For me, the biggest failing as a starter kit, is that it doesn’t deliver the plane on the front of the box. Starter kits are generally bought by people who are new to the hobby, they look at the box art of the various starter kits and generally decide based on the one they like the look of. To get it home to find that they will have to build the lesser known and used FAA version (sort of, because it doesn’t even have the right paints for those - it’s like the designer was off sick and they asked the receptionist to pop down to the paint store for some grey and green paint) would be a disappointment. As a starter, this fell at the first hurdle. BTW, there were two 106 paints, you pointed out that the one in the Humbrol/Airfix style starter-pots, what was the 106 in the bigger Heller bottle like?
I agree and feel it really would have been much easier for Heller to just supply the paints for a blue one! This one had both the 106 in the rubbish pots. It was the light grey and green that were in Heller pots.
Considering you said I'd be upset with how much you berate my beloved Heller, this is a surprisingly fair review. As I said in my massive "Using Every Model Kit Makers Paints Review" Heller's paints are trash. I said what I said 💅🏽💅🏽💅🏽💅🏽
How annoying that they didn’t give you the paint needed to make the blue one, the blue one, or the blue one. Also disappointing that the decals are so out of register. Considering what you had to work with you ended up with a neat result.
Captain VFC, bravely buying and making rubbish kits so we don't have to. Keep up the good work Sir. By the way. following up on a previous comment, air rifles should be a part of every modellers' toolbox for moments such as these. (Go on, do it, you know you want to, it's just sooo satisfying.)
At least Airfix has the "Classics Series" and you know what you get in the box, especially if you want to go down the nostalgia route. But Heller...modern pricing for really old kits in a new box. Just buy Mistercraft or Smer and get the same quality ( and models) for third of the price.
Back in the 70’s I quite liked Heller kits, now that Heller has been taken over and moved to Germany things will improve hopefully as they make some cars that others don’t, you did a great job with the kit well done
I have the misfortune of owning a Heller Hellcat kit and am attempting to build it now. It isn’t the starter kit but it is just as bad. I bought it as a job lot and hate it!
Heller seem to offer most kits "both ways". Maybe it's my esoteric tastes, but I have only had one poor one, which was the 1/43 2CV. The newer tools are better. Most 1/43 cars go together well and I have a selection of 1/24 ready to go ( and a lorry with a "gentleman's magazine" as a decal 😂) The 2680 tractor was a delight, the petit gris looks nice too The estafette looks amazing on the spue. My current WIP is the K70 starter, might make a good video as it is a bit more sophisticated than most, despite the age If you want any spue pictures before purchasing, I am happy to mail them if I have it
I usually look up kits on Scalemates if I'm unsure about them. I bought this and one other Heller set (will be featured shortly) off the shelf just for a change. I have thought about making a Heller car but really need to clear through some of my stash first!
(My French is not good enough to respond in it!) This is not the worst tool, but it is being sold currently and probably should be retired. Thakfully Eduard do have F6F fans covered. Acrylic paints do make sense for beginners as they can be thinned with water (normally). Some of the newer Humbrol enamels mixes are not great and I made a move before they quality gets even worse.
I assume Heller did/do not have a supply of appropriate gloss blue paint yet and thus are making do the best they can. I would rather them have just sorted some paint...
Really?? I mean was that actually mentioned in the instructions to "not insert the parts into cavities they aren't supposed to be inserted in?? 😂 that's just funny like atrocious. Nonetheless loved the review. I really like the funny aspect of speech you introduce in your reviews. I've tried my best to do that in my videos but just can't seem to get it right. Maybe a nudge on the head while recording might help me. We'll see 😅. The model turned out looking cool with just the OOB paints. It's a cool little kit though. Oh and throwing it in the toilet might end up blocking crap so not worth that ,I believe. Carry on. Great reviews
I didn't actually read any of the warnings... Regarding my style - thank you. I'm just being myself and that means not seeing anything overly seriously.
Update : DON'T BUY IT !!! It the worst kit I have ever build, the paint is absolutely awul and the plane is not even straight ?? Big disappointment, hopefully the pieces can help me repare my father's old hellcat..
You want kits to flush down the toilet? Then you should buy PM Models kits or Mistercraft kits. Some of their models are decent, but they do have real stinkers.
If you stay tuned there is one Mistercraft kit in my stash that will make an appearance. I also have the Sea Fury that later went on to be released by PM. I just need the appropriate paints for that one
I came across your channel when I was down a wormhole, and I find it joyously homespun.
Great model kit.. loves the decal sheet.. lots of options.. wish I have this model kit.. great work..
I bought it today and quality may have improved: pieces are thin but not transparent as these in the video and a paint midnight blue was included!
What?! Midnight blue in the box?! Game changer
Expensive airgun target.

I just don't like being meeeeean!
@@VFCproductions avoid the Revell 1/72 T-6 Texan starter set like the plague.....its absloute GARBAGE and only fit for the bin.
@@jaws666 I have that kit. I agree with your assessment
@@VFCproductions i belive this was also the 1st mount of the "Blue Angles"......nvr mind as you just mentioned it.🤣🤣🤣🤣

Heller starter set paints are really thick and gooey :-( Made me really appreciate the acrylic paints you get with Airfix starter kits.
we recognize a hellcat at the end , this is the most important.
French qualitat 👍
I tried building that.... not very hard though. Fit was atrocious. So put it away in the round filling cabinet. I have the eduard boxing in my stash😊

I agree. The gift set idea is fine, but old tools like this don't really give a good impression of the hobby.
How thin/transparent was that plastic, never seen anything like it.. proper job to get it to turn out the way you did.. 👍👍
It was very soft and flexible so not ideal.
Thank you, whilst I didn't enjoy the build that much I did want to get a good result out of it.

Ditch the loud music?
Heller 80268, North American P-51 Mustang is also a very bad idea.
Oh.
I have one of those to make as well...
