  • @anaxagoras9812
    @anaxagoras9812 ปีที่แล้ว +76

    There's a visual hierarchy that should be respected in any drawing. The primary forms are always the most important. Basically when you simplify an arm to a simple cilinder, you make the process easier of establishing the gesture and size relationships of the whole arm before you add any details on top. Any secondary form (bicep, tricep, forearm, deltoid, etc) built on top of a poorly constructed primary form will look off no matter how well you try to draw it.
    If you see videos of pro artists going in drawing the muscles straight away, they are still thinking of the gesture and basic structure of something in the back of their mind and they design those muscles to support the gesture of the primary form. It's not something a beginner or even an intermediate artists can pull off without lots of practice.
    Use measuring techniques like plumb lines to fix mistakes when drawing from reference and if you're drawing from imagination as a beginner, always have a proportions chart next to you so you can see the proportions of an idealistic figure to rely on.
    In figure drawing, proportions and gesture are what's taught first before anatomy and shading because they're fundamental concepts.

  • @billastoriofkaferedaki
    @billastoriofkaferedaki ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Just what I needed. I tended to make too many anatomy details cuz I learned stuff in the wrong order. Drawing has a benefit that other skills don't have,and that is,by "copy and paste" irl to paper,you get good with time and effort. So simple yet something not many do. Thank you for opening my eyes once more.

    i'm capable of proportions and detailed rendering, but i might have jumped too far on the journey. so although i can do it, i am too slow, too stressed and overcomplicating my life to the point drawing is less of a free creative activity, and more of a chore.
    I noted every step, both in the lvl1 to 100 video you made, and also here. i will then start from scratch focusing on what i need to master.
    hopefully ill find joy in drawing again, thank you for your efforts in making these!

    this is probably the hardest advice for me to grasp at the moment -- others have said the same, about getting the general outline and break it down into basic shapes, but I still gotta work on getting my brain used to seeing things as shapes, let alone replicate proportions well that way. Learning building blocks and anatomy has made it click better in my mind, but silhouettes and copying what I see is a skill I very much have to work on :P Thanks for the great vid as always!

  • @plswatchinfinitytrain
    @plswatchinfinitytrain ปีที่แล้ว +65

    Helpful tip for beginners: try to use a single, dynamic line for everything (instead of scribbling multiple lines on top of each other like in the video).
    That way it's going to be easier to memorize the shapes and to do the lineart afterward!
    The scribbling method works for marcel bc he's been drawing for decades but it will probably make things harder for you :)

    • @zenith8417
      @zenith8417 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      And his lines arent “scribbling” cuz they’re not diverting away from the anatomy or proportions. You can see multiple artists do the same with construction lines
      And another essential tip, dont lift the pen/brush quickly near the end of a line. You can see Marcel do this sometimes for detail but for the most part his pen is on the paper and doesnt lift until the line is fully complete, not nearly complete, lifting too early will cause curves at the end and mess with the lines direction. This is a bad side effect brought on from writing fast

    Also, are micron pens better than dip pens?😅

    • @exculleq
      @exculleq ปีที่แล้ว +1

      instead of starting with anime proportions and anatomy start with the human anatomy cause you need to know the anatomy so much that you can do changes on it and it wont look bad. I suggest you to start with micron pens because dip pens control management on the paper can be harder than markliners but for now sketch with a basic pencil or a mechanic one the material is dont matter

    btw , life drawing and gesture drawing are kinda different... gesture (pronounced jes-chr) drawing Is a quicker version of life/figure drawing and the point Is to capture the gesture and movement of the pose , but you can go for other goals like proportion , although you should do longer drawings than usual gesture drawings If you want to go for proportions.

    Hi Marcel! I started to draw about one week ago. I'm following your "Learn to draw roadmap" and actually I'm in the anatomy basic step! I'm approaching the anatomy in the whole context, giving a watch also at the details. Actually for this video I'm at the level 1, hope to increase the difficulty in the next days!

    It's unfortunate that not enough people have seen these videos. Great quality. As for payment for the screenshot, I am end of level 1/beginning of level 2.
