This is great....! I think we are in similar spots, coming from vsts like Diva, back to appreciation for hardware. I just got a Pro-1 and part of me didn't want it to sound "more real" than Diva, because of how I'd sold myself on diva before... But it does, little doubt.
Anyway.. I am just getting my hardware setup going, but what I do is: use ableton as my clock master, and send midi out to the rd-8 (which has its clock set to external).. Then the rd-8 has a clock sync cable to the td-3, as well as a midi thru to the pro-1 (so I can trigger midi clips from my launchkey pads). This way there aren't two machines calculating bpm, just the daw. It's less "dawless" than your setup, with your hw sequencer and all that, but maybe you could still do similar?

Thanks Dave, glad to hear you like it.
Yup, it's funny how software is 95% there in terms of sound. But the magic happens in that last 5%.
That's a pretty good strategy you've got there. Gonna try something similar. See if I can get some of my timing issues ironed out. Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated!
I wouldn't worry too much about "how DAW-less something is, or isn't". As far as I'm concerned it is all about not doing everything with mouse and keyboard. And make decisions without looking at the screen.
I mean, fancy pants hardware sequencers are just as digital as Ableton or Renoise. It's just they have physical buttons you interact with. But under the hood they're just computers.
Even using something like your lauchkeys is a huge leg up already in terms of breaking away from the screen.
Anyway, welcome to the hardware synth world. Have fun making music!

Just call it a polyrhythm lol (i have no constructive suggestions, I feel your pain when it comes to doing any recording... it's always SOMETHING!)

Thanks gogo! Yup, it is always something indeed. Such is the joy of analog.
