  • This is my second Lego Technic Powered Up Tutorial that focusses on Lego Technic motor speed control using the Powered Up hub and Powered Up programming interface. The Lego Powered Up App is run on a Samsung Android tablet. I demonstrate how to set and control the power level applied to a motor.
Also shown is how to measure the motor speed using the Powered Up built in speed measurement widget. This speed display does not have clear unit values and I show a method for measuring the RPM (revolutions per minute) using an angular position sampling loop.
If you are new to Powered Up programming then watch my first tutorial for an introduction

This is one of very few powered up tutorials, but all it seems to talk about is measuring power. Useful, but there's so much variety in powered up.

Brilliant! There's quite a variety of code blocks, and as you mention some of them can be achieved in alternate, more manual methods. I can see that a tablet would be useful; the real estate on my Android mobile is jammed packed with just tow or three program flows. Looking forward to a possible third installment of this tutorial series. Thx

Thanks, I haven't used powered up before so I was wondering if this was possible. Turns out it's super easy.

Gosh how many dam motors do you have on the intro freaking amazing!!

Yeah good question! It's just an amination - I can make as many as I want! In reality I only have about 10 motors. 🙃🙃

Hello from Canada. Does the Lego train motor incorporate the ability to maintain a constant speed over varying terrain and voltage level? Thanks in advance.

I cant understand but if I add this Tutorial2 functionality to my project from Tutorial1 calculation and display showed wrong value in RPM (was continuous increased over time). But after making new project with same functions as it is in Tutorial2 it is work correctly.. Strange. I have double check - all was same.

I can't believe how much I'm struggling to find an answer to this, but how can I add a stop button that resets the slider to zero. Even when I manually slide it back to the zero position the motor keeps humming. Otherwise making the slider reset to zero when you let go would be just as good for my purpose (want to prevent a vehicle from crashing when a kid drives it). Any ideas?

Figured this out 1 minute after commenting, but going to leave my question to hopefully help anyone else using the same search terms. In the latest version of the powered up app you can go to advanced settings for the slider control (same place you can change the name) and turn on the toggles for "Return to Zero" and "Instant Reset". Problem solved. Feeling very dumb considering all the other options I tried before that :)

I can replace it with a variable value, for example when motor stalls, this reads 0 rpm then reverses or something else

Is it possible to display the battery percentage of the battery box?

Excellent video! If I want to make the lego motorized lighthouse more silent / slow, and I dont want to buy a bluetooth hub (it only comes with a battery box), is there a DIY way to regulate the voltage?

my answer: use a second motor as input for the motor.

What is the highest safe voltage for the hub? Could you run it at 3s

Excelente tutorial! yo abro la aplicación y me aparece un diagrama diferente, puede ser que este haya sido actualizado y no coincide con el que hay ahora en diciembre 2023? saludos!
