Hey there. LOVE your videos (saw your last year's one too). I love the way you are informative, show the most helpful details of the process, and use excellent voiceover. As for the pond - love that! Your guppies are cool looking. I myself live in Maine, USA, and am just playing around with hummingbird feeders using the cheap solar fountains, which are fun and easy to use! I don't garden well, so I'll stick with hummingbirds and use fake plants, but I sure did enjoy watching your process!
Rice fish are so enchanting- I love that you added them to your mini pond setup as they really thrive in those types of settings! I bet the gentle trickle of water sounds so peaceful!
Greetings from the beautiful, sunny, Caribbean island of Barbados: I love, love, love, this set up. Particularly love that you used the second barrel; your choice of plants is excellent and the use of the driftwood really accentuated the entire beauty of the set up. Well done!
nice composition there is one nuance that needs to be thought about, in my opinion. when the upper mesh becomes clogged, for example with floating plants, and the pump continues to pump water, water may spill from the upper pot onto the balcony.
I really like the idea and the scape!! Just to warn you, that water lettuce in the top barrel is highly invasive! Here, in Portugal, it has turned into a really big problem has it has populated many rivers I would not recommend anyone to have this plants, even more outdoor, has a bird or some other animal may take it to the nature
The ricefish are so pretty, the variety you got at the store with the golden head & platinum body is great. They can handle year round outdoors if the water do not freeze over.
MJ i would have put a few small pebbles in the tube for the water trickle because right now its mire of a slow and steady pour, 3/4 pebbles would be held perfectly in place by the mesh 😊
Looks so pretty! I am setting up a 300 gallon pond, and I think I have finally got all the pvc and fittings I need. I'm going to use some trimmings and floating plants from my aquarium to get the plants going, plus I have tons of pothos vines I can take cuttings from for planters along the edge. Since I live in Florida, I have to worry about overflow. I haven't even got the pond set up yet, and there's already nearly a foot of water in it. I think I will drill several holes just above where I want the water line and attach screen to them so plants and fish don't wash through. I've got three tilapia that were caught in the river as fry last year, and I will move them into the pond (they are non-native, probably escaped from a fish farm during a hurricane), and I'm going to put my common pleco in there. She has outgrown the 75 gallon aquarium. I may put a few goldfish in eventually. I need to learn more about them, first.
Dude I bought a smaller but exact looking barrel pond for my balcony too! Its been 2-3 months, going stable. Just stumbled upon your video and wow its amazing. Exactly the inspiration I need to improve my own design. Cheers!
absolutely love the japanese rice fish :D glad to see you get some! i have a 50 gal outdoor stock tank that i stocked with the pink ones earlier this year and they have thrived for me it's been a great experience! so many babies and not much work on my end! i hope i can get a lot of the babies to adulthood to continue the generations haha
To warm an outside pond like this you could have an air pump indoors, so warm air bubbles inside the pond. Also if you have a sewer inspection cover in an appropriate location, stand the pond on top of that, snow never settles on mine as it is too warm. Also i wonder if you could bury the pipe for the pump like 1m deep or something and close to the house, so the water traveling through it is heated a little. I have no idea how well this will work, I have never tried it, but i have thought about setting one up with no fish and monitoring the temperature over winter, then consider white cloud minnows if it works ok.
This is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing it.The water lily leaves are especially pretty. I set up a similar one last year, a little bigger (60cm). This is making me want to experiment with a second connected one! Mine overwintered (UK) with the lilies etc and a couple of pond snails which stayed in by mistake (I brought the others indoors but actually the outdoor ones were fine), but it's a bit warmer than the NL in winter.
Really beautiful pound, I might try to make one as well in the future. Thank you for the info! Good improvement in video quality with the new sony a7iv. You should definitely invest in wide angle lense for selfies, 28mm is too close. I would recommend Sony 16-35 g master or 14mm Sony prime lens, I have both of them they are very good for vlogging. Also, try to switch to 30fps instead of 24 it would be a bit smoother
I'm liking the idea! I'm looking to add a pond/waterfeature to the garden, probably a more permanent fixture, which means I need to create more shade, because it gets hot in my backyard.
Esos peces los puedes dejar todo el año en el estanque ya que estan acostumbrados a las temperaturas bajas. En japon lo unico que hacen para protegerlos es colocar un plastico transparente encima del estanque y ya. Un saludo
Sure we won't have to worry about mosquito eggs and worms but dragonfly larvae is another concern since they get huge. I don't know if it is in Netherlands though.
I am definitely going to make a mini pond and I love rice fish too and initially wanted them for my 70l dennerle community tank but foe some reason my LFS have tried to dissuade me?! By the way MJ, I did end uo putting a nerite in with Astroid eith my reasoning being it is a much bigger tank with moving dynamic plants. I left for my rave first thing Friday morning and got back just before 23:00hrs to find that he killed the nerite! Now I understand why my LFS also tried to dissuade me from getting Astroid too and that was because he wouldn't be suitable to have with tank mates because they always want us buying more 😅 but I picked him because he had an attitude and flare! I was hoping I'd manage to put a large otocinclus in with him but it probably wouldn't be the greatest if ideas, what do you think?! Thus year's pond is amazing and i much prefer the floating plant look 😊 Thank you once again for your awesome and laid back videos. ✌️➕💙
Hi! I find it very pretty. What to do in a rainy and stormy day to protect the fish from overflow? Also, will the birds eat the fish? Thank you and have a good summer! Bonjour from Quebec city! 💁🏻♀️🇨🇦
I think if it's raining the fish will swim a bit lower ;) I'm not really worried about birds, but just in case i will cover most of the water surface with floating plants and lily pads

