Honestly I prefer the E4 variant over the F4, the E4 allow you to have *both* 2 x 20 mm with the famous german anti-air rounds *and* a 250 kg bomb at the same time. It's landing flaps are also quite amazing allowing you to pull out of dives that would make most other planes crash into the ground, it also allows you to for a *short* amount of time turn like a turn fighter allowing you to surprise enemies that's fighting you on their own that expect you to fly a lot more straight like a F4, and it allows you to slow down your plane more then most enemies are able too quite quickly, not quite a cobra but still enough to sometimes get behind someone who where originally at your tail if they've managed to get close enough to you due to you being slowed down by defensive flying. Yes, the E4 can't kill more then 1 or 2 tanks in a battle, meaning that you're left with just open top stuff to kill after dropping your bomb. But you're able to dogfight with that bomb surprisingly effectively (I usually *don't* drop my bomb when dog fighting in my E4, although I might drop a "surprise" if needed, sometimes getting me a tank and plane kill at the same time). And you can protect those of your team mates who are bringing more bombs from enemy planes fairly effectively due to the effectiveness of the anti-air rounds in your two 20 mm cannons.
The BF 109 planes are amazing at air superiority. Get lots of altitude, patrol the skies, and pick off opponents from the highest flying to ground level. Never engage in turn fights if it can be avoided. Dive from a few kilometer distance, take a few shots at the enemy plane, pull up and climb regardless if you missed, hit, or killed. Once your energy from speed is again transferred to altitude, get speed at that superior altitude and prepare for the next victim. This way it's really hard for opponents to respond to your harassment, they basically have to dodge your assault, and after they have turned around to return fire, you will be too far and high to chase or shoot at. In a 1v1 this tactic can be survived by good pilots who know how to be evasive, taking up most of his focus from what ever he would be doing if you weren't bullying him. However bring a second BF 109, preferably premade party members in voice coms, and performing organized duo dives will be almost impossible to live through. The only way to survive is to dive waaaaay down and hope the Germans value their altitude more than taking your life. Bringing this gem of air dominance down to attack tanks is baffling. You would be better off taking a ground attack plane that's actually made for the job with heavier guns and more armor, and letting the BF 109s keep the skies clean of allied scum.
I mean, for Ground RB, it's an ok aircraft if you wish to ground pound soft targets. In intercepting Attackers? It's great, although I'd prefer the Stuka G2 or the 110G2 on the ground pounding role.
My most used plane in tank rb. Very agile, very nice in air-to-air combat. I agree with the points in the video. 15 mm are nice to group more shots on planes, but that's about it.
This has probably already been mentioned, but the "radiator sticking out" is actually the intake for the supercharger. Oil radiator is under the engine and the coolant radiators are in the wings.

The deal with BF 109 F4 gun pods is the relic of Gaijin's dreams of bombers being useful. These armored belts were meant to punch through the plane and crank the chaos inside. But bombers were always too detached from the gameplay and only a handful of planes had what it took to actually chase them, all while not having fun because climbing ain't fun. Given how most climby planes got issues with firepower, Gaijin tried several approaches. The BF 109 F4 is one such way. The other, latter way was to make every bomber feel like it's made of rice paper. Then gaijin gave up and now BF 109 F4 is just a relic of old times.
Hmm interesting. The 15mm came about because the popular 20mm at the time the Oreliken was too big to fit through the center of the propeller hub, so they designed the 151 to fit that role, originally 15 mm and they loved it at first, as it had 850 mps velocity with standard rounds, but the AP was around 1050! But they soon found out that the rounds were overpenning and not doing damage, so they tried to make the 151 into a 20mm, and the mine shells were developed to fragment and do more damage. It took a while for that to be done hence why the E model had a stopgap option the MG FF, until the 151/20s were ready. Though the rounds were only at about 600 mps and lost velocity as they were heavier. So the 15s were retained for things that required longer distance damage, and heavier armor. You can also use these guns on the 109 F-2, the Do 335 A-1, the SDKFZ 251/21 AA, which it certainly does good for with the triple 151s. G-2 at .3 higher probably a better answer, wonder how that works top down. Seems a bit heavy.
