***** lol. I thought it was only me. I first time was not that irritating but by the time the film ended I wanted to smash the beverage I was drinking into the side of my head. I'm sure he had that expression in the public bath house a couple times too. Great looking food though, maybe next time some music, club life, girls, sports?
I live in the U.S. and I've never been out of the country. I think this is the first place I'll go to. It seems very diverse in everything. It's so fascinating.
***** I didn;t say the people don't like foreigners (although I also wouldn't categorize the Japanese as overtly American loving people either. They tollerate us a visitors). I said it isn't foreigner friendly - as in you wont find them catering to Western Language and customs as they do in Mexico, Canada or Europe - foreigner friendly countries where it might benefit a first time traveler to be able to spend more of their time on vacation vacationing, rather than trying to find someone who is willing to speak English to you and give you directions. Japan is a great place to travel if you're experienced with traveling, know a little about the language, or have friends that can take you who do speak the language. The alternative would be to travel to Japan on a guided tour. I have traveled to Japan six times, was previously married to a Japanese citizen - speak the language like a 5 year old child and can read and write enough to recognize the characters on the local subway trains. Most of my trips were for 30 plus days at a time. I owned a business here in the US that did business with Japan explicitly.
Somebody takes the time and effort to make a wonderful, helpful and fun video to share with complete strangers ... and instead of appreciation and thanks there are those who decide to write a critique of the presenter's style! Please ignore these people Mark. Sadly they probably have had bad experiences in their lives that has drained the joy from them. Let's hope they find that inner happiness that you so clearly have! I've been to Japan once and loved it so much that I am going back for another visit and I plan to check out about 23 of your "things to do" - so a very big thank you from me p.s. I guess the criticisers' Mums never taught them the rule "if you have nothing NICE to say, say NOTHING"! :)
Thanks Mark for letting us see things and places where you go. A lot of us do not have the means to travel, so to see things you see and show us where you go means a lot! Thank you so much. 💙
jesse, same stand 4 me. I love Japanese food so much! But not just food, everything in Japan and especially in Tokyo, Akiba (i am gamer and geek), i love Japanese history, Art, Women...
Amazing video. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. It's easy to see that so much work went into this, yet you made it seem effortless. I'm looking forward to my next trip!
This is the first video I seen by you and I been hooked every since this was 7 years ago still keeping up with your adventures hope you and your family keep staying healthy and safe look forward to more uploads!
Well I stayed with friends in Tokyo. this was my base. i also spent 3 days in Kyoto and 2 days in Hakotade in the north. All in all excluding the flight to and from uk, it was around..mmm just under 3 thousand pounds. But i did visit everything. Mind you, i did spend most time in Akihabara. :)
I seriously don't understand why people would hate the face you make when eating some delicious food! I actually love seeing people enjoing their meals and appreciating all these flavours rather than just stuffing their mouths

