A true revolution when it comes to squares, it not only brings addition features making it a smartwatch, but also brings the amazing MIP screen. If like me you never were a fan of negative screens, this thing will change your mind!!
Although pretty lacking in the smartwatch department, it is one heck of a G-Shock.

I like the thought of it being a bad smartwatch but a really good g-shock. I really like the look of negative displays but they often aren't very legible. This looks great.
I don’t care about smart functions, but I love the screen.
Ye, i went to the shop to buy the ga2100 casioak. Turns out it looks too feminine on my wrist. Accidentally saw this model and ended uo buying instead. It just looks very sporty and elegant imo.
I wonder why low "frame rates" made it impossible to include a 1/100 second stopwatch; even if it doesn't look as nice and smoothly changing, you only need to see numbers when you stop the measurement. Although it's pointless to add 1/100s on a manually operated stopwatch, they should have added a 1/10 second level accuracy.
Can you run Doom on that screen?

I absolutely love this model, one of the best negative displays I've seen on a g-shock. Love the design and look of the watch, absolute killer on wrist in terms of design. Not out of reach in terms of budget either!

Interesting piece but I don’t understand the plastic buckle .....why? Weight? Cost? Seems like an obvious corner cut to me. Thanks for sharing.
This model range looks great. I've seen several of these in person in stores. I love the display and steel bezel, especially. I think I read somewhere that these were geared towards watersports enthusiasts, hence the tidegraph. Overall a solid watch, but I won't be getting one as it doesn't do anything I need that my solar-charging, Multiband 6 5600 G-Shock does not, so aside from aesthetics it's just not worth it for me.
Every person watching a watch review wants to see the watch on the wrist. Trust me.
So its a g-shock for surfers but no solarcharging ?
I am on the fence about this one. I like the metal bezel with the black painted g shock logo and I like the very legible display. The things I don't like though are all these "smart" features and activity trackers and just bullshit I would never use. I wonder would the battery last longer if I never used those features and never used the bluetooth connection. I love G shocks but generally just wear them because they are comfortable and I sometimes check the time and/or date. That is all I use them for. I have never once used timer or even stopwatch functions on any of my g shocks. The lack of solar and multi band 6 kinda bugs me also as I love those features.
I dont mind them nuisances. Especially the fact that i dont have to pay for tax and customs if i win this watch is definitely not a nuisance. 😊

Please don’t get me wrong, its a great watch for legibility, just a pity its let down by poorly designed firmware. It didn’t stop me owning and loving it.

Agree on the relatively poor battery life and weak "smart" watch functions. On the other hand, I find the watch to be very stylish, has a wonderful screen, and if you just want basic time-keeping functions it is excellent. Also, I really like the design of this plastic wrist strap with the double buckle. I have the same one on another G-Shock watch, the GA 900A and it is super comfortable.

Why do you care about the smartwatch functions on a surfer watch?
This isn't marketed as an all-sport smartwatch... it's marketed for exactly what it is...
GBX-100 uses CR2032 battery. Big (20 mm) lithium (probably) 220 mAh battery.
Maybe capacity is the problem. Solar batteries have 18 mAh.
Still, I would be very happy to have one.
I'm getting this to replace my Fitbit that died. I does the same thing, but maybe slower and without the touch screen. But basically I'll just use is for the timer and step counter, and maybe the notifications if I'm away from the phone. Good price and good looking.

Just the display is big plus point. Though I read about it's problems regarding surf tides I am no where near sea nor do I swim so it's gof definitely going to purchase it when available in India. Though tough solar would have been icing on the Cake
USB charging is planned obsolescence for me. You won't be able to find spare parts even if it's Casio when it comes to proprietary batteries.
Solar powered is really bad in my experience, it works when you are out in the streets all day but wrecks the battery life when you are an inside person and/or don't have good sunlight at all.
This is exactly what I wanted, a true digital/smartwatch hybrid with old school batteries.
My GA-100 variant also said 2 years, but with my use it lasted almost 5 (replaced the battery before that). I definitely expect 3 years out of this one easily.
You completely missed the point of this watch. It's not trying to be a smart watch or a training watch. It's specifically a surfers watch. Which it's absolutely brilliant at. It does exactly what it's designed to do. It gives accurate tide moon and daylight readings. The timers are for competition heats and the rest is designed for training. It is for professional surfers. You wouldn't bother buying a watch like this and then complain it has issues. It doesn't have issues. It's just not designed for you. It's like buying a pick up truck because you like the colour and then complaining it doesn't have trunk and the 4x4 makes it slow. It's a brilliant surf watch. It allows precise locations world wide to be programed for tides and surfers lives revolve around the options offered in this watch.
Basically a cool looking gshock w a cool display. If you use any of the smart watch functions, you will be disappointed.
I jog/walk a 3 mile path. Watch and phone record different distances and speeds depending on my jog/walk ratio. Very disappointing.
Is this watch suitable for trekking ? Does it show mountain height at trekking place ,atmospheric pressure and temperature ?

Why are the straps so looooong? Another drawback for us slimmer wristed folks. Springbar buckles are better to add extra keepers.
G shock and square watch is really attractive. I was sad when i didn't win last square watch i hope i may win. U really gave good reviews about watch.
Almost best negative display, only need matte screen cover. Plastic buckle can be swaped. 2-3 years of battery life is not bad, is it with bluetooth notifications?

*_What ever you do, don't wear that white band with black pants!!! The pants will indelibly stain your band. The same is true for red bands and perhaps for various color matte finish bands._*

To the point still A little hard on a Watch that costs almost 5 times less than my garmin fenix 7, I want it anyway looks really cool and I like how basic are its features

Changing the battery every 2 years is far far better than adjusting your automatic watch everytime you wear it after some watches in rotation ... why is it a negative thing? 🙄🙄🙄

The design, and of course the display just steals the show. I love it. Most people though would like see tough solar, but I would prefer to see a full black version with a black frame, similarly to the widely popular 5600BB with that menacing looks! Bracelet options! Or bright colors! A full metal polished premium King version. Or a basic cheap one without the advanced bluetooth sync features. Watch, stopwatch, countdown, basic features, many non-smartwatch loving people (including myself) would be totally OK with that. I also wonder why LEDs were used for backlight instead of electroluminescent plates. Modern LEDs are powerful (even the blue ones), yet EL is way cooler.
Does this have this have "vibration signal" (that is, it vibrates every hour)?
That's a really amazing Gshock. If it was available in my country and it was a good price I would have it by now.
I never liked squares but this looks good but not that smart.
Beautiful and certainly good to the public, especially on a big hand like mine. I'm sure I'd want it.
