    This is by far the best review of any bike I have heard of...fully comprehensive details the all others forget, and all this in family friendly language... Well done !!

    great review. I've been looking at upgrading, i was considering the versys 650 (or possibly 1000) but the multistrada 950 is now next on my list for a test drive!

      man I was considering the new v strom 1050 but I suddenly realised there's a smaller ducati than the big multistrada that actually offers a lot of value

    I live in Spain and have just come back from a local motorbik dealer not knowing anything about this bike! Whilst window shopping I saw this machine and it stood out a mile! Such a beautiful bike.
    The shop also had an Africa twin, a v Strom and this Ducati, and after your review and doing some research, it is not too expensive to own! That's the shock!!!

    I am surprised at the reasonable service prices for a Ducati ... and even more surprised that someone actually took the time to post that information. Thank you for that! Perhaps, I shall consider one in the future. Lovely machine, for sure.

    Picked mine up today, your videos on this model went along way in helping me decide. Not that I needed a push to get a Duke. Scotland tours on the cards for this summer. Might avoid the NC500 in the school holidays though. Keep up the good work.

    Really enjoy these - I do think that these reviews in the manner and format you do them are the most useful reviews of any bike on the web. Much appreciated! What a fantastic bike, the Multistrada looks like a hawk from the side and front - just beautiful.

    Thanks for all your reviews. Incidentally, I discovered the 950 with this video... and bought a 2017 model couple of weeks ago. I love it!
    The LCD display blinded me as well - so I dimmed it down to solve that problem at night. Super easy BTW.

    Superb review. I know this was for the multistrada. I purchased the 2015 hyperstrada. I wanted the hypermotard sp but ultimately went with the strada becasue of the touring addition and I got a great deal on a used one with only 6k miles.

    Such a good real life review. All the things you don't see in other reviews are covered here, like filling up the fuel, washing the bike, etc. Very nice bike indeed, a shame its so expensive, even secondhand.

    Thanks for the review. One thing I didn't hear was any mention of heat when your driving in traffic or around town. I've heard this mentioned from others but not sure that it's a big issue or not. Trying to decide between this and an XR. My commute is very urban so a lot of heat might make a difference for me. Thanks again!

    13:10 I have a 2015 MTS/S with panniers and a topbox... I have to say they are Brilliant. So easy to use. I also have the optional pannier/topbox soft cases... gives you the option of leaving the hard cases on the bike.

    I'll never understand why manufacturer's insist on turning off low-beam when high-beam is turned on. My S1000R is no different, and owners have spent a lot of time and effort figuring out how to override this functionality.

    As someone mentioned which side to park the bike at petrol pumps, it reminded me of our different habits when wheeling a bike around. I see you, like most, stand at the nearside with the side stand down. After dropping a bike or two in my early years i turned to standing at the offside. Less chance of tripping on the extended side stand, and if the balance tips away from you, you can rest the bike back into its side stand 👏. Maybe I'm paranoid!

    Nice review. I specially like how you broke down the estimated expenses, saving people that are thinking of buying the bike quite a bit of homework. I always enjoy watching your videos and very often learn something new from them even when, as in this case, it's about a type of bike I'm not actually interested in.
    Happy 2018!

    I thought that the Multistrada was going to be the perfect bike for me…until I rode it. I almost bought one yesterday and thankfully, the owner let me ride it. I wasn’t a fan of the “sit on” feeling of the bike vs my typical “sit in” bikes that I’ve formally owned. I also felt as if my junk kept creeping forward into the narrow crook of the seat which I also was not a fan of. The one I tested was a 2016 1200. It sounded superb. However, getting on and off with the top bag on was almost impossible. My intent was to sell my Triumph Thunderbird Commander and HD XR1200 to get one bike. I guess I’ll be keeping them until that perfect do all bike comes around.

    Great review, Flyer! I like the motorcycle. When you were riding at night I noticed just how bright the screen is. It made me come up with an idea and I think all manufacturers should do this. I think it would be thoughtful for them to have a night time cover on the LCD screen with squares or circles or area's that only show you what you need to see instead of just the whole screen. I think you should push these manufacturers to do this. I also think you should push the ones who don't have lit up switch gear to light them up. It's old technology. It's easy to do and doesn't draw a lot of current. You are the man to get them to make this change! Happy New Year, Flyer!

