Ye, i went to the shop to buy the ga2100 casioak. Turns out it looks too feminine on my wrist. Accidentally saw this model and ended uo buying instead. It just looks very sporty and elegant imo.
I like the thought of it being a bad smartwatch but a really good g-shock. I really like the look of negative displays but they often aren't very legible. This looks great.
I absolutely love this model, one of the best negative displays I've seen on a g-shock. Love the design and look of the watch, absolute killer on wrist in terms of design. Not out of reach in terms of budget either!
Wow! I've always liked the square G-Shock's, but wanted something better than the basic, and not as expensive as the metal ones. This is badass indeed!
I wonder why low "frame rates" made it impossible to include a 1/100 second stopwatch; even if it doesn't look as nice and smoothly changing, you only need to see numbers when you stop the measurement. Although it's pointless to add 1/100s on a manually operated stopwatch, they should have added a 1/10 second level accuracy.
I'm getting this to replace my Fitbit that died. I does the same thing, but maybe slower and without the touch screen. But basically I'll just use is for the timer and step counter, and maybe the notifications if I'm away from the phone. Good price and good looking.
This model range looks great. I've seen several of these in person in stores. I love the display and steel bezel, especially. I think I read somewhere that these were geared towards watersports enthusiasts, hence the tidegraph. Overall a solid watch, but I won't be getting one as it doesn't do anything I need that my solar-charging, Multiband 6 5600 G-Shock does not, so aside from aesthetics it's just not worth it for me.
Great LCD screen , looks very visible from all angles, the added bonus of the vibration alarm is the icing on the cake for those who are hearing challenged ( like myself).Great Review! Mike in Nova Scotia.
Just the display is big plus point. Though I read about it's problems regarding surf tides I am no where near sea nor do I swim so it's gof definitely going to purchase it when available in India. Though tough solar would have been icing on the Cake
Agree on the relatively poor battery life and weak "smart" watch functions. On the other hand, I find the watch to be very stylish, has a wonderful screen, and if you just want basic time-keeping functions it is excellent. Also, I really like the design of this plastic wrist strap with the double buckle. I have the same one on another G-Shock watch, the GA 900A and it is super comfortable.
The design, and of course the display just steals the show. I love it. Most people though would like see tough solar, but I would prefer to see a full black version with a black frame, similarly to the widely popular 5600BB with that menacing looks! Bracelet options! Or bright colors! A full metal polished premium King version. Or a basic cheap one without the advanced bluetooth sync features. Watch, stopwatch, countdown, basic features, many non-smartwatch loving people (including myself) would be totally OK with that. I also wonder why LEDs were used for backlight instead of electroluminescent plates. Modern LEDs are powerful (even the blue ones), yet EL is way cooler.
I am on the fence about this one. I like the metal bezel with the black painted g shock logo and I like the very legible display. The things I don't like though are all these "smart" features and activity trackers and just bullshit I would never use. I wonder would the battery last longer if I never used those features and never used the bluetooth connection. I love G shocks but generally just wear them because they are comfortable and I sometimes check the time and/or date. That is all I use them for. I have never once used timer or even stopwatch functions on any of my g shocks. The lack of solar and multi band 6 kinda bugs me also as I love those features.
Hopefully the next version of this watch will get much better, with solar and radio. A friend bought this watch, the design is fantastic for such a price. Looks awesome.
I just bought this watch regardless of all the negative points, I guess it is a good looking G shock for 160 bucks, this is my 4th G shock, love them all.
I really like the look and the layout of the main time screen. I would love a solar version with the fitness and smartphone features stripped out, that syncs time by radio.
Please don’t get me wrong, its a great watch for legibility, just a pity its let down by poorly designed firmware. It didn’t stop me owning and loving it.
Love the look of this G-Shock and the negative display is by far the best I've seen, I'm not sure how many of the features I would use, but with all the features It's a real pity It does not have solar.
Good review! I agree with you on almost everything. The accelerometer works pretty good for running. When I first got it I would compare it with my phone tracking and they would be within 1/10 of a mile on a 4 mile run. The notifications are nice. I used them when I was canoeing and left my phone in a water proof bag. I could see who was texting or emailing, but you can't reply and the notification choice is terrible. You get everything or nothing.
I have this watch and the screen is amazing. I never thought I would like a negative display this much. Hopefully Casio begins rolling out this tech to the rest of their line.
Amazing watch but I think it lacks solar charging. Anyway, give and take it still a cool watch to have. Congratulations Watch Geek on the 80K subscribers!
I think that if you're expecting smartwatch kinda features you should get a garmin instinct for example, that resembles the g shock style, but packed with more features that will probably make it a better smartwatch. For the pricetag I think it's a great value watch, and it is actually called a hybrid watch, which gives SOME smartwatch features but not fully and not intended to be one... wrong perspective to judge this amazing watch!
To the point still A little hard on a Watch that costs almost 5 times less than my garmin fenix 7, I want it anyway looks really cool and I like how basic are its features
Great looking watch, looks more like dw5600 series. Dot matrix screen is an improvement, if you look at just the g-shock watch, it's a great upgrade, but bad as smart watch. I would say this would be the evolution of the 5600 series.
Most people who need smartwatch functionality will buy a smartwatch. Checking and scrolling through your notifications here is way more cumbersome than actually picking up your smartphone.
GBX-100 uses CR2032 battery. Big (20 mm) lithium (probably) 220 mAh battery. Maybe capacity is the problem. Solar batteries have 18 mAh. Still, I would be very happy to have one.
Great! I guess the activity/step tracker is as inaccurate as on the GBD-800 (which measures up to 2,000 steps more on daily use than my Garmin Forerunner 235). The lack of solar power does annoy me on my GBD-800 as well tbh.
The fact that it’s a g shock says one thing... it’s a durable and tough watch, which g shock is knows for.. so smart watch or not this is a great piece for any watch collector!
USB charging is planned obsolescence for me. You won't be able to find spare parts even if it's Casio when it comes to proprietary batteries. Solar powered is really bad in my experience, it works when you are out in the streets all day but wrecks the battery life when you are an inside person and/or don't have good sunlight at all. This is exactly what I wanted, a true digital/smartwatch hybrid with old school batteries. My GA-100 variant also said 2 years, but with my use it lasted almost 5 (replaced the battery before that). I definitely expect 3 years out of this one easily.
Almost best negative display, only need matte screen cover. Plastic buckle can be swaped. 2-3 years of battery life is not bad, is it with bluetooth notifications?
I think we probably wont be hearing of a fully functional touchscreen gshock smartwatch in a while... Hope to be wrong about it. Even so, I still use my 1984 dw-5200 so this would be a huge technological leap 😂
Would u recommend this watch? I have dw5600 but too basic.. I would love to own this as it got many functions.. The display looks cool.. Maybe got a few drawbacks but which models doesn't..

