I fell in love with plastic surgery since my 2 weeks elective during med School and that belief was reaffirmed after my one month during internship after graduation. But every time I see or am told the requirements for it, I feel a little bit crushed, and think to myself I should just go into some other specialty with lower requirements or workload. I'm not sure about general surgery, currently psychiatry is starting to sound like a more attractive option by the day. Having to look for and then work on research while study for license exams, and balancing hospital duties is making my anxiety levels shoot up like mad!

when I first became interested in attending medical school, I went and bought a practice suture kit, and I worked really hard to get the hang of the subcuticular technique. Now I’m primarily interested in neurosurgery, but that interest in cleaning up the scarring as much as possible still persists :)

I didn't realize until working at a level 1 trauma center how much plastic surgeons do. People are so disfigured after life changing accidents and they truly put people back together again. Someone broke their leg so bad plastics was involved because they didn't have enough skin to close it. They are so artistic!

I work with orthopaedic surgeons and it is a great field! The only thing is that the surgeries get rather repetitive since it tends to be the same issues over and over again. Whenever there’s an unusual case my surgeons get super excited and immediately share it with other orthopaedic surgeons haha

Watched this because I just finished a plastics and reconstructive surgery rotation and loved it.. but you hurt my feelings a little when you said you didn't like burn. I did two rotations on the burn unit and LOVED IT ahaha. But if your views are common among others, maybe that's not a bad thing, less people to compete against lol Great video!!

overall, great video. few things i wish were on here, what work life balance is like after you are out of school and you need to pay back med school loans, what salesmanship practices best - like most will refuse to do an ear lobe recon unless the patient can be pervaded into ear pinning as well.

I was born with a really appearent Nevus Flamenus, and a doctor that I am still greatful to have met did a complicated procedure 7 times and now it is way less appearent and is beautiful. I was planning on becoming a psychiatrist just a couple months ago but recently I have been very interested in surgery, specially plastic surgery. I honestly have fell in love with all the amazing procedures plastic surgeons perform. I often obsess over detail so I think this specialty is perfect for me. The reconstructive area seems like the most interesting but I also like the cosmetic part. I'm still in 8th grade so I have a long way to go but I am definitely interested and I hope future me does my best to reach my goal.

Don’t forget about independent path. General surgery first and then plastics. That’s another option that doesn’t have crazy requirements

I was planning on becoming a psychiatrist just a couple months ago but recently I have been very interested in surgery, specially plastic surgery. I honestly have fell in love with all the amazing procedures plastic surgeons perform. I often obsess over detail so I think this specialty is perfect for me. The reconstructive area seems like the most interesting but I also like the cosmetic part.
I'm still in 8th grade so I have a long way to go but I am definitely interested and I hope future me does my best to reach my goal.
Based on the current situation affirmative action might not be there in the future, so make sure you work extra hard!