The end scene with you looking down at the fish shows the best part of the hobby. Just vibing with your creation and tiny friends
Exactly! Love it!
That mini pond with the red head Medaka was gorgeous!!
Got to say Mark you outdid yourself with this years pond, the scape looks insane dude!
Rice fish are so enchanting- I love that you added them to your mini pond setup as they really thrive in those types of settings! I bet the gentle trickle of water sounds so peaceful!

This is insane mate! At first I wasnt sure how the hardscape would turn out to be..the end result was stunning!
Це дуже чудово,у твоїй оселі є райський куточок,зачаровує,є чому повчитися.Хай у тебе буде все добре,чекаю нових вражень.Дякую за гарний ролик.

Rice fish and endler guppies will take out as many mosquito larvae as you can throw at them.

You smashed it! Excellent project to do for a small footprint area.

Turned out very nice MJ. Enjoy it!

I don't like ponds but you make them look good 0_0
I gotta be honest: At first I was thinking 'where is this going...?', but it turned out really nice! We should indeed trust you haha 😂
Awesome again MJ!
So beautiful! Thanks so much 😊
Looks really good, love watching this! Hopefully will create my own version soon, any tips for a pond with backyard were cats pass by?
Simply Perfect
As usually very good job man.
Great build and great video mate
Looks awesome 👌
Worden steeds beter die tubs, leuk gedaan, mooi dat je die Medaka's hebt gekocht, veel succes en hou ons op de hoogte graag van deze bakken.
Great tutorial!
Gorgeous 2nd edition! I’d love to do an outdoor pond. Maybe this will be the year!!! Very inspiring Mark.
Go for it!
Beautiful pond!
Nice mini pond 👍🏻
great Video! very good inspiration! 👍
Very nice setup. I have a question. How do you keep the pond from overflowing in a rainy day?
Thanks
Clean❤️

So Beautiful
You killed it as always!! Are you only doing 1 video a week now?
Nice
love medaka
Đẹp quá anh ơi.❤❤❤❤❤
Love it

Why did they try to dissuade you from buying rice fish?
Amazing. I would love to have access to all the materials you do.
Any update on the saltwater tank anytime soon?
Wow you are good in DIY 👍 really nice pond 😊👍👍what do you do with it in winter (freezing)?
I will take the fish out after the summer is over :)
If it rains a lot and it over flows will the fish fall out?
What about when it rains? Any idea about preventing it from the flood?
Nice :)

Is substrate necessary for a small patio pond?
How did you attach the non-water plants to the hardscape framing the barrels?
I just wedged them in there 😊
What is that blueish spikey plant up top?
Can these ponds and fish survive in winter?
👍👍👍😍😍😍
Very nice 😍
If you don’t add fish, is a filter necessary?
Definitely not
I want to but I know there is opossum and raccoon out there lol
Probably not the best idea then 😅
