  • This little girl is a Lesser Long Eared Bat who was very flat when I picked her off the garage door where she had been hanging for 36 hours.
Her ears were up which is always a bad sign, and she was very shouty, however when I got her to the carer she'd warned up significantly and was cranky and wriggly.
3 days later, she was stuffing her face and behaving like a normal little microbatty.
This footage is from 2 weeks later; I love her confident nom noms.
Thanks Jess for the footage of our adorable little Maggie May.
I"ve included some footage of a non rescue that I did where a juvenile bat was hanging out in a tree alone during the day; she's too high to get down safely but I suspect there's nothing wrong with her and any rescue attempt would see her fly off. I went back on subsequent days, and she was still there, hanging out along the same branch, but I noticed a buddy very high up the tree; both look quite young and both are moving well around the tree so I'm leaving them there and keeping an eye on things.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me.
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.
    Here’s Jenny’s email.

A horror film for mealworms! So glad she’s better. These tiny bats look so fragile, but given good care, their resilience shines through.

I probably need to go check the tree tomorrow, but my watchers at the location haven't let me know if they're still there's or not.

I remember Maggie May. It’s nice to see her thriving.
I hope that the wild juveniles are doing well. Maybe it’s too loud at Centennial Park, or they’re just sneaking off for some fun without the adults. 💙

I think it's more resource guarding than anything else, specially given that there was a mother little batty at the top of the tree when I came back to check the next day.

Maggie May will be overwintered and released in Spring; they don't really hang out in trees, but live in about 3 different roosts in their area. They may hang out in tree hollows (which are becoming increasingly rare in city trees) or under bark (but this is usually further out of town in more rural areas)...
Maggie May is doing well; I hope her family and group are doing OK and living the good life.

It was the MOPs who found this bat and had been watching it. I kept moving the camera around too much to put a pointer on the screen. Unfortunately the camera doesn't do this any justice. It was just indicative of a rescue call.

It's not Late September quite yet, so I don't think she has to go back to school, however she will be released (rather than go back to school) in late September or October.

They look so fragile, I wouldn't dare touching one, even though I'm vaccinated, simply out of fear of hurting the little fella.

    • @Megabattie
      @Megabattie  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Koppsr
You would think that you'll break or hurt them, but you just form a snuggle tunnel with your fingers and they'll happily sit in there. They'll let you know if you're holding too hard.
When you first rescue them if they're not happy and are really squirmy, then it's hard to hold them and that's when I often lose them (they escape and I have to chase them).
Of course there was one memorable LLE (Lesser Long Eared) batty, Teabag, who escaped into my apartment and it took me 2 days to find her and hours to catch the little wriggle worm.
Search in the YT search bar for Megabattie/Teabag if you want the entertainment of Meg chasing a microbat around her bedroom over a period of a few hours; it was both funny and frustrating.
I think there might be 3 videos of Teabag.,
