I'm impressed that you knew the difference between a shepherd's pie & cottage pie. Now we've just got to get you to use the word mince instead of ground! Brilliant metal mug cook out - made me hungry!
@OliveDrabAlliance don't worry! You have ground lamb, ground beef etc. We have lamb mince, beef mince (steak mince if you're posh)...again. I must say that was a phenomenal dish to prep & cook in a metal mug. Delicious!! ...New subscriber from the UK 🇬🇧
I think I edited it out, but she went on a rant about how we should have brought our candles! One of these days I will treat here to a propper candle light dinner. :-/ Thank you so much!
Looked delicious. 1 less onion soup 2 add green beans 3 stir it up I made chili from scratch in my canteen cup one time and heating all of the individual components and then adding them together was a pain. But if you put cheese and fritos on top It's gourmet.
Agreed. I think the onion soup might have been a little much. Take it or leave it depending on what you like. I wanted to cover the cup with heavy duty foil and "bake" it with hot coals, but I didn't. However, it can be done. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it
Thank you very much. I could probably do without the Lipton Onion Soup mix as it was a little much, but hay, some people like more. Either way it would be good
That looks pretty good, we do a version where we use green beans and breakfast sausage instead of lamb or hamburger. Not sure what they would call that version. We've also done it with sweet corn as well. And yes, shredded cheese and baked. Have an awesome weekend brother.
Apple River Canyon State Park. We have been coming here for years and is one of my favorite places on Earth. It is a very small park, but very nice and we have a lot of good memories here. Thanks for tuning in. I hope you enjoyed the video. Thank you!
We have a friend just down the road who runs an aluminum foundry. I really want to see if he could make a Dutch oven style lid for the Crusader or even the U.S. GI canteen cup. Maybe.... stay tuned
Thank you, I wanted to cover the top with foil and put some hit coals on the top, but time was short and the park was actually crowded, so we took the easy way out. It was good, next time I might leave the Lipton Soup Mix out. It was a LOT of flavor and sometimes less is more. Thank you so much
It appears you had a great time experimenting with a new food dish. Sometimes a simple meal shared is better than a 5 course meal at a fancy restaurant. Cheers!
It was good. I might leave the Lipton Souo mix out next time. I also wanted to put foil on to of the cup and use hot coals to bake it a little bit, but, we opted to leave the area.
Sheppard's pie = 1 sheppard; Sheppards' pie = 2 or more sheppards; Sheppard pie = werewolf. Keep off the moors, stick to the road, best of luck to you.
You did really well considering just using a basic mess kit. I see you using the Yugo K.F.S. those knives are sharp!. That black coating on the canteen cup won't last long. GOOD VIDEO THANKS.👍👍
Good eye! I am impressed. The silverware from the yougoslavian kit is pretty solid stuff. I'm going to have to bust that kit out and make a better video about it. Thank you for watching
@@OliveDrabAlliance Hi. The Yugo knife holds a great edge. The can opener is superb at opening cans when you master the technique. Hold the knife close up to the opener tongue and wiggle away. It will all fall into place after a couple of trys. 👌👍🍴
@CalumMacNeil-qb6wp My Yugo kit has been in my truck, behind the seat for a long time, however, the silverware from that kit has been in my pack since I got it. I do need to practice the opening of cans with it though. Thanks for the helpful tips.
think a little dutch oven would work fine. low heat from below so it didn't burn and lots of glowing coals on the lid so you get a gratin surface on the mash. but if you car camp, you might as well bring real potatoes, onions, butter, etc. you can cook gourmet food even if you are camping.
@@OliveDrabAlliance no, it was just a suggestion, just thought that if you car camp, you can take so much more with you. but if you are going to walk a mile or two, a light pack is good. so keep doing what you are doing, will follow.
Soooʻo many easier ways to cook this. I didn't even do a good job of cooking it. Stay tuned buddy. I will revisit this topic and try to do better Thanks for watching
I was thinking of covering with foil and using some hot coals Dutch oven style, but we didn't. Thanks for the tip. I think the can would probably work best!
My deepest and most sincere apologies to my U.K. friends for mucking up this dish. I tried, but I'm sure I didn't do it justice.
great video looks like you had fun
Oh we did. We had no plan for this video. We just had an idea, showed up and did it hope you enjoyed the end result
Thank you
Another great video 😊
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
I hope you enjoy the video. It was filmed at Apple Canyon River State Park in Northwest Illinois.
Genius little lightweight set up there, we’ll played Sir👏🏻 very well played indeed 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you very much.
Yeah, it works pretty well. I'm glad you checked out the video.

I will look it up?

Well done, I may use your recipe on our next camping trip. Here in the UK you do not mix it up just eat it as it comes. Enjoyed the video very much.😊
As much as I am a fan of Lipton Onion Soup in recipes, I might leave it out if this one, it was a little rich for my taste.
Thanks for watching.
Looks to me like you did a good job! I make mine similarly, but in my Trangia.
The Lipton Onion Soup made it a little rich, it could have done without that, but if you like a more robust flavor, leave it in.
Thank you
You didn’t have the candles on the table for date night…Looks like another good recipe…Have fun stay safe.
I think I edited it out, but she went on a rant about how we should have brought our candles!
One of these days I will treat here to a propper candle light dinner.
:-/
Thank you so much!
Looks really good. A wind screen would help you with cook-time and fuel conservation.
Definitely. It was fairly calm, but occasionally the breeze would pick up. I an Definitely see a wind guard being useful
Thanks

Good Evening ! Hope you had a great weekend. TAKE CARE..
It's been good. I am currently on vacation. We are heading to the beach... stay tuned!

Sprinkle of cheese and fire toast the top. And Buttered flaky layer biscuits!

@OliveDrabAlliance I prefer the french cut ones in that dish btw.

It would be hard to get but i love my Heavy cover lid for the N.A.T.O. / Crusader cup and the Cruasder 2 Stove i like it better,

Came for the cook kit and stayed for the pie. And I mix mine all up when I eat it
I vote for mixing it up!
Also.... It probably could have done without the Lipton Onion Soup... normally I'd say add this to any recipe, but it was a little much.
Cheers!
Right then it becomes Frito pie and so on. I dig your adventures man.
Thank you so much!
And yes.... Fritos on everything!!!!
Hahahahaha
Just kidding (kinda)
Looks really tasty.
That’s quite a project for canteen cup cooking.
I love the trangia burner.👍🔥

😊 camp food is the best food! 🤤 😋
It definitely is!

Utube is arbitrarily deleting my comments.
Somehow mentioning Americans and ketchup is hate speech.
Only if you mention ketchup on hot dogs.... that is commie talk!
I reckon they don’t make Lamb Spam
They sure don't.
.....but they should!
Thank you!
I didn't know that lamb was supposed to be used, makes sense
The ground lamb I used was from Aldis. I guess it's called cottage pie if you used ground beef.

Put it all together in a small backing dish and bake in a 14 cm Billy Can.
