We’re your hosts Brynn Rumfallo and Kelsey Millar and this week's episode is the dark truth about dance studios. Dance has obviously been our entire lives - we danced together as toddlers, we competed at Club Dance Studio with Alexa Moffett, Brynn was on Dance Moms, and now we’re both teaching dance as adults. In this week’s episode, we talk about all the good, the bad, and the ugly that came from dancing competitively in our childhood and more importantly, how it’s affected us as adults.

It was definitely Kelli picking Jaycee! I was so surprised when Brynn mentioned no one was happy for her getting Best Dancer on The Dance Awarenes. Brynn, if you're reading this, know that there were hundreds of people rooting for you! Enter One was an iconic dance. Kelsey, I just got to know you this year since your podcast and you have such a lovely energy!
sameeeee, i think it is really Kelli favoring Jaycee and I just noticed that Brynn has always been Alexa's favorite.... but i feel sad about this because I thought that at least Jenna and Bostyn are her genuine friends...
Another thing to mention is how the cost of dance plays a big factor in what opportunities a dancer gets. I was at great dance company for a couple years, and was constantly worried about if my teammates were secretly making judgements about the clothes i wore, the fact that i couldn’t stay in the nicest hotels, or that i was in the minimum amount of dances bc i couldn’t afford to be in more. I felt like I was behind everyone else not only bc i started dancing way later, but also bc they were able to afford to take extra classes and continue to excel
it totally messes with your head as a kid when you work so hard for something and especially when you're like 9, you're expecting everyone to be proud and excited for you and mirror your emotions. That shit is legit traumatic. I'm sorry you went through that, Brynn.

My daughter left Club Dance for Freshman year because of one teacher who refused to call her by her name. It was always “hey you” and it pissed me off to end. Club was the best thing to happen to her in AZ.

It’s sad that a lot of the shows representations are actually things that happened inside of popular studios such as club dance. It’s one of most profound dance studios so to hear, favoritism, jealousy, shit-talking about children is so sad. I’m glad that you Kelsey are able to be as strong as you are now. I definitely understand what it’s like to feel like the second girl and it’s such a motivator but also such as a self esteem downer. Thank you for being open enough to share your story. Brynn I’m so happy you were able to block out the social media comments and I feel like they started coming after the show and it’s upsetting even seen them now, but to hear how you block them out and don’t let go to you is so incredible. Thank you guys! I definitely want to see momma Ashlee on the show!!! Do you guys accept questions on the TH-cam podcasts comments?

I know everyone knows you from dance moms but I remember you from dancingwithyt and prepro era! I must’ve watched underneath the Xmas tree dance SO many times at the time. I remember being so confused as to why my dancer body would not look like your guys’ and looking back, that makes me me wonder now, if there were a lot of Ed’s around you guys even at such a young age and how you guys dealt with it or reacted to it when friends struggled, or was it kinda just an unspoken about hush hush topic? Loving your podcast ❤️

Idk how I found this podcast but I’m glad I did!
literally good for you ladies for teaching such little kids. Especially 2!? That's like my biggest fear LOL. I like freeze when little kids cry and don't want to be in class, I just don't even how to handle the situation LOL. The youngest full class I had was a 9-11 and I still felt I was tiptoeing on eggshells afraid to do or say anything wrong and upset anybody lol.

this question is for both of you, but was it a natural decision for you to pursue teaching dance rather than auditioning as a professional for theatre/film/etc? Do you feel burnt out in regards to performing after performing so much as kids? Or do you plan to pursue teaching and performing?
My moms a dance teacher! It's so cool to have your parent be your teacher!
Not every dance teacher has favorites! I run a dance studio in LA county for 25 years. And fired three teachers for having favorites. I've never had favorites myself and I didn't allow my teachers to have favorites. Having favorites is very damaging to everybody including the favorite.
Why including the favorite ? 🤔 It’s a luck being a favorite.

heyy! how do you guys or other dancers deal with periods? i remember feeling super embarrassed and ashamed like nobody else in the room had theirs 💀

Every child who takes dance has the right to have a good experience. And that is the responsibility of the director of the studio. The director of the studio is in charge of the teachers and she is the one who needs to make sure the teachers treat every child as if they are all special. Every child who walked in and out of my studio special. And it really bothers me that you two girls did not have that experience. And that you think all dance studios are like that and all dance teachers are like that. This is not true. There are a lot of good dance studios out there like mine who treat every child special.

are there any specific incidents where dance "rivalries" effected your friendships with other dancers? and are you still in touch with any of the girls from your old dance teams, like jaycee, bostyn, etc?

Brynn, do you still talk to any of the girls? On the show, you were pretty portrayed as not liking any of them except MacKenzie and Lilliana. But Mckenzie left and Lilliana many years younger. So as far as the rest of the girls did yall just never hang out talk outside of filming and it just stayed that way?