I don’t care about smart functions, but I love the screen.

The display is awesome! I really do like the design too!
I like the look even if I didn’t use all the function
Wow! I've always liked the square G-Shock's, but wanted something better than the basic, and not as expensive as the metal ones. This is badass indeed!
Really like the style of this design. I hesitated because of the negative display but after watching this I might give it a try. Thanks.
Even though it's not solar powered, I love the screen and strap. Definitely a special watch and love the looks of it 👍🏻
I wonder why low "frame rates" made it impossible to include a 1/100 second stopwatch; even if it doesn't look as nice and smoothly changing, you only need to see numbers when you stop the measurement. I too am not a fan of negative displays. That is the only complaint I have about my mudmaster. Thanks for the review
Just the display is big plus point. Though I read about it's problems regarding surf tides I am no where near sea nor do I swim so it's gof definitely going to purchase it when available in India. Though tough solar would have been icing on the Cake

That's a really amazing Gshock. If it was available in my country and it was a good price I would have it by now.
Hopefully the next version of this watch will get much better, with solar and radio.
A friend bought this watch, the design is fantastic for such a price.
Looks awesome.
Beautiful and certainly good to the public, especially on a big hand like mine. I'm sure I'd want it.
I just bought this watch regardless of all the negative points, I guess it is a good looking G shock for 160 bucks, this is my 4th G shock, love them all.
Every person watching a watch review wants to see the watch on the wrist. Trust me.
I like this watch because of the sunrise/sunset and tide functions because I work on the sea. Great review! Keep them coming!
It would be the best watch for cycling, gym and training.
Not as bulky as 350.
Best watch for me .
G Shock - the last watch I would own
I really like the look and the layout of the main time screen. I would love a solar version with the fitness and smartphone features stripped out, that syncs time by radio.
I can't find one of these for sale ANYWHERE in the UK. Really interested in a black one. Love the design and screen tech.
I love the looks and legibility of the display. 100% worth the price IMO. Hoping to get one in 2021.
Very cool piece! Love the display! Wish it was SOLAR like you said!
Please don’t get me wrong, its a great watch for legibility, just a pity its let down by poorly designed firmware. It didn’t stop me owning and loving it.
I think it's a worthy revolution of the square line if they improve the connectivity issues.
Just received my white GBX-100. Very nice watch. Using it without app. Would be nice to see some updates in firmware. For example ms in stop watch.
Looks good love all the functions keep up the good work i have found out how to work some of my watch from of your many to understand videos
Great videos 👍. I like the plastic buckle.metal buckle's can scratch my surfboard deck and I don't have this problem with the plastic ones
I like the venting on the strap but very surprised about the stopwatch. The dot matrix looks cool.
Love G-Shocks that can play multiple roles. This is just al all-round beauty
Love the look of this G-Shock and the negative display is by far the best I've seen, I'm not sure how many of the features I would use, but with all the features It's a real pity It does not have solar.
I usually don't like the aesthethic of g-shock but this looks really good
Good review!
It looks like a great looking watch, retro and class with the metal bezel
I have this watch and the screen is amazing. I never thought I would like a negative display this much. Hopefully Casio begins rolling out this tech to the rest of their line.
I want this watch toooo!!! Thanks for your qualities videos!!
It is very different to other casios style and operation wise and for that reason I really like it
Good g shock watch with steps counter. Good while running biking or doing other physical activity
Good looking G-shock! I've been really trying to fight the urge to buy a G-shock square, but I could sure use one.
I like the brushed steel bezel. Looks very nice on that model
G-shocks never fail to amaze , Looks marvelous.
It looks great, hopefully they can address those shortcomings in the next revision.
Realy nice G! Best compromise between a normal/smart watch.
Has to be one of the coolest looking G Shock Squares!
I dont mind them nuisances. Especially the fact that i dont have to pay for tax and customs if i win this watch is definitely not a nuisance. 😊
So its a g-shock for surfers but no solarcharging ?
One of the most interesting Casio up to now
