    You have had lots of patience with this one and done some really nice work for someone who hates body work. I have seen lots worse come from "professional" body shops. Lots of satisfaction in this project for sure. Thanks for sharing.

    I guess this would be the definition of a total frame-off restoration! Thank you for taking the time to revive this piece of old American iron. It must be so much fun to have the skill to be able to have endless possibilities! I like your choice of engine!

    For someone who hates body work you sure are good at it. Great video and cool car, good work and I especially like the steering column brace. I'd never have thought of that.

    How did the CE Mustang II crossmember kit work for you. I think that's the way to go on the top hat Chevy frames, bolt in, nor welded.

      I like it . Went in easy and has held up great !

    What rear end suspension did you use? Did it work well? Hard to install? Any spring wrap, wheel hop, etc?

    • @chevahaulic
      @chevahaulic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it was a kit , pretty sure from chassis engineering . but it's a leaf spring set up . works well . rides a little stiff . but no wheel hop and handles nice

    i really like your 40, im starting a 1940 2 door myself. its roughly in the same condition as when u started. if you dont mine i have some questions along the way if you could point me in the right direction. Im wondering what rearend did you bolt in, and what kind subframe for the front suspension did you use?.

      sorry for the delay on this , been busy.
      The front end was from Chev's of the 40's . It was a bolt on kit made by chassis engineering using mustang II parts . Was a very nice kit , I went with the adjustable spring hight one . And power rack and pinion . The car drivers great . For the rear end , I up graded to the spring hangers and springs from Chev's of the 40's . And hung a ford 9" out of a early 60's pick up . But a mustang or bronco would work as well I believe . I did a lot of reading before buying the front end . Lots of people said not to weld to the "hat" style frame these cars have . I guess there prone to cracking if welded on . So thats why I went with the bolt on kit .

    Great work. I have to ask. is it worth it. I'm looking at picking up a 1941 deluxe coupe for a steal. looks to have the same lower rot. should I go for it?

    • @chevahaulic
      @chevahaulic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +William Vanorden well , was it worth it for me . Yes . I knew going in to that project it was going to be involved . But in the end , it's what i wanted . Was it a good investment , thats a hard one to say . I could of found one in way better shape to save time . I did all the labor , but if i had to pay someone to do all the body repair and suspension . Then i would say no . I have a ton of time wrapped up into the car , and it's not even painted .
      so , it depends on your skill level and what your plans are for the car . if i had the chance to do it all over , i'd still do it .

    • @williamvanorden4700
      @williamvanorden4700 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +chevahaulic. I believe it will be worth it. I have a lot of hands on old school mechanisms. plus I grew up around a tig and stick. I thank you for your response and just was going to ask you Would you rebuild the stock engine and front end of you wanted an almost complete orginal/ratrod.

    • @chevahaulic
      @chevahaulic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      if it were me , i wouldn't rebuild the stock engine . If you want it to be a 6 , find one from the late 50's to into the 60's . But , the 6's aren't as cheap to rebuild as a small block . The V8's fit nicely , and go a bit faster ... lol
      for the front end , king pins and lever shocks are old ideas . A mustang 2 kit will handle and ride a lit better . Along with disc brakes . But it depends what your'll going to build . A stock show car , an old school hot rod , something to get ice cream in or to take on long rides . I built mine to be something out of the mid 60's . If i was a car guy in that time frame . With of course some modern safety like brakes , tires and 12 volt system . Some people call it a rat rod , others a traditional hot rod . but i built it to drive . And it's a blast
