      What happened to the regulation pause of 2 seconds, For Present arms & Shoulder arms. Those FN rifles were much better than the toys the Guards carry on their shoulders nowadays with the rubber coverings

    Today is the 26th June 2023. The First Trooping The Colour of King Charles lll was just over a week ago. The Comparison between this 1987 Parade & the 2023 Parade is quite shocking, only 6 Companies of Foot Guards, the Massed Regimental Bands of the Guards numbering about 250, the Mounted Band of The 2 Cavalry Regiments 1/2 the size & the Cavalry Regiments are 1/2 the number of Troopers. Frightening the Numbers have been cut back so much, but are still expected to do the same Job. A whole new level of respect to these Serving Units, God Bless you all!

      @@mario2849 Hello Mario! Yes! even in the 3 Years between 1984 & 1987 there's a decrease in Numbers, but between 1987 & 2023, there are a Huge Reduction in Numbers. It's quite sobering when you consider that these Troops all belong to the Household Division, The Scarlet Tunic & Bearskin Helmets of the Guards, 5 Regiments that form the Footguards, the Infantry part & the Mounted Band & 2 Regiments of the Cavalry being the Mounted part of the Household Division. There is also the Kings Royal Troop of Artillery, they are not part of the Household Division, but they are attached to it & perform Ceremonial Duties only. The Cavalry Regiments are the oldest Continual Serving Regiments in the British Army. The Blues & Royals (Blue Tunics & Red Plumed Helmets) & the Lifeguards (Scarlet Tunics & White Plumed Helmets) are Mechanised Reconnaissance Units, Prince Harry served with The Blues & Royals. They spend half a year on Pubic Duty & half a year on Active Service & have served since 1980 in N Ireland, Bosnia, the Falklands, the Gulf War, Afghanistan, Iraq, the Balkans. They were also deployed in Germany as part of the NATO Forces. The 5 Infantry Regiments of the Household Division are The Grenadier Guards, the Coldstream Guards, The Scots Guards, The Irish Guards & The Welsh Guards. They are the ones you see Changing Guard at Buckingham Palace & St James Palace & at Clarence House in London & Windsor Castle at Windsor. They also Guard the Tower of London, but there's no Tourist Ceremony to Watch. They also have a 50/50 Ceremonial (Public Duties) & Active Service Split, but it's different than the Cavalry. Each of the Regiments have a 1st Battalion with some having a 2nd Battalion. The Irish Guards for example, have 1 Battalion & Several Companies who handle Ceremonial & other Duties. Recently, they have been deployed in Wiltshire, training Ukrainian Conscripts & also Afghanistan as part of the UN Force. Each 1 of the Regiments also has a Regimental Band, who provide Musical Support for the Guard Changes & they are who Form the Massed Bands at Trooping The Colour & other Ceremonies. In fact, The Trooping the Colour Parade, is the Household Divisions Gift to the Monarch, on the Official Birthday of the Monarch. What you saw in 2023, the 6 Companies of the 5 Regiments Infantry Regiments is Virtually all the Troops left in the UK, the remaining Servicemen are on Active Duty Overseas. Thee Guard Duty in London & Windsor, are usually Mounted by other Army Regiments or other Service Personnel, from the RAF or RN.
      The Sad truth is that Successive Governments have made Cutback after Cutback to the Defence Force, but Promise more & more Support to UN & NATO Forces around the World. It's been said that if another Event like The Falkland War happened, the UK wouldn't have the Logistics or the Personnel to Respond.
      Frightening Really.

    I never grew up with the SLR rivals but man they looked really good, even as an American. It would make more sense if they used an old fashioned looking gun for ceremonial duties, like how we use this M14s in honor guards (or guard of honor). The new guns are fine but an old gun just fits ceremonial duties better than a modern gun.

    I've gotten flak before for not knowing why the Coldstream Guards always form up either first (when they troop their colour) or last (when they aren't).
    Of course I know better now, but why is 1987 the only example where the Coldstream Guards are in the middle? Why are the Irish Guards behind them?

    • @delvinrodriguez3341
      @delvinrodriguez3341 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Alexander Shekhtman The Coldstream Guards have usually been the one's who form the angle on parade, but the reason we see them as the last today and not in the middle (like in this parade). Is because the Guards have been downsized, they went from 8 Guards in the 1980s to now 6 Guards, leaving the Coldstream as last when not Trooping their Colour. If you see Trooping the Colour now usually the Coldstream Guards are last, as there's no more 7 or 8 Guards making them the last. I don't know the exact reason as why the Irish Guards are last on this parade. Hopes this helps! I do apologize if it doesn't make sense!

    • @AlexSh789
      @AlexSh789 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@delvinrodriguez3341 - No need to apologize, it does make sense. The parade was downsized from 8 to 6 Guards in 1993.
      According to what I was told, however, the reason that the Coldstream Guards always form up either first or last is that it's symbolic of them being "Second to None" (Nulli Secundus). And yet, 1987 is the *only* example I could find where they aren't first or last. If the downsizing happened in 1993, surely there ought to be other such examples, right?
