I became a teenager in '71, I did hang around in roller rinks, drive in theaters...talked a lot on a CB radio...owned a pet rock and still have my mood ring.

I remember watching the tall ships coming into port in Newport, Rhode Island during the bicentennial celebrations in 1976. It was a sight to behold. How I miss those days.

I remember all the different colors, shapes and sounds of cars. Cars now all look alike with the same few colors and styles. Dull.

I went from a young teenager to a young adult in the 70's and I never set foot in anywhere disco was going on. That was the most embarrassing part about the 70's. The music that brought my friends and I together was music like Pink Floyd.
Whatever got us laid!😊
I remember stop signs spray painted with the word "disco" under the word "stop".
There was a radio personality (Steve Dahl) who held a "Disco Demolition" event at Comiskey Park. I didn't get to attend, but I saw highlights on the news.
All our rock stations destroyed Disco, I never liked disco.
My buddies and I didn't do the roller rink. We did the ice rink.
I used to have a pet rock. It was a wild one I found and domesticated. Never could get it to fetch, but it was a master at playing dead.😝 Those were the days!

The Chopper bicycle looked very cool and was a 3 speed. Those are the good parts. Now the bad. It was heavy as hell and the 16 inch front wheel made it hard to control. Literally all the weight was on the back and the front would kick out from under you. Even the guy who designed it later said it was a horrible bike. It was a cool bike. That is what counted.

LOL! I had one of those "Eliminators"... Coolest bike ever, but heavy as a dump truck, and hard to pedal, no matter what gear you were in!
Ah, memories. I was a little kid to late teen that decade. I rode dirt bikes, collected beer cans, listened to CB radio, enjoyed the bicentennial, went to Six flags for the first time to ride the Screaming Eagle. I lived in the country. I didn't skate. I rode bicycles though.

We had skating rinks growing up in the 90s and they were some of my fondest memories
I had a Lava Lamp in 1966, and, they had been available several years prior!

I was 16 in 1978 and I would not drive without a CB radio because to me it was a safety issue. Channel 9 is the federally mandated emergency channel.

AM which we can now LEGALLY use in the UK Bought Convoy 45 in 1975 and knew ALL, of the trucker talk without ever having a rig. God

I was a younger teenager (13 years old) in the late 70’s in So Cal. I would take a bus to the mall with friends for 50 cents. We would hang out there all day. Try on clothes, maybe put something on layaway, eat, and catch a movie. No phones! If you needed to call your parents, you’d use a pay phone. We’d get back to the bus stop after dark and walk home. About half a mile. I would never have let my kids do the same thing. Not a chance!
I was a teenager in the seventies and lived in SoCal. I loved the roller rink. I had gold glitter skates from Sears. I want to add a few things to the list that I remember fondly. I had a pukka shell necklace and turquoise rings on every finger and silver bracelets. I had wing bangs and wearing Danskin ballet outfits for the disco! My bedroom was filled with posters that lit up the room with black lights. I was no allowed to go on a date with a guy who drove a van!! We all wore either wallabies, earth shoes or beach comer bills flip flops. I mixed matched my bikini tops and bottoms. I rode my bicycle everywhere everyday and had to be home before the street lights came on. We were the first family on our street to get a microwave. My grandpa started a fire because he put a can of baked beans in the microwave and blew it up! It’s funny now but at the time it was terrifying. It took me years to trust that it wasn’t going to happen again! Who knew? But I digress. I had a portable tape recorder and I would tape songs on the radio. Growing up in the seventies and being so close to Disneyland was epic. I remember hanging out at the CocaCola stage with Papa Do Run Run playing beach boy music as the stage lifted up from the floor. We met boys from all over the world. This video was so fun to watch because it reminded me of my youth and how many serial killers I dodged during that time period. Groovy!😊

Class of '76 as well. And of all the crazy stuff that took place in Chicago during the 70's, the most interesting, and mostly annoying things were the "Bicentennial Sale" commercials that actually started airing in 1975...🤔

I was born in 71. I vividly remember when my parents gave me the Clackers in late 70s. Those hard balls hit hard when you miss and one of them ended up on your forearm😂
I was about 8 would do that for hours when I was not riding bikes with my sisters.
Pet Rock loved to play Roll Over especially down from top of a slope. And was very obedient tell it to stay
O.K. where did you find that picture of me and my two younger brothers sit on the carpet in my parents living room !

TUBE socks were big in the 80’s too.
My mood ring was always black.
With the exception of the obvious chopper model. All the other Bicycles were Schwinn Orange or apple crate bikes. They had a small tire up front and a large drag slick in the back simulating a dragster. I was sporting a Honda Trail 70 In 1970.
It was not the best bike to jump ramps with due to the stick shifter.
In 76 I bought a factory stock
64 1/2 Mustang. And went surfing during the day. Discos at night.
The paper 📑 fortune 🎱 teller was played with in elementary school 🏫 in early sixties

I so hated and still hate flared trousers.
The smiling face didn't have "Commercial origins." The design was created in Worcester, Ma in 1963. It was created as a fun morale booster for the employees of a local Insurance company. The yellow face was supposed to be fun and cheerful. Pins were made and given to employees, but were never sold to the general public.
Since Harvey Ball did not copyright his character, Hallmark started using the face in the 1970s for commercial uses. Hallmark actually tried to copyright the design and made a small fortune from pins, shirts, posters, etc. The creator only received a very small amount of money for the original art.
Worcester, Ma has regular events, a mural, and even the Smiley on some of its street signs. Theres even a costumed mascot that shows up at ball games and parades.

The Pet Rock was the greatest marketing con of all time. The "inventor" sold more than a million rocks to a lot of naive people when all they needed to do was walk out into their backyard or woods to find a "pet" for free. That just showed that people in America will buy anything, something that's still true to this day.
I was about 12 when mood rings came out, naturally I had one I never believed it was reading me, per tock never entree my mind as “I want that along with the & ball”.

They show flared bottom pants 👖 Called them bell bottoms. Flares went outward. Bell bottoms turned in at the hem. Why they make that mistake

I grew up in the 70s and remember all these things. I remember the pet rock and thought it was stupid. I assume people who paid money for a rock are the same people voting for trump nowadays. Ignorance knows no limits.
