    As a child of the 1950's/1960's I can say that the quality of the PM Models Ta183 is marginally better than some of the 1/72 scale kits produced during my childhood. With this background, I've always enjoyed kits where you need to make your own improvements to produce an acceptable model over what the manufacturer has given you. Over the years I've built a couple of PM Ta183 kits and have been very happy with the results, once I've replaced the weak undercarriage legs with substitutes made up from hard stainless steel wire, and added a measure of detail to the cockpit.

    I remember when my Dad built this kit, a week later the landing gear gave way and it was sitting on it belly, ha ha! I've never seen him frustrated with a model before, so good job PM :D

    I built this kit as my 2nd kit. Turned out to be a lesson in how Frylite, sprayed onto a surface first and dabbed up with kitchen towel, can be used to eliminate varnish frosting. The kit still sits on my shelf 3 years later!

    Despite the kit quality and fit issues, I think you've done an excellent job with what you had to work with.

    August 12, 2020---Thanks for showing off this kit/your build of it. I think it looks pretty good. This is the first PM kit I've seen built and read how their F-100C is a real POS which is why I never bought one. Thing is, I look at this kit like a much cruder form of the early Airfix 1970's kits. Thing is, the shape is there and if you want to go to town on it, you can. Imagine putting a DO-335 ejector type seat in it, full cockpit in it, along with cutting the canopy so it's opened. Detail the snot out of the landing gear bay/landing gear. Get 2 of those German air to air rockets from a AR-234 kit so you have one under each wing. Get 3 of these kit....one for the paint job you did, another in 2 tone grey and the last one in natural metal. And put some kill markings on the tail for a different Luftwaffe '46 set of markings.
    Started buying/building aircraft kits in all 3 scales back in '74, along with some armor in 1/32, but mainly 1/35 scale. Just got back into modeling a year or so ago, but this time it's 1/35 scale zombie/apocalypse dioramas. I know if I need a break from them, hello Luftwaffe '46. Like having a couple of different Luftwaffe '46 aircraft on display for the German public to ooh and awe at while Germany celebrates it's victory of winning WW 2. Maybe even have some destroyed/captured Allied aircraft on display, like the P-80 & Meteor.

    Yes it does need a lot of work to look right and you did an awesome job with the paint job. I guess I have a soft spot for his aircraft and since this kit is the only game in town that deals with the subject I have to say I have bought several of which I have started and using the kit sprues I add extra details. My painting isn’t as good as yours though so thank you for sharing the built

    I live in Russia. And i'm sorry for my bad english.
    This model kit is very old. Before crush USSR - i can build only models, which was made in Soviet Union. Quality this kits was not high... And i think - all models, which was made not on territory of USSR - ALL (!!!) very good... I was very mistaken. But after 1992 year in our shops we could find kits made in many other countries. It turned out that poor-quality models and even worse done abroad, too... And ihis FW-183 from Turkish "PM-Models" - is still that heap of shit.
    I built this model back in 1995... Impressions - not from pleasant.
    But you, author, make is good !!!

  • @petercavellini3232

    In all it’s an amazing design, although the Kit was crap,from an amateur point of view I’d be happy enough, after allowing for the fact it never flew, the War ended before any more of Hitlers wonder weapons appeared, so an accurate, well detailed inside and out model would be at best a guesstimate.

    • @TheWaggishAmerican
      @TheWaggishAmerican  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily. Paint and unit schemes, sure, but extensive blueprints were available on a lot of the 'paper' designs. Maybe they wouldn't have matched a production variant, but we KNOW what the cockpit most likely would have looked like- this thing was one of the closer paper planes to being realized, and the drawings are quite extensive. I think they even found a wooden mockup too. It just burns me when you compare this travesty to Dragon- they've got one that is detailedto the max in this scale.

  • @rongray8416
    @rongray8416 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I also have this kit but in my case the body halves fit very ice but the wings...OMG!!! are horrible...they are 2 different thicknesses 1 being fatter than the other, and the profile of each wing is different. With this issue keeping the build at a stand still I decided I'm going to resin cast one of the wings to get a match set and possibly add extra detail later, Definitely going to scratch build a better cockpit and wheel tubs and maybe build some brass landing gear since the plastic ones lack detail and are flimsy at best

    • @TheWaggishAmerican
      @TheWaggishAmerican  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly? This kit is not worth that much work. Just in cost alone, if you want a good one in this scale throw this thing in the trash and grab the Dragon one. It's pricey, but probably not more expensive than this project you are describing plus much less frustrating.

    • @rongray8416
      @rongray8416 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheWaggishAmerican lol Your probably right but I was thinking on the el cheapo ways for casting a new wing and scratch building the landing gear tubs more of a practice/modeling exercise than anything (Add the fact I've already got most of the materials)so no real cost on outlay of cash...besides I cant really mess it up more than it already is haha

    Is it even worse than Eastern Express Devoitine? Still could not bring myself to finish it, that flimsy part at the bottom with the wheel wells openings is just awful. At least this one seems solid, if crude.

    • @TheWaggishAmerican
      @TheWaggishAmerican  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Overall, I think that the Devoitine is actually a better model. Even given it's structural problems, at least the landing gear have some form of pin- these gear are basically butt-joined, and it is a VERY weak bond. Even though it costs way more, if you want on e of these for any reason i'd have to say just get the Dragon one.

    Me, as a Turkish, feel ashamed by PM models. I mean those details, those decals... They are pretty cheap though but I would prefer building 1 detailed kit instead of 3 undetealied kits. They can be good as a test model which you test every kind of weathering, paintinth techniques etc. Nice paintjob btw.

    • @burakt16
      @burakt16 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am Turkish as well. Unfortunately, Turks are always ashamed from the work they done. So they choose not to take it any further. This is like an illness called complex of inferiority. In Turkish : Asagilik kompleksi. This kit has been made with a very minimal technical equipment. Without cad modeling, without cnc machining. For that time, it was okay and reasonable. PM model is an effort with minimal abilities to make Turkish kids meet and love modeling as a hobby and at that point, it is a success story. We all have built PM models when we were kids or when we had less money to buy more expensive model kits. In 90's, only PM models were available at most of the country. So, you may criticize the model in terms of detail, quality etc but I don't see any reason to be ashamed here.

    • @uha6477
      @uha6477 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@burakt16 Damned straight! I don't see anything wrong with this kit. You get what you pay for, and can get far more expensive resin kits that are actually worse than this. If anyone has any of these PM Ta-183 kits they think they'd rather give away then I'll happily have them.

    • @TheWaggishAmerican
      @TheWaggishAmerican  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a terrible kit, that I built in a very short amount of time as a break from other things. I wasn't trying to make a masterpiece, I mostly just wanted to get this box out of my stash so that I could get on too something else. Also, it was for a groupbuild that had a very limited time-range. Plus, I wanted to show the kit as it is. Technically, I didn't 'simplify' it- I just built it as-is, even if as-is is trash. If you want to see me add detail to a bad kit, check out my B-17 and Type 94 video- I built an entire radio room for the -17, and basically scratch-built the entire interior of the 94.

    • @TheWaggishAmerican

      It's really down to price and subject imo. PM makes a lot of stuff that the 'big' manufacturers simply never will, and they are cheap as all else to boot.
      And I would contest the idea that they are the 'worst' company- Czech Models is REALLY poor. Their resin is *okay*, but the injection elements of their kits remind me of the old school wood block models.
