- SPT has approved the award of the first major contract in its bold modernisation plan for the much-loved Glasgow Subway.
Hillhead Station will become the first of the network's 15 stations to be radically revamped now the award of a £1,505,840 contract to firm Clancy Docwra has been approved by SPT's Partnership Committee.
The station, in the city's bustling west end, was last reconstructed in the 1970s and is now dated, worn and in need of a complete overhaul.
Work on its upgrade will begin this summer and is expected to be completed by mid-2012. Hillhead, which will then become SPT's flagship for the modernisation of all other stations, will remain fully operational during the works. These will include:
•the installation of two new escalators;
•the relocation of the ticket office and the creation of retail space for let;
•replacement of all materials on floors, walls and ceilings;
•new wayfinding, information and signage for passengers;
•DDA enhancements including hearing loops, tactile maps, tactile paving and colour contrast flooring;
•brighter, more welcoming energy-efficient lighting;
•the installation of public artworks by renowned artist Alasdair Gray.
Looks a lot like that now! 😲
The new design looks like a hotel more than a tube station
Once again, why no people in this video...
I hope this will be rectified as soon as possible..
maybe it will last longer than 30 yrs this time, although using clean mops to clean would help!
DIdnt even pay for a ticket. Just jumped the barrier!
How are you planning to ensure the trains still smell of pish and stale Tennents Super?
Why don't you have the junkies and beggars lying
On the pavement outside..
It would make it more realistic..
@thomascochrane Exactly my thoughts, rid the city of a true retro design, only disliked because of the dirty state it is in and replace with generic absolutely lifeless white everywhere. It's pathetic!
It is so sterile and has no character. Keep it as it is.... it just needs cleaned!
