    We carry a high deductible, and keep a car maintenance account of about $1500 so that if anything happens to our 2 cars (one is paid off) we have cash on hand to take care of it... including work or regular maintenance.

    Dave Ramsey is too real !!!!

  • @jjb0894
    @jjb0894 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Dave, I had never thought about it this way before.
    I still have collision insurance on my Civic even though I paid the loan off because it’s only five years old. I had a $1,000 deductible and after listening to this, I changed it to a $200 deductible. It costs $240/year more for $800 less risk. I didn’t even think about it this way. I can afford the extra $20 a month and would rather not have to fork over $1,000 if I total my car or have to make another claim that I’d normally have to pay a deductible for.

    • @disturbed4ever2
      @disturbed4ever2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 1000 you only pay if you are claiming on your own insurance like if you caused a collision and you car was damaged. Or you crashed into Tree.

    • @jjb0894
      @jjb0894 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nile that’s true but I drive my car for work and have had several near misses, some of which would’ve been my fault. I think a $1,000 deductible when I use my car to make my living is somewhat irresponsible. And I can afford the increased premium.

    • @disturbed4ever2
      @disturbed4ever2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@jjb0894 maybe you shouldn't be on the road then if you keep causing near collisions

    • @jjb0894
      @jjb0894 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nile “If you keep causing near collisions” (not a real thing by the way) maybe you have a problem listening.
      Some, not all of them, would’ve been my fault had it resulted in an accident.
      I do literally thousands of trips a year and this is seldom the situation but my point of the comment was that Ramsey is right in transferring risk.
      I don’t currently have an emergency fund like I definitely should and I could not pay a $1,000 deductible without incurring new debt, which I want to try to avoid.

    My collision already has a 1k deductible, but my comp is $250. After listening to this yesterday, I actually did contact my insurance agent and asked him how much I'd save if I raised the comp deductible for my three vehicles to 1k as well, and he came back with... about $64 a year. He added that comp usually doesn't change much, but changing your collision deductible could result in much bigger changes.

I do that even though I know they are pending the passing. When they go, an emptiness is left in my heart. It hurts for a long time. Dental insurance is usually cheap. But doesn't have as much coverage. It probably depends on your state. But for example mine was 25$/month, I paid 135/filling instead of 250. But it's not the same as normal insurance. My root canal was still over 1k, but still discounted. Shop around see what is there in your area. Shop different dentist offices too for the best deals.

      DO NOT go without health insurance, EVER!!! Even you you go with the $50 a month $10,000 deductible shitplan, you get massive discounts at the hospital just for having insurance, because the hospitals have special deals with the insurance companies. Lets say you get hit by a car tomorrow and have a bunch of broken bones and a punctured lung. The discounts you get from the shitplan could easily take your cost from $100k without insurance down to $20k, even if the insurance company doesn't actually pay anything.

    THIS truly showed how "godly" DR is. he eats and wears animals so it is no wonder why he would not spend money to save an animal at that expense when it is needed. how holy is it to support the abuse, neglect, torture and slaughter of "Gods" creatures for a selfish meal when it is completely unnecessary? "Thou Shalt Not Kill" does not have an **** then says (besides animals.) why do religious people and their church host BBQ fundraisers with the corpses of Gods animals? how is this a good thing? i love his financial advice mostly but not the animal outlook. they are also living and have emotions too, ALL of them, what happened to just being nice to animals? is it really that big of a deal to be nice?

      It isn't godly to support abuse or torture of animals. It is godly to support slaughter of animals for human consumption or for historicly mandated sacrifices for the accountability of sin. In some cases it is godly to support neglect of animals when human safety is at risk. The ** does exist in Genesis 9:3, Leviticus 11, Deutoronomy 14. In fact in Leviticus 6:26, God requires priests to eats burnt offerings. One point Jesus proved when he provided fish to the multitudes, and when he took a sacrificed lamb to the Temple, is that human life is the central focus of His agenda, while as Genesis 1:26 emphisizes, humans have dominion over animals. I don't see where Dave is out of line denying the extended life of an animal if human family well-being suffers as a result. What if you need that money for the medical expenses of your spouse, parent, or child in the future for example? I'll go out on a limb and say you will be hard-pressed to find a theologian who agrees with your assessment that scripture elevates animal privileges to that of humans.

      @@dorian2112 Hmmm, well if God said that He created specific animals (not all animals) for food, then it wouldn't make much sense to say eating livestock is "ungodly" if it was God's idea in the first place, would it? And again, if Jesus Christ sacrificed an animal and fed meat to hungry human beings, how do you justify those acts as "ungodly" to a sinless deity? Furthermore, I have never encountered the concept that feeding yourself and family to avoid starvation is catagorized as selfish. Are you saying that it is better to starve your family to let a cow live out his days so that PETA won't accuse you of selfishness? And I'm not sure what culture you come from where you think livestock has to be tortured before a slaughter. I've slaughtered countless wild game and poultry, none of which required torture. I've never seen a live goat burnt to a stake or raked over hot coals and I really challange your claims that you've seen it either. Finally, I would suggest that it is quite apparent that you need a book to show you the difference between right and wrong if your conscience deceives you into believing that humans should suffer in favor of animal welfare, and human significance should be down-graded to the level of chickens and ducks. That sounds like a perspective the devil would really enjoy.