Mark Wiens , amazing work with this Tokyo city guide! Although, I've enjoyed all of your city guides I think you really kicked things up a notch with this one! I can't wait to explore Tokyo again someday - it was actually the first city I ever visited in Asia back in 2003 on a one day stopover.
Thank you for sharing this video of Tokyo. Though I live in Tokyo myself, I've been given a project with the Tokyo Tourism Bureau and Kanto Tourism Agency to look into revamping guides into Tokyo and the surrounds. I draw inspiration from many content creators and draw upon them for some popular and hidden gems and watching your small snippet of your experiences gives me a few ideas to storyboard and then create the official guides. I found out that I was going to Japan next year as a birthday surprise. A lot of these places I had noted down months ago, but some I had no idea about so this was very helpful!
I watched this video randomly in HS like 7 years ago and I'm not sure why but I kept coming back to it. Just visited Japan 6 months ago and this video was a great help when planning the Tokyo portion of my trip. Mount Takao and the Nezu Shrine were two of my favorite locations I otherwise might've missed without this video! Excited to possibly go back in the future and catch a sumo match!
+OllyWazHere It is his trademark food-orgasm face. He does this every time he eats something. It is extremely disturbing to watch. I wished he would just describe what the food tasted like rather than pulling that same creep-face every time. Makes it look acted. Apart from that this is a pretty useful video.
me: something about this guys reaction after he eats annoys me.. *scrolls down to see if anyone mentioned about his facial expressions after every food he eats* me: LOOOOOOOL!!!!!
I could eat nothing but egg whites and spinach for a year; then finally have a slice of pizza, and not have the same reaction he does when eating food, lol
i have watched hundreds of these kinds of videos about Japan and Tokyo, my wife and i have visited twice already and now up fora thrid time. Thank you for showing me a few new places!
I can't believe all the hateful comments on this and other videos by Mark. One unfortunate thing about the internet are all the anonymous keyboard trolls that have nothing better to do with their lives than post mean spirited comments. I see nothing wrong at all with Mike's facial expressions when eating, and his happy smile and demeanor is a welcome change from all the bad things that happen in the world.. In fact it brings a smile to my face seeing his expressions because it's almost like I can sense how delicious the food is. A lot better than just describing what makes a food taste great.
Hi Mark. I've been watching your videos for sometimes and I found it really informative and interesting. I was recently in Tokyo and basically I followed almost 100% your "25 things to do in Tokyo". It was really fun and I really appreciate your video. Keep up the good works. :) Love, Roey
Haha, no worries Mark, I am watching heaps of your videos now, you have a brilliant channel! :) Makes me want to start organising a trip to Japan, and in the meantime I'm starting to cook more asian dishes! :)
i remember this is the first video i watched from your channel around 5 years ago. i was looking for travel reference for my travel to japan than i stumble upon your video, since then i subscribed to ur channel.
Thank you so much, Mark for this video. We definitely went to at least half of the places you recommended in this video! You have also inspired us to start vlogging our travels as well and share our experiences!
I'm a 20 year old and my dream is to go to Japan since the age of 14. Anime was the first thing that made me want to go visit, but after looking indept the city is jusy beautiful, the places to visit and the FOOD. I would love to taste sushi from where it first came from. The original is always the best. I also love the culture, the language, everything about Japan is just so beautiful. I really hope one day I could live my life long dream and visit one of the most beautiful places on earth - Japan. :)
I appreciated this video and it's content. I had been recommended a number of places mentioned here beforehand, but did, in fact, get a couple of important recommendations here that I will definitely visit on my upcoming trip to the city. But at the same time, I felt like I was looking at a poorly optimized webpage or something in video format: this dude must have said the word "Tokyo" thirty times, or more! Moreover, he continuously made this upsetting and strange face whenever he ate a bite of food. The content is great; the presentation is bizarre. Clean it up a bit, and then you'll have a really excellent video!
I think this was a perfect travel video. What you call 'video format', I call clear, concise information. As for Mark's facial expressions, they're one of his trademarks and it's called joy. He loves food and so do we, and if you don't like it, you came to the wrong channel.
Katniss Evergreen Then go alone. You will meet other people in hostels. A great guide video of Tokyo. But wow, this video was uploaded 4 years ago look at what you have accomplished since. Now you are the icon in global food exploring. Keep it up.
+Xpload Worth it! ONly went there once for two weeks - one week for exploring, one week (more or less) at the Worldcon (World's Science Fiction Convention) in Yokohama. (I stayed in Yokohama and commuted up to Tokyo every day I could.)
+Xpload Going there in 3 weeks time from Europe. Not a bad birthday present tbf, can't wait. Been one of my favorite travel destinations that I would like to visit aswell.
Definitely, your video is awesome and helpful, what I dont like the most is when It seems that the food was all great. you have that one face impression to all food you've taste, I know what will happen next when you taste food, you will pause and nod ur head and annoying part, you will close your eyes. Thanks for sharing though!
When you visit Tokyo, you'll have infinite possibilities of things to do, see, and eat. But I've narrowed it down to the top 25 in this brand new video (and don't worry, you'll see lots of #food in here too). "25 Things To Do in #Tokyo , Japan (Watch This Before You Go)" Press play to watch it now! I would also really be grateful if you would "share" this video as well. Thank you in advance! Also, here's the direct link: th-cam.com/video/lDoLLhswOwY/w-d-xo.html #VisitJapan #Japan #travel
Petit Loup I'll be going to Tokyo Japan for the first time this July. The plane and hotel are costing me $1800 but prices will differ. I'm spending 1 week. I have $2000 saved but only plan to spend around $1000.
Awesome video!!! Much more informational than most of the videos about Tokyo as it is not focused on the main touristic attractions. As I have already been in Tokio, this video is what I needed. Thank you
great video. Adding these 25 places to my trip planning in March. Thanks Mark cant wait for the food. Any place you recommend to eat at first? Arriving at hotel at around 800 pm
Assuming you're eating after dropping off all your stuff at the hotel, you wouldn't be eating until after 9pm most likely. So, I'd suggest researching a good ramen shop, as those hold later hours overall. Additionally, while some do have lunch specials of free oomori/kaedama noodles or rice, the price is the same all day and never really THAT high, so it's always a good choice late at night. (I think he states in this video the truth that you tend to want to have your good/big meal for lunch due to price changes lunch vs. dinner).
1st date dinner will be truly unforgettable with this guy
Agree hell I'm a guy and I would say yes to one date. I would probably learn something new from it
His face when he takes a bite of food is priceless. Thank you so much for this video!! I found it to be very informative and helpful. :)
Thank you very much Reanna Barnard

