  • LEGO released a new major update for Powered Up with 4.0.2, it has some really new things and I explain in this video why I don't recommend you to install this update, and what you can do to change things.

    Update 6/24/2023 - LEGO released the 4.0.3 version that removes the bug with the hidden blocks and you will see the basic complexity by default, all other blocks are hidden. They also updated the release notes of 4.0.2 to indicate the interface change.
    Update 8/1/2023 - LEGO released their documentation for the updated code blocks, you can find it here - www.lego.com/en-us/service/help/power_functions/lego-powered-up-programming-blocks-kA06N000000g04eSAA

    Dear Balazs, unfortunately the Powered Up app updated itself without asking any permission. I don't think there is a way to go back... but in case you have an idea about it, let us know! Your online guide is certainly the most valuable thing we've all had to program our LEGO motors and sensors!

    I've been avoiding sets that use Powered Up app. I don't like when Lego integrates other technologies and eventually abandones them, like what happened to Lego Dimensions.

  • @blockpartyrobotleague
    @blockpartyrobotleague ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I share the frustration; thankfully it looks like I managed to avoid my app auto-updating to the latest version.
    On top of this, Lego has apparently stopped stocking motors in their stores. I'm genuinely wondering if we might see Powered Up being discontinued within the next couple of years.

    Those "hidden blocks" are so useful :D Mabye Abs. Positioning is available now, that would be great.
    If I remember correctly LCC are data array blocks.

    I hated the upgrade so much that I've re-installed the previous version from a package on one of those dodgy sites that makes you certain your personal data is going to be in the hands of an evil hacker before you've even finished the install.

    Yep this definitely looks like an accidental release to me. Or that they had to rush out a bug fix but were halfway through changing the interface. Either way it’s very sloppy!

    It’s a shame about these issues with the powered up app, I feel the system has so much potential if it was fully developed… Thank you for your time so far in trying to solve some of the information gaps and issues.
    Whilst they might remove the update, I am not sure how much bombarding Lego customer service will do to change these issues in the long run, I think there are maybe not many people buying control + sets that will use such an app or even know it’s existence, instead they will rely on the control+ app - which is perfectly usable unless you need to build an MOC.

    I think we are a couple of years away from Lego going back to a power functions based system. Maybe a new battery box but i think the motors and connections will be going back to that.

    I always get excited when LEGO releases a new Powered Up or remote controlled set. Rarely happens these days, maybe for reasons similar to this situation. I’d like to buy the RS Q E-tron, but not if these issues plague the play experience.

    I find it very intresting that lego has done this. Its unexpected release has obviously triggered some major confusion and frustration throughout the community. But Lego as we know is a very trustworthy company (although they have done this a couple of times) I am sure that this will change soon (fingers crossed). Great video and I'm exited for the next one!

    I am in touch with Customer service as I am having problems with connecting Control+ with my D11 set. Brick Controller 2 is having no issues at all and thank God there is an alternative as I would be left with a plain display set. Lego is trying to help but they dont know what is the problem. Didnt try PoweredUp yet but I think Lego should have some guide how to program a set like D11 on your own - a "ready to go" pattern of blocks for everyone to set up, just to use the set. Something like you are doing on this channel for some Control+ models.

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Control+ is "fixed" for a reason, it is a ready-made solution for people who don't want to change anything. The best would be to provide editable profiles for Powered Up where others could tinker the settings, it could also provide a futureproof solution after the set is discontinued.

    Thank you for noting my complain in the video. I think Lego managers should really listen to their customers and I believe they will not make this ugly design upgrade in future app versions or at least they will make it switchable with an opportunity to change it to an old design version. Other way I will use ver 3.11.0 app indefinetly without any future updates. Thank you for your video.

    I have problems entering decimal numbers. I noticed this while trying to chance the motor sensitivity setting. Default, this value is 0,1. On the app there is also real comma (,) shown. The number field only shows a point. Maybe this has nothing to do with each other, but I already tried several other things without luck. There is of course a simple workaround by using a divider, but I find it nonetheless annoying. I'm using an iPhone 14, but I know others on Android have the same problem. I already contacted Lego, and even send a Video, but haven't heard from them yet.
    Does anyone else have this issue, or knows how to solve it?

    I got some powered up elements for my son, having looked at tutorials online beforehand. Now those tutorials do not work. For example, the colour and distance sensor used to have a hand icon to activate it - now we cannot find one or an alternative (If anyone knows how to do this please post below).

    I just got a new phone and so it automatically updated to the newest version, and while they have fixed those ugly graphics it is still very hard to understand and I can’t figure out how to make a custom controler, all the tutorials on TH-cam are outdated, and I tried reverse engineering the offical LEGO controllers that appear when you make one but they all have the old coding blocks! Please could someone make a tutorial because I cannot find the new version of the +/- block and I need that for the controller!

    If it's already updated, you should be able to uninstall it and sideload an earlier version using an APK downloaded from the internet. Unfortunately I do not know which APK archive sites are reliable (and you probably shouldn't be taking the word of a random guy on the internet on that anyway).

  • @MijoDeVelha11

    I think this situation happens due to the level of the palette that we are viewing (beginner - intermediate - advanced). Try to verify that you have a pallet level selected, and that it is not "null". Choosing a suitable palette level, the hidden blocks are again hidden. This situation is only happening in version updates, in fresh installations it doesn't happen from what I was able to find out.

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  ปีที่แล้ว

      This has absolutely nothing to do with the "situation"

    • @MijoDeVelha11
      @MijoDeVelha11 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RacingBrick it solved the problem for me! My default palette level was not defined to any of the 3 available : beginner, intermediate or advanced, leading to the hidden blocks being available. After picking one, the blocks are now hidden.

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I stand corrected, checked it again and you are right. It's a weird bug, but this also means that normally some critical items like the port input selector would be totally missing at any complexity level.

I sent LEGO an email as you suggested. Here's hoping enough people do that they sort the mess out.

    • @RacingBrick

      You need to be more specific, which block are you using? The rounded steering block requires calibration every time you launch it, so it needs endpoints. But this is not new functionality, it works as previously.
