  • The most important part of putting in golf is Speed Control. We’re not suggesting that you don’t strive to improve your alignment, stroke mechanics and clubface control. It’s just that, if you want to improve your putting instantly and save strokes on the putting green, then putting with the ideal speed and distance control is your first step.
Learn what is your optimum holing speed. Aussie Golf Pros shows you how to improve your Putting Speed Control and also how to better read the speed of the greens your putting on.
Ex NASA scientist and short game coach to Phil Mickelson, Dave Pelz, writes much about Putting Speed in his book: The Putting Bible. He suggests that every putt should be played with a certain ’holing speed’ in mind. Is Dave Pelz right?

    Golf Coaches, Not Teachers
The Aussie Golf Pros are holistic coaches in every sense of the word. Steve and Glen are both fully qualified members of the PGA of Australia and are avid students of the Sports Sciences. Together, they are certified in Advanced Golf Coaching, Golf Psychology, TPI (Body-Swing Connection), NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), Personal Development and Skill Acquisition.
Steve and Glen are not ‘Method’ coaches. They recognise that there are literally 1000’s of ways to swing a golf club! Rather than try to ‘change’ your swing, their goal is to help You Be The Best Golfer You Can Be!
    Skill Development vs Technical Changes
Although technique is an important factor in improving a golfer’s performance, Skill Development is largely neglected in golf coaching today. Skill is something that can be tangibly improved with proper understanding of the golf impact laws and effective practice towards improved performance.
    External Focus of Attention
Most golf teaching involves an internal focus. Common suggestions might include increased hip turn, a still head or improved hand path. These are all factors of the golf swing, which many golfers and teachers consider important. However, as they are focused internally, on movements of the body, golfers find changes extremely difficult to process.
Enter the world of External Focus of Attention. This means that instead of focusing on body parts, a golfer can and should focus more on the target, the ball, the clubhead - objects which are external to the body. The sciences involving Motor Skill Learning have proven that by employing an External Focus of Attention, sports men and women learn new moves more quickly, retain changes more readily and can perform better under pressure.
All of the Aussie Golf Pros coaching, drills and advice for clients and viewers, involve an External Focus of Attention and the results can be astonishing!

Great to hear you’re understanding your putting better Vik. Good luck improving that speed control.

Excellent content Glen! I usually don't have too much trouble on the greens. Occasionally though, if the greens have dried out because of the Santa Ana conditions here in California, I get fooled. Especially, by the sliding down hillers! Before going out on the course, I try to calibrate my stroke and tempo. Pace is always important and I do get the lip outs caused by too firm a pace. I always liked the pin out when I putted, but because of CoVid, the pin has stayed in and I feel I'm loosing half the hole, thus a lot of missed 3 footers.

Sounds like you’re on the ball John. Having the flag in the cup while putting has been a challenging transition for many of us. Statistically, according to Dave Pelz, it’s supposed to help us marginally. However, I personally have had plenty of golf balls bounce out off the pin. Much does depend on the diameter and material of the flagstick.
      Thanks for your comments.

Fantastic.video Glen, like you I try to die the ball into the hole. I tend to worry about the line and then forget about the speed. Something to work on.

Thanks OzCats. You’ll definitely benefit on the greens if you can make a habit of putting with good ‘holing’ speed. Thank you for your support.

The flaw in the "17" past the hole" theory is that it optimized for holing puts, not minimizing putts. If you try to hit 12" past the hole, you will hole almost as many but three putt less often. And if the chance of making a putt is tiny...like a 40 footer... then you should try to putt to the hole, not past it to minimize 3 putts

Sorry Mary, have to disagree. We’re not just talking about ideal holing speed here, we’re also focusing on mindset, intent and self-belief. The moment you’re just trying to ‘lag’ a putt to 2-putt, you’re questioning yourself and reducing your potential putting performance.