    As usual a great review, thanks.
    I own a 2016 Multistrada 1200 S and it has all the cons of the 950 covered i.e. illuminated switches, day/night instrument display, dedicated mode switch etc and that single sided swing arm and exhaust is just so sexy.
    You have got to ride the latest version, chalk and cheese compared to the last one you tested.
    Thanks again for all your “hard work” and wish you and your family all the best for 2018, Cheers from South Africa, Cape Town

    Totally agree about the headlights, easier to leave them on dipped. You can adjust the LCD brightness in the menu to reduce the glare though. I rode across Europe in September last year, about halfway with a pillion. No issues with the seat, although my pillion was quite petite!

    I have owned one since last April, for 4k miles so far, and I can agree with everything you said - including the vibrations wearing a dual-sport helmet. I was actually watching to see how much you'd trust this bike off-tarmac with just road tires. In my experience, hard dirt roads are fine, even if there's a bit of mud, but I'm not very experienced (and thus not very confident) when it comes to off-roading. I'd be going slow and I'd be wearing gear, so I'm not afraid of getting hurt, but I am afraid of ruining my pristine bike with a drop due to loss of traction... :)

    Always enjoy watching your reviews, but a couple of things I noticed which would be really useful to include, especially if thinking about this bike as a potential purchase - what is it like to ride, i.e. what is the throttle response like, how does it track round corners, what is the suspension like on standard settings, and also more practical points such as what kind of adjustment is there on the shock/forks, is there a remote preload adjuster making it easy when adding pillion/luggage. Also, interesting in terms of how the bikes' work in the wet, so much of this depends on the tyre choice, so perhaps include something about the standard fitment tyre and how good it is in the dry/wet. Obviously these will relevant to the bike on test, but for me would just add that extra detail. Look forward to the next test and review!!

    Happy New Year Mr F. As ever a great review, I wish some motorcycle journalists would be half as professional! One of the biggest factors in cost of ownership of running a newish bike is depreciation. Difficult to quantify with a new model but if possible look at 1yr/2yr old used prices as a guide, generally if big discounts are available when new a bike won't hold it's value very well.

    Yet another enjoyable and thorough review. Most reviews seem to focus in one aspect or another for a given bike. Yours seem to be the most comprehensive. Great job.
    It would be an even greater review if you could go into more detail when it comes to pillions (when applicable). Although the seats might look comfortable, there are other things to consider with pillion riders (for example, balance, handling, suspension, etc...) I realize you might not have a "volunteer" available, but maybe something to consider for future reviews.

    Another great review up to your now very high standard. As a ex bike owner and someone due to fly to Australia for a 7 week bike tour with my brother next Sunday, on his and now a 2005 R1200 RT for me, and someone who has watched with interest your love affair with your R1200 GS, I was waiting for a direct comparison between the Ducati MS 950 and your current GS and to know if given the choice again now which you would buy. I am still struggling to decide on an RT or a GS when I return in March. Looking forward to your reviews during my 7 weeks away.

    Servicing costs, on the 1200 the big services 15k cost a minimum of £1250. Plus leaving it a year between services is too long. So the bike will be hanging if you ride it all year around. Best to get an interim oil and fluids change too (6 months) and a check of bearings and regreasing. This is based on my experience and a friend of mines who owns one too.

    Hello again MissendenFlyer, I congratulate you for your channel, has very good tests. Thank you for helping us learn more about motorcycles. As always I have a question. Because I just went by in front of the Ducati store and I could not resist getting up and entering. I saw the Multiestrada 950 just like yours and I really liked its appearance.
    The question: The seat heats up as much as the 1200?
    Because I had the opportunity to try the 1200 and driving in the city the seat was heated and it was unbearable.
    Thanks........

    Hello again MissendenFlyer,
    I already tried the Ducati Multiestrada 950. I liked this bike. And I think it's one that I'm going to buy soon. Truly the handlebar vibrates, but it is supported. What I do notice is that the digital dashboard dances with the vibrations ... hahaha ... The engine heats up a lot but what reaches the seat can be supported as you told me. The Ducati sound makes it clear, but when you accelerate thoroughly it sounds like a lion roaring ...... ..The curves binds them very well ... for me the set is pretty good .......

    Everybody says that Vstrom 1000 has an old school speedo and info panel but this LCD screen on Ducati might seem modern but like you said that night mode is just a display that might distract a driver and is not done right.
    I also did not like when sitting on a 950 that the rear brake is moved more close to the engine and I had to turn my feet more inside to have a good grip.

    I have the 1200 MTS and I've never used the rear brake pedal because it is so awkward to reach. I'll probably end up making a new one with a longer foot rest.