You are right. The war thunder wiki describes exactly the function of each plane and it's components. My gameplay became much more exciting after I started reading the Wiki for each vehicle. The 109 was always supposed to be a bomber killer, that's the reason it has such a great performance at high altitudes
Honestly, as someone who plays RB and has tried out differnt planes, i've decided that the Bf 109 F-4 is the best multi-role fighter. I tried the dive bomber route, but they are terrible at facing the for certain enemy planes that will specifically target you out as "ez prey". Their rockets are not really worth it and suffer fighting in turns. They do got good guns. The F-4 is the best bf-109 for combat bc later era planes (such as the fw and later bf109's) were designed to intercept bombers during the 2nd half of the war. The guns on the bf-109 are 7/10. They will keeeeeel, but aren't inane one tappers. The f-4 is far more maneuvering than the FW's which lose energy so bad. Ngl, german planes aren't known for their turn rates, so ofc other planes will win in a 2 circle. The bomb on the plane will wreck even heavy tanks. But you might want to use other planes for it that bring the same rockets, A7M2 is more maneuverable, N1K2 is more maneuverable and faster, the J2M is good at climbing but I doubt you'll be using it much in ground RB where the dogfights usually occur in low altitude
I always loved the 15mm gunpods on the F4, i always wondered why there weren't more 109's that utilize that caliber, after a while i read that during testing by German engineers they found that while the 15mm does have greater velocity the 20mm won out due to it's larger damage potential against aircraft. It's a pity as i would almost always choose the 15 mm over the 20 in WT if given the option.
I never liked the german 15mm. I have tried and tried to use the 15mm effectively against aircraft and tanks a while ago to no avail. I was hoping maybe one day the 15mm would be buffed as its a much bigger caliber than a 50 cal yet does no where near the amount of damage that a 50 cal does. As of now it seems to do a bit more damage to aircraft than before, however I think the main reason the 15mm does not do much damage is because it over penetrates the aircraft. Every time I have gotten a kill with a 15mm in a 109 with said 15mm, it was a pilot snipe, as it almost never destroys aircraft components.
The difference is that biplanes is slow and you can go as vertical & as close to the ground while still being able to pull out while planes like these need to always be fast
Good vid! I really recommend the Bf 109 F-2, same 15mm cannon but mounted on the nose and can carry a bomb at a lower BR. You can snipe pilots like a boss, kill crew/set engine fires with accurate nose mounted gun and destroy tanks with bomb
You can use the Bf 109F-2 for more effective use of those guns, as the 15mm is located on the nose and the plane itself is lighter and sits lower in the BR range
So about the F4 imho. It's a good plane for Air RB, played for alot of matches and is still one of my favourite 109s but taking it into Ground RB is the same opinion you showed us in the video.
The bf109- f4 is honestly my favorite fighter. (I’ve only gotten to the g-6) and personally, I’ll always take extra cannons and rip apart planes. I’ve slapped the ground too many times in this plane when trying to kill tanks. 😭
You should try the F-2 BF-109. Its basically this but a centerlined 15mm Cannon with 200 rounds, plus that 250kg bomb, or 8 rockets to fire at planes (Since they are more meant for use against Bombers)
‘Ay Htp, what do you think is the best way to get better at realistic tank battles? I have just reached br 6.0 and am really struggling with it. What are your best tips? Love the videos.
Hey man i relly like your channel, it's different than most WT youtuber out there your content is not only entertaining but also informative 👍. I am a relatively new WT player and still grinding rank 8 British vehicle, can you please do how to play the Warrior IFV?
To avoid crashing you should set your prop pitch to 100% with 0 throttle, or in other words, activate German airbrake. This requires manual engine control. (Credits to Adam514 for this trick. )
i actually use the 15mm cannons to kill tanks not the best option but against british rank 4 tanks with their 10mm of engine roof armor it actually can do something, but mainly i use the 15mm cannons to fight bombs in air rb and kill some enemy planes as the rounds are so in accurate that some stray shots will hit the plane even though the rest of my rounds arent
And if you just ignore the gunpods and bombs it became a terror in the skies because it's much more manouvreable and can even follow spitfires long enough to land some airmine hits before they outturn you
I love this plane so much. Those 15mm's can delete so much and it can be uptier to 6.3 and it's still great. Killing m18's with the 15mm's so so fun too. It turns well it has great firepower and it's just one of the best 109's that not enough people talk about. I probably have 500 plane and 100 tank kills with it.
