While there is certainly a lot of emotion involved, I have a feeling that almost nobody who is watching these videos or being active in your comments section has any real control over what is happening. Personally, unless I hear something definitive from some entity that has any real sort of power (the A's, Nevada legislature, Clark County, Major League Baseball, Bally's, GLPI, any sort of court with power to stop the process, etc.), I am not going to go off the deep end over every random quote that is thrown out there.
    But I think you are still missing the big point. Your videos have become anti-Las Vegas, not pro-Oakland. Everything you talk about seems to be slanted as to why the A's plan to move to Vegas is doomed to fail. You don't seem to believe that the equity owners in the A's are doing what they believe is the smartest move for their asset. Brodie Brazil thinks he is smarter than everyone else. At the same time, you are not using your platform to explain why you think the A's moving to Howard Terminal would be so great. You have issues with how legislation was passed in Nevada, but no final deal was ever reached in Oakland, and there is no guarantee that any final deal in Oakland could ever pass confirmation votes in Oakland or Alameda County. You talk about bonds possibly being defaulted on in Clark County, but you don't talk about the resistance that infrastructure incremental funding would face by activists in Oakland. You talk about traffic at the intersection of Las Vegas Blvd & Tropicana Avenue, but you make no mention of how people are supposed to get to Howard Terminal without being confronted by violent criminals in Oakland. You talk about parking problems surrounding a ballpark on the Tropicana site, but you make no mention about where people would park at Howard Terminal or how the owners of those vehicles would be able to avoid having their cars broken into. You talk about tight timetables and having no margin for error in Vegas, but you don't talk about all of the red tape in the Bay Area and how construction delays and inflation are worse in the Bay Area.
    All you are doing is dumping on Las Vegas. But you are doing absolutely nothing to demonstrate why Howard Terminal would be a better option. The way you are presenting things, you are hoping that the Vegas plan fails. But since you are doing absolutely nothing to portray Oakland as a better option, all you are doing is opening up the possibility of the A's winding up in some area other than Las Vegas or the Bay Area. What is your purpose? Are you simply looking for video views and revenue from TH-cam? Are you trying to make yourself into some sort of Oakland folk hero who supposedly fought to the bitter end to keep the A's in town? Nothing you have been doing recently has been constructive at all. If you are as pro-Oakland as you portray yourself to be, then actually demonstrate how Howard Terminal would avoid all of the supposed problems you seem to see at the Tropicana site.

      @@ProAthl and your point 9 acres is small. But the point is that, what Brodie is trying to show is how hard and how difficult. This deal is going to be. obstacles delays cost overruns. When let's not forget about the possible memorandum by opponents, that feel very strongly that using public funds is a no no. Let's not forget the people in the desert town of Los Vegas are not really on board with this.at the end of the day Brodie is entitled to his own opinion

      @@ProAthl I am still standing by what I said. SB1 even though passed in the Nevada legislature does mean it will be challenged in Clark county. There are opponents opposed to SB1 being passed. And the people who apposed to SB1 have time to put it on the ballot in Clark county February of 2024. A memorandum

    Ok, enough. Give it a rest. The constant whining is a bad look. You've presented some good info in the past, but the ceaseless whining is wearing thin. The commissioner might have chosen his words better, but the expressed sentiment was on target - the fans in Oakland just didn't come out on a consistent basis. All this thrashing around over how great the fans are in Oakland - malarkey. Oakland has been hemorrhaging attendance for decades. Contrast this to other teams around the league who pack it in even in years when they suck - when was the last time Wrigley was empty? Just let it go and move on.

    Brodie, admire how you try to find any angle possible as a negative. One thing never to doubt when it comes to Vegas, they will get this done.