Brilliant legibility!!!😳 My old G Shock analogue/digi is a pain. Mind you I would probably use it as a WATCH. Nice review.👍🏻😎
Amazing watch but I think it lacks solar charging. Anyway, give and take it still a cool watch to have. Congratulations Watch Geek on the 80K subscribers!
This watch has been my crush ever since i laid my eyes on it
Interesting piece but I don’t understand the plastic buckle .....why? Weight? Cost? Seems like an obvious corner cut to me. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome look...one of the best displays on a gshock
Still rockin a ga 100cf... sold my rangeman for 160usd due to this pandemic... what a life
G shock and square watch is really attractive. I was sad when i didn't win last square watch i hope i may win. U really gave good reviews about watch.
Need a Gshock like this with HR monitor and sleep tracking.
I've just bought it and it's shipping. I don't care much about solar powered watches since there is not much sunlight all the year where I live
Thanks WG, nice, honest review 👍. Plastic is cheaper than steel 😉.
i wish they make it with tough solar and positive display. thank you again for this great detail video. have a nice day, cheers. :)
Times are changing and so are the designs. Let's embrace them!
@watchgeek. Very good video.
Question, is there a way to set up the local time and a second time in the same screen to check both at a glance?
Can you run Doom on that screen?
Ye
I think that if you're expecting smartwatch kinda features you should get a garmin instinct for example, that resembles the g shock style, but packed with more features that will probably make it a better smartwatch. Very informative! It's a shame they did not add solar to this beautiful watch. That feature should have been a no brainer for Casio.
It's for sale on Amazon at the moment thinking of picking this up
To the point still A little hard on a Watch that costs almost 5 times less than my garmin fenix 7, I want it anyway looks really cool and I like how basic are its features
Not available in Poland yet.... it would be nice to have one :)
Great looking watch, looks more like dw5600 series. Dot matrix screen is an improvement, if you look at just the g-shock watch, it's a great upgrade, but bad as smart watch. I would say this would be the evolution of the 5600 series.

Been waiting for a smart Gshock forever !!!
GBX-100 uses CR2032 battery. Big (20 mm) lithium (probably) 220 mAh battery.
Maybe capacity is the problem. Solar batteries have 18 mAh.
Still, I would be very happy to have one.
For me this a killer... love the design and LCD ❗️🙌🏻
Great display and size. If this was solar I would already have one.
Great! I guess the activity/step tracker is as inaccurate as on the GBD-800 (which measures up to 2,000 steps more on daily use than my Garmin Forerunner 235). The lack of solar power does annoy me on my GBD-800 as well tbh.
Very informative as usual. Good watch but would be better with tough solar function to me personally.
I actually think its a great take on the squared series, even though it seems aimed to only a niche of people.
They should have use that bezel to put solar charge, but it's still a nice product at an affordable price
Solid review as always. I’d like to win it, don’t own a square. Keep up the good work!
Great review as always and an awesome watch to give away! Maybe I'll finally win this one!
Keep up the good work
The fact that it’s a g shock says one thing... it’s a durable and tough watch, which g shock is knows for.. so smart watch or not this is a great piece for any watch collector!

I hope it isn't to late for the giveaway. Love the watch.
giveaway make ppl happy ! good job
Love it! Hope this will be my 1st casio watch!
Question : is the steps counter accurate?
Almost best negative display, only need matte screen cover. Plastic buckle can be swaped. 2-3 years of battery life is not bad, is it with bluetooth notifications?
thanks for sharing again
I saw the unbox, I definitely would use it.
It's close to being perfect without being a smart watch. Still might get one.
I think we probably wont be hearing of a fully functional touchscreen gshock smartwatch in a while... Hope to be wrong about it.
Even so, I still use my 1984 dw-5200 so this would be a huge technological leap 😂
I love the screen. I wonder how would it be a non crippled version.
Would u recommend this watch? I have dw5600 but too basic.. I would love to own this as it got many functions.. The display looks cool.. Maybe got a few drawbacks but which models doesn't..
I think it's an interesting watch and something a bit different to the usual gshock aesthetic and functions.
A very nice watch and review.
Cheers, I'd probably use it as a regular watch...
After all it's a casio and I love it in any way... 😊
Yes, I really want that one!
