What a great post. I don't recall seeing any Magic High School Hoops Highlights. It blows my mind that in 3 short years from this game he'll take over for an injured Kareem at center and absolutely punk Philly for his first ring
I was in 4th grade in North Jersey and went with uncle and cousin to Maryland to see the Capital Classic which would have the first McDonald’s All American basketball team playing and DC area players. Three players I was familiar with in Wayne McKoy, Albert King and Gene Banks so I was excited being a NYC area kid with family in Philly I wanted those players to shine. Gene Banks dominated of course and solidified his ranking as the best high school player in America. But I was transfixed on this tall guard with an Afro, who didn’t seem to care about scoring. Being only 10 I had no idea where East Lansing Michigan was and returned home telling my gym teacher about “Magic”. His response was “never heard of him” and “Banks dominated just like I told you”. However I decided I wanted to start watching basketball in the Midwest in 5th grade. So I watched him take him MSU to the regional final that year. Now I unbearable to my friends and teachers who got sick of me bringing of Michigan State. Of course we know what happened the next year. I feel privileged to have experienced this in my youth with innocence and no internet. The excitement that Earvin “Magic” Johnson provided was something these kids today will never realize because media and the world has changed. He changed basketball at every level…
Yep. I was around 11 when I first heard about “Magic,” and he was a sophomore in high school I think. My uncle used to travel around playing against some of the top players in Michigan. Got to see Magic play pickup games in different gyms around Lansing, Flint and Detroit. The guy had been running with PRO PLAYERS in summer leagues since he was like 12-13 years old and holding his own. By the time I saw him around the time he was 15-16, he was dominating games at PG against pro and college players. We all just knew that he was gonna be a great one.
the MHSAA has been uploading many high school games in the last few years, especially state championship games. You can look up their channel, you will find many more
Like AndreaBaixinho mentioned, the MHSAA has been uploading some amazing content over the past year or so. I have a link to this full contest at the bottom of my description and many more Michigan high school gems can be found here: th-cam.com/users/MHSAASPORTSplaylists Alternately, if full games are a bit much to ingest, I have a Michigan High School playlist with individual player highlights, including Magic Johnson, Terry Mills, Tractor Traylor, Shane Battier, Jalen Rose, Mateen Cleaves, Chris Webber, and more. It can be found here: th-cam.com/play/PLWv5aFyC0z2smMyY2p23O3sxzU4nCH4IL.html

One of the only players in history to ever win the championship in high school, college, professional, and Olympic Gold Medal
The Magic Man -- there will never be another one quite like him.
Incredible how they managed to have instant replay and multiple camera angles on a highschool game in 1977.
Magic is literally magic
A point center. Just 3 years removed from filling in at center in the NBA finals.
Amazing that he went from high school AA Center to a Hall of Fame Point Guard.
That shot at the end of regulation!! Wow. 5:50 mark. Way to put up a fight. Magic shows in OT why he was the total player already.
This is fantastic, Ryan. Thanks for sharing, mate.

Big Magic Johnson, what's he ever done?? He got aids...
When?
Dummy, he doesn't have AIDS.....
Hater
I know how he got aids, too many back door cuts 😂
I know it's high school, but Magic looked so scrawny here.
He doesn't look scrawny at all. Get your vision checked.