Not a place for "first time out of the womb" travel experience. Try Mexico, Canada or Europe first - much more foreigner friendly than Japan.

When you've been in a coma for 25 years and you eat food for the first time. Those reactions are priceless.
Amazing video. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. It's easy to see that so much work went into this, yet you made it seem effortless. I'm looking forward to my next trip!
I can not bear your intoxicating expression while you are enjoying food, which really inspires me to abandon my work and travel right away.

Kinda bugged me that you had the same staged reaction face when eating 😂
Ahaha true.
RektorGaming it looked like he was aroused while eating
I'm pretty sure it was intentional. Lol

Definitely, your video is awesome and helpful, what I dont like the most is when It seems that the food was all great. you have that one face impression to all food you've taste, I know what will happen next when you taste food, you will pause and nod ur head and annoying part, you will close your eyes. Thanks for sharing though!
hahahaha those faces he made while eating made me hate food xD
His face when he eats lol.
Every video you make there is something educational to learn about. I like all of your presentations. Mark you're doing an amazing job.
When you visit Tokyo, you'll have infinite possibilities of things to do, see, and eat. But I've narrowed it down to the top 25 in this brand new video (and don't worry, you'll see lots of #food in here too).

Petit Loup I'll be going to Tokyo Japan for the first time this July. The plane and hotel are costing me $1800 but prices will differ. I'm spending 1 week. I have $2000 saved but only plan to spend around $1000.

Going end of March!
Almost every comment mentions that reaction after eating :D
I had the same reaction when I saw those quiet calm place and streets ...
NOthing makes me happier than to see Mark happy.
Can wait to go in April. First though I'm going to South Korea in March.
That creepers face after having some meal hahahaha
Relaxing stroll... *seagull squawking*
It is mainly those noisy crows....you hear them everywhere in Japan....
(I think he states in this video the truth that you tend to want to have your good/big meal for lunch due to price changes lunch vs. dinner).
Awesome. Thanks for the info. Ramen was on top of my list just by what I heard.
I like your face expression when eating
Thank you Au Nguyen
I dunno, it's kinda weird...
