    I own this stone and am in love with it. It works so well and does such a great job on rough and smooth textured knives. Keep on keepin on...

    I’m a butcher so I sharpen often. I have seen these stones in their black packaging but never could commit to buying one until recently. I haven’t spent much time with it yet but my initial experience was that it was one of the better stones I’ve used. I played around with it with a boning knife and was surprised by how quickly it developed a burr

    Very happy that you decided to do this series. I have watched hundreds of stane and sharpening videos and i still enjoy them. I use a 320, 1000, and 5000 shapton ceramic. I wont butcher trying to type the name 🤣

    Greetings from Australia. I just found your channel and love the content. I also have a passion for knives and your videos make me want to go back down to my shed and work on the edge just a little more!!
    Keep them coming mate !!

    I was using a King whetstone 1000 grit and my only complaint is having to soak it so long or it dries up after two or 3 strokes and i have to wet it again. I jist got this shapton stone and just the way it was packaged I knew it was a quality stone. I poured some water on it and it stayed on it. Sharpens vert fast and puts an incredible edge on my blade.

    No Homo but your strokes sound amazing and look amazing! lol I could fall asleep listening to the sound of the knife on stone being repeated for hours.

    thanks for the video. if i have the 1000, should i pair it with a coarser stone, or will the 1000 be enough to cut the paper like u did. thanks

    I have a question for you: what makes you use your stroke style as opposed to the push/pull method? Have you tried that method? What do you think of other stroke styles?

    Ordered a 1000 today I have a shapton pro 8000 and while I like it, it doesn't have a lot of feedback and it's kinda soft, but just 8k stones are

    Do you use strops at all? If so, plain leather or pasts? If you do use pastes what grit/micron are they?

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I using a 'rouge' buffing compound. Haven't tried any pastes to date.

    I’ve yet to pick up a 1k from this series…I have the 2k and it’s often where I stop unless I wanna go all in and hit it with the 30k (which might be the most stunning polishing stone I’ve ever encountered)

    Please tell me, many people after shapton glass 500 switch immediately to 2000, is it rational or desirable to use glass 1000 in the interval. I used shapton pro 1000 after glass 500 and it seemed to me that it even worsened the result after 500, now I sold pro 1000 and I think do I need to buy glass 1000 as an intermediate? Sharpened carbon steel and mild steel

    Request: Do a Chosera 2K "Green Brick of Joy". Edit: Never mind! I see you did it in video #5 of this series! Cool. (How about an Arashiyama 6k? Beautifully smooth stone. Gets a knife "whoosh" sharp. A kite flying through the wind.)

  • @ericbain507

    Is a 1000 grit in general or the Sharpton specific you recommend if one was interested in a general maintenance stone. Not sure I want to go down the rabbit hole as far as the art of sharpening, but would like a decent maintenance stone.

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A 1000 grit is a grit first stone to get, regardless, but the shapton 1000 is exceptional. A step above. If you don't trash on your knives, and just need to bring your edge back to 'sharp', a 1000 is your best 1-stone option.

      @@kyle_noseworthy thank you lad, I think I will continue watching this series and then decide how far I want to go or at least garner a better understanding, but the 1000 is now on my list regardless.

      Eric Bain bub there are so many great 1000 grit options to go with. A great value is the Suehiro Cerax 1k which cuts amazingly to knives that I own (up to 63 HRC). It is a soaking stone but I love the white surface that shows all of your progress while removing metal. Or the King KDS 1k/6k for a good value combo stone.

    How long do these last? Do they dish eventually, or last forever like ceramic rods?

    • @werkzoekende6553
      @werkzoekende6553 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They dont last that long and are quite soft , if you do to much of an angle it cuts easy in the stone

    • @greekveteran2715

      For a one stone setup for a beginner which of the two would you recommend? I am still studying and quite low on space so looking for the right stone but didn't know if i could later go from the glass 500 to the shapton pro 2k direct or if i need the 1k. Thanks!

  • @mattiaseriksson9433

    The Shapton Glass 1000 is out of stock in my country. The store recommended the Shapton Glass 500 instead (accompanied by the Shapton Glass 3000 for finish).
    Would that be a reasonable combo for a first set of stones? Some seems to think the 500 would be too fast cutting, but since the 1000 is out of stock everywhere here, the 500 seems like the best current bet.

      I ended up with Shapton Professional 1000 grit and 5000 grit. My local dealer had them both as a package deal and I went with that.
