The hotel looks like a perfect place to relax and chill for a few days. I loved the sneak peek into the luxury of a spring water bath in a hotel room. I am curious if there were other zen experiences in the hotel or nearby. Excellent storytelling! This is definitely a place I would love to visit.

Had a great time, including at the hot springs. 9:1411:46 As the hot springs culture was developed during the Japanese occupation period, the stool is for the same purpose as in Japan: as you probably know, it's bathing etiquette (even at home) to completely cleanse yourself prior to soaking and relaxing in the bath. This of course contrasts with the western notion of washing oneself IN the bath and then soaking in the dirty water, which is abhorrent to the Japanese. 9:20 The breakfast looks like a Japanese-Chinese combo with, as you mention, the grilled mackerel being very Nihon. 12:23 If I'm not mistaken (the fan shape leaves are the giveaway), that looks like a ginkgo biloba tree in the corner, the nut of which you have already experienced 9:54. Please try Kagaya Hot Spring Hotel in Beitou, Taipei next time. It is by far the best hot spring hotel I have ever experienced. Completely Japanese style, and do request the room with the park view where you can look over Beitou Park and Beitou Library with mountains in the distance. The hotel will assign you a butler to assist you settle down in your room. Also please remember to order the Kaiseki dinner when you book the hotel. It is a traditional multi-course Japanese fine dining over about 2 hours. Your butler will deliver your food course by course to your room. Really worth it!
