The Guru has spoken. That Omega of yours!! I love it more and more every time I see it. Never sell it, unless it's to me ;-)
Fantastic video as always. That GP and Zenith are pure class, but to be honest, I could buy every single watch you pictured LOL
    Best regards,

Vintage is where it's at. Most people overlook Gruen, yet it was a Gruen Precision that Sean Connery wore in the first bond films. Gruen and Rolex also shared movement suppliers in Aegler and a few models were verbatim copies like the doctor's watch. Bulova has many great vintage models I have an affinity for their divers watches especially the super compressors with the rotating bezel under the crystal controlled by a second crown, this case was also used by IWC and Hamilton. Hamilton offered the micro rotor in the thin-o-matic which is a very cool complication, they also had the original LCD watch in the Pulsar a watch worn by Kojack and in solid gold was more expensive than a Day-Date at the time.
On the foreign end the Seiko Bell Matic alarm watches are cool as are the Vulcain Crickets a watch worn by Harry Truman. Seiko and Citizen bullhead chrono's are very cool 70's pieces.
Universal Geneve had several great pieces, the Tri-Compax is on the higher end but their prices have been stagnant for quite a while. The Tri-Compax was the most complicated production watch when it was introduced, it was also worn by Harry Truman who was a watch collector, and Universal Geneve was distributed by the Henri Stern Watch agency, yes the Patek Philippe company.
On the chronograph side Heuer automatics like the Camaro are fantastic values, as are many panda dial manual wind Breitlings which can be had for $1,500 a panda dial Carrera is over ten times that money! If you want an affordable El Primero powered watch look no further than a Movado Datron or Astronic, they made several variations and are under the radar. Some of their divers chronographs are starting to zoom.
On the Rolex end don't overlook Tudor Rangers which can be had for ~ $600 right now with a sapphire crystal on ebay! The Tiger chronographs are headed towards big block prices. And you are correct you cannot go wrong with a vintage Datejust, the 60's - 70's pieces used Jacoby Bender, C+I bracelets some were folded some had that stretched feel from new a later Rolex jubilee or oyster is worth the premium.
The only real caveat with vintage is parts, the obscure stuff might be cool but parts might be a nightmare, even certain parts for Bulova accutrons are getting mighty scarce and that was a popular watch!

Nice to see Gruen mentioned. The company made many beautiful and innovative watches. Any watch that James Bond would wear is worthy of consideration. (Sean Connery's Bond wore one. It was probably his own personal watch. Sadly, as far as I know, production Gruens never shot lasers, held poison capsules, or launched missiles.)

    Great video Frederico.
For me, the best vintage bargains are from Seiko; there's a multitude of models and variations, and all can be had for less than $500. I have a Seiko Bell-Matic; in-house automatic movement with mechanical alarm and day-Date complications, a Seiko 5 Sports day-date with UFO case and Razor bracelet and I recently purchased a mint Seiko Chronograph Automatic with the 'Pouge' 6139 in-house movement. All are 1971 models being my birth year, all around 40mm so wearable sizes and all keep great time and. The best thing is they all cost less than $300 each. Check them out. Although they're not Swiss pieces they are still excellent quality and have stood the test of time.

I love that you talked about vintage American watches! I have several Lord Elgins and 2 Helbros watches, I love them all. I also have vintage Accutron watches. Iust so you know, I also have Tissot, Fredirico Constant, Lucien Piccard and of course a Rolex submariner. But I do love those older American watches. Thanks for the review.

Hi Federico. I was pleasantly surprised that you included the Omega Geneve amongst your five vintage watches. My 21st birthday present ( 49 years ago! ) was a 1968 9ct gold manual wind Geneve with a champagne dial. I still have it to this day with the original strap buckle, box, manual, guarantee and the jewellers receipt for £49:19:6 sterling. That was a lot of money then for my parents to find, which is why I would never sell it, because it also came to me with much love. I'm just so pleased that you have recognised that my treasured watch has attained a modest vintage status. Thank you Federico. Love the channel.

All nice choices. I also like not so popular Swiss watches around 50's to 70's that you can get for 10-30 €. Rebranded watches that are sold under many local wholewsaler's brands, or original Swiss brands that aren't so wanted now. For example I have a lovely little Sigma that I got for 17 €. These things can be really good quality too, before the fall of Swiss watch industry when quartz happened.

The Wakmann Watch Co. was started in 1945, and was based in New York City. Apparently, they had a relationship with Brietling, and used some of their movements. I particularly like their chronographs, with the flat, rectangular pushers. In keeping with what you have been saying, some appear to be on the small side. They are not expensive, and my non- working example was actually gifted to me.

Thanks for the list of American made watches to look out for. Elgin is the only one I was aware of, and even have one vintage model in my collection. But now that I know about Gruen being American-made (and they do look fantastic), I hope to find some gems.

Hello Federico, first of all : thank you for this video, secondly, I have been doing some research, for a few months, on 1601 or 16234 in Chrono24, other local second hand watch sellers in Spain and watchuseek and some other websites and I could not find any of those in the prices you have mentioned, most of them are between 2800€ to 3500€, am I looking in the wrong places?. Thank you very much again, please keep doing these videos, honestly, all the knowledge you have on the industry is just amazing. I have 2 vintage breitings from the 50's - chronos. lots of compliments on these
one baum mercier with a tiger eye dial from the 70's These were quite popular in the day - 18K. A russian Poljot made in USSR(rite on the dial at 6) around 1970 with an alarm. I like foreign made vintage watches. Only mistake I made was I bought a Vulcain from the 50's. Turns out it had water damage - so you need to be careful when buying vintage

great video, but this is related because of vintage not so much deals. But Swatch time and time again has proven to create value for their watches. The original ones from the 80's can be bought at a price up to $1200! If you can find one for under $800 that is a good price for a watch that will go up in value. The original Irony collection or any of the limited edition club watches are sure to be a decent investment. So if youre in the market for something to hold onto for a while and possibly sell down the road Swatch is a notable brand.

I'm looking at either an Omega Geneve Automatic Day/Date (Cal. 1022, Silver Dial) or a 1966 Rolex Air King Precision 5500 as my first vintage timepiece. Which would be the better purchase?

Is there a standard age for a vintage watch, that a lot of collectors go by?

    Hey Frederico,
What are the main questions to ask a seller of a vintage piece?
I'm interested, but afraid of getting burned. How do I mitigate the risk?

Find a respectable dealer. Or do a bunch of research, no specific questions it depends piece by piece... If you want some help finding a piece you can hit me up, I may be able to help...

I haven't seen a nice vintage date just for less than $3,300. Does anyone recommend a site for these vintage pieces? Especially the omega stainless?
