    Budgetting is all discipline. Without discipline every system will fail!

    • @RonJohn63
      @RonJohn63 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I kinda disagree. Budgeting is putting round pegs in round holes, and square pegs in square holes. What requires discipline is *deciding to sit down* and put the round pegs in round holes, and square pegs in square holes, and *stopping* when all the round holes are filled with round pegs and the square holes are filled with square pegs.

    I have an alternative plan for people who think following a budget is "too restrictive". I call it a guilt based budget. Live like you normally would for a month, but whenever you spend money on something you write down the amount and what it was for. Then at the end of the month you go through the list of what you spent and categorize it, and if you went over your income for that month you have to explain to yourself why each purchase was necessary and worth going into debt for. Works even better if you do it with a spouse/partner and explain to them.

    • @AbidingHopeMentalHealthCoach
      @AbidingHopeMentalHealthCoach 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Marlyn Santos After 10+ years of consistent budgeting, I can tell you to within $50 what I actually spend on food in a month. I sometimes go a few dollars over, sometimes a few under (a few = >$20), but roughly I hang out around $700 a month. But if I were able to increase that to $800, I’d spend $800. So basically I spend what I budget. I could probably save $100 if I shopped a bit more frugally, but why? We can afford $700 a month for 5. I should mention I get most of my produce at a produce store that has really good prices! I menu plan every week and shop to the menu. All this makes a difference.

A lot of people budget monthly, but since I get paid weekly I always budget on a weekly basis, which is awesome because I can track my expenses and spending more often. I struggled to do a budget where every penny was set out as I felt it was too restrictive, instead, I tracked my spending for 3 months then gave myself a weekly budget the I knew was livable. With this system I can save 60% of my income but still feel can do what I enjoy, if I spend too much one week I just know I have to cut back the next.

Now after I tried it now I'm less worried about money and stashing hundreds of cash into my savings instead of a small $15/week and getting bossy with my money and showing it who's boss. Now I can't wait until the next budgeting meeting to see how much I can save or have available for things that I might need and know if I could or couldn't afford.

    I started budgeting with my wife a few months ago and I liked the results (thank you free spreadsheet program). This is why I set myself up with a need want list...... My basic rule is I can't get something on my want list until all my needs have been met..... Needs include food, transportation and maintenance and clothing when necessary...... There are a few other things as well, but that's how I operate..... If my needs aren't met, I can't get what I want...... I don't deny myself, but I get smart with my money to make sure I'm not going to be struggling...... Most of my friends don't understand this though..... Their thought process is I need this shiny new thing and I need it now, but then they're going without some of their basic needs

      @@flowergrowersmith449 yeah, my mind works completely different from most people. Being a civil engineer my mind has a very mathematical approach to everything. Whenever I have cash in hand I consider that money already out of the bank and it's not going back in, so I will blow it much faster. When I use a credit card I consider that purchase as building up a monthly bill that I have to pay so I'm less likely to spend because that money isn't "gone" yet, but I have to pay for it. The numbers on a computer screen for my bank account have a bigger impact on me then a piece of green paper in my hand.

    Without a written budget, you will always stay broke. Makes no difference what your level of income, you need a budget. When you do make and follow a written budget, it really helps you make the most of the income you do make. Personally, I feel much more in control of my life when I follow a written budget. Most people feel deprived when they do a budget, not me. I feel less stress and more peaceful. It's such a shame most people work so hard and yet live so broke all because they don't want to take the time to sit down and make out a budget. They don't follow a written budget and then wonder why they have so much stress.

October of last year, we were spending our way into the red every month. Every month we did better. Now? We save 40% of our income every month and that’s not even accounting for more changes we made this month to effortlessly save another $600/month. I’ll make a video about it. He’s very very right. • @catherine380
      @catherine380 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scott One i have to just track spending and keep track of everything, and just set a percentage of paychecks into savings accounts. Because our income is so irregular, paycheck one week, then again two weeks later, then not again til 4 weeks later, then 2 weeks and 2 weeks then 4 weeks... sometimes a little more or a little less amounts... so it’s different every month and impossible to budget the way they say to. But I still try! It makes a huge difference even just to keep track of every transaction and see what we’re spending money on and where we can make improvements and stay on track.

      Budget for the minimum amount you expect to make in that month. Any overages go to your baby steps.
      We get paid hourly so each of our checks can vary + - $100 x 4 checks between the two of us. We budget for the smallest check we expect to receive (our average check -$50 or $100) and since we're on BS2, anything extra goes to debt (though we might get crawfish this month)

The "best budgeting app in the world" should be available worldwide, don't you think?

      " While EveryDollar is free, to get actual financial tracking for your budget and connect your financial accounts, you’ll need EveryDollar Plus, which costs $129.999 a year. With Plus, you can drag and drop to match transactions to your budget categories, but if you’re a Mint user, you won’t likely need this. Still, the budgeting tool is handy (and can help you create a better budget for use in other programs)."

    The problem I have is that I get paid biweekly, not bimonthly, so my money comes in at a different times than at the beginning of the month, which makes it difficult to pay bills as they come in.

    • @margueritestein8998
      @margueritestein8998 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      JewelBlueIbanez I have my bills split into 2 categories. The first (rent and student loan) are due the 1st of the month. Everything else is due the 16th or after. They are pretty equal. So I pay those alternately, and if you plan it correctly, nothing will be late. Then, when there’s a month with 3 paychecks (it happens like twice a year) you have a “bonus” check!

    • @catherine380
      @catherine380 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We get paid 2 weeks, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 2-2-4 repeating, plus the amounts of each check is different. So each month’s income is different. Lol 🤪 I just keep track of spending and save a set percentage of each paycheck.