    Have you thought about reviewing the Multistrada V2S? I’m test riding one in a couple of weeks as a potential replacement for my 1250GS and Speed Twin 1200 - the Holy Grail of managing with just one bike that is a bit lighter, practical for touring, and fun for rideouts.

      @@TheMissendenFlyer I can’t find that one? I found your review of the Multistrada V4 , the Streetfighter V and the Multistrada 950, but not the Multistrada V2S, which is an upgrade of the 950. The new model has dealt with several of your criticisms of that bike (eg lowering kit, TFT, illuminated switches, quickshifter,). Subsequent to posting this reply I tried the V2S. Loved it, except the height (I’m about the same height as you). The dealer didn’t have a low version or even a low seat to try, so I’m going to another dealer who has agreed to get a low seat for test rides, acknowledging that not all motorcyclists are more than 5’ 10”! Thanks for all your excellent reviews.

    One of the issues our local garage will not let us do is fill the bike with petrol while sitting on it due to a biker spilling petrol onto a hot engine and setting the whole station pump and roof on fire.

    Very interesting in depth review as usual ! Your video gave me the idea that I could trade in my Tiger 800 for a brand new MS950. TMF, awesome review as always. I must admit the pillion was a question unanswered....not in a bad way, but things going through my mind were; leg bend, pressure point on back of legs (pillion seat has a noticeable higher edge to pilot seat). Finally how do the panniers sit with the pillion legs space. being a multi bike, for me these are considerations. Time to press gang Mrs TMF :) I'll leave you with this one...lol. P.S Blade sold me my triumph tiger XRT 2016 (Swindon) and Ducati xDiavel (Abingdon), can't recommend them enough!

    Had one of these for a couple of hours, lovely bike, BUT the biggest issue for me(and I see you did not mention this at Negative points) was the heat generated by the engine. In stop-start traffic on warmer days (above 25celsius) it’s absolutely unbearable. Did you not notice that?

    Good revue Pal, a few things though, Ducati did the back lit switches before anyone else with the 1200 MTS DVT. There where issues with the headlights fogging up with condensation which has been a Ducati issue since the late eighties. I test rode one of these along with the Supersport at the Ducati roadshow at Preston Ducati. I found the motor revvy and vibratory compared to my ST3S/ABS. How did you find the rear brake? Usually the rear cylinder exhaust boils the fluid making the brake pedal feel dead. Still a nice bike mind with the cachet of Ducati ownership you won't see a lot of them in a carpark on a Sunday bike meet which is always good. Unfortunately the new Tracer 900 GT has killed this bike as it will be on par if not cheaper in price, has panniers, TFT screen, cruise control, a belting motor and I would imagine without being presumptuous be just as comfortable.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but like all premium brands people buy into the whole Ducati ownership thing (like I did) - it may be illogical but it is a fact! I found the back brake OK - nothing special but no worse than any other I've tried....

    • @thedarrendasher8134
      @thedarrendasher8134 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That generalism is just utter nonsense Man, I've owned LC 350s as a youngster and toured on them, I've an FJ1200 with 93,000 miles on it so it can't be that uncomfortable, owned Super Teneres and two FJR1300s and find them very comfortable indeed. I also have three Ducatis which are also comfortable. So if something like an FJR1300 is uncomfortable for you I can only summise that you ride a reclining settee, perhaps a shez lounge or maybe a hammock? Pfft.......

    • @Banditmanuk

      The Darren Dasher Think you are spot on, the new Tracer GT will be a great bike, I've ridden the old Tracer and owned a 2011 Multi. As for the guy who says Yamahas (all??) Are uncomfortable...... complete rubbish. I've done big miles on my 250LC in the 80s and tour on my MT10
      Never could keep a back brake on my Multi

    • @thedarrendasher8134
      @thedarrendasher8134 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Tracer is a cracking bike Bandit, no doubt. Having ridden both the Multi 950 and 2016 Tracer I 'd have to say the Tracer GT will have the edge because of its equipment level and price. Every bloody Duke I've owned or test ridden has had a useless rear brake. The three I own have useless rear brakes too. Drain out the fluid, fill and bleed with new and it's great for a few week then the pedal goes to crap again. The fluid just gets too hot being near the rear cylinder exhaust. If only they built an MT10 Tracer, I'd have one tomorrow. That motor is a peach!

    • @Banditmanuk
      @Banditmanuk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Darren Dasher MT10 is the best bike I've ever owned I'm comfortable even being 6ft 3" love the way it goes! It's biggest issue as far as touring is it's big thirst and little 17L tank. Got blaze panniers, a top box and tank bag and just plan to stop every 100 to 110 miles