@@samuelwurster2899 Gonna have to disagree with that, the squad 262 is better. mainly because it is at a br where top downing most things is a kill cause 4/5 of the crew is in the turret when fending off planes it mostly faces props which it can outrun and out gun.
The f2 is actually rather good. If you separate the cannon from the mg it's pretty nice. It's low br is a better match for the 15mm capabilities and since it's centrally mounted with 200rds it's good for most allied 3.3 vehicles
I rushed the research of the Do 335 because I needed a plane to support my 5.7 ground RB lineup. I REALLY wanted to make it work, but couldn't. It's a flying brick and I found landing accurate strikes with the bombs difficult. The MK 103 is an awesome cannon, but 335 remains a poor platform for it. I actually swapped it for Bf 110 C and then Me 410 (the 50 mm variant) and both felt much better despite lower br.
@@tristanwentink5735 yes but we are talking about aircraft which have powerful cannon and bomb that was mainly used for tank RB and usually the 335 is not used to attack in high angle (not that the plane can't do it) which are more focused for its armaments not it's flight characteristics, but again the 335 is not for everyone and it just happens to fits my kind of playstyle

It's a pity as i would almost always choose the 15 mm over the 20 in WT if given the option.
Looking forward to an A6M video. Because no-one really has the balls to make one.
My fav/best fighter in the game. I love the white camo. It is great in Air RB and Ground RB
If I can kill a KV-1 with a 10kg bomb, you damn well can kill something with a 50kg bomb XD
The difference is that biplanes is slow and you can go as vertical & as close to the ground while still being able to pull out while planes like these need to always be fast
Hey, the Bf-109 F-2 could be interesting too, it has the 15mm on place of the 20mm cannon.
1:15 nice double kill man
HowToPlay1337 gives such good vehicles relatively low scores that I'm really curious what kind of vehicle would get a 10 out of 10 from him.
Dude I love this plane, you kill M16s so easily and air to air combat is amazing
Radiator sticks out? 😂 love the videos
With the Bf 109 F-2 you get the 15mm and the 250kg bomb at the same time.
Before video: He is going to talk about cement core.
During video: ya he talking about cement core.
A cermet is a composite material composed of ceramic (cer) and metal (met) materials.
So about the F4 imho. It's a good plane for Air RB, played for alot of matches and is still one of my favourite 109s but taking it into Ground RB is the same opinion you showed us in the video.
Can you make a video about FW 190 F-8?
This is literally BF109E1 on steroids
man i never used the 15 mm .. thx for video, bf 109 f4 was my baby
The bf109- f4 is honestly my favorite fighter. (I’ve only gotten to the g-6) and personally, I’ll always take extra cannons and rip apart planes. I’ve slapped the ground too many times in this plane when trying to kill tanks. 😭
The one with the 15mm cannon in the nose is just as good at this
You should try the F-2 BF-109.
Nice VIDEO! Can u make a video on bombing with different kind of planes in realistic ground battles?
Could you please make a video about the JPz 4-5 because im about to research it and i would like some advice.
I'll tell you fast that it's stock shell APCR is so trash
@@aerina_eclair i know i saw it.
good gun, low versatility, next to no armor. all you need to know
@@scalion44y22 its an Ru 251 but the TD version?
@@scalion44y22 It's gun is good but it's like a turretless Ru-251
Want agaexellent dogfighter/strike fighter???
The Blackburn Firebrand!!!! (kidding)
The Hellcat!!!!
nice man i really wanna see more
To avoid crashing you should set your prop pitch to 100% with 0 throttle, or in other words, activate German airbrake. This requires manual engine control. (Credits to Adam514 for this trick. )
The 50kg bombs are great. Annihilate open tops. If you can direct hit a Sherman it dies which is pretty easy to do with such a fast fighter
This specific variant of bf109 makes br 4.0 very unenjoyable indeed
Great stuff here....thanks pal...
I don’t see how people can dislike this
My guy that's the air scoop for the turbocharger not a radiator... Really love the content tho!
In the bomb department I’m fairly certain literally all BF109’s can carry either 4 50lb/kg Bombs and 1-250lb/kg bomb except maybe the B1
I usually use the bf 110 G2 as it has a cheaper repair cost , it can carry 2x500kg bombs and i have a fully expert gunner.
AU 1 Corsair review plz
i actually use the 15mm cannons to kill tanks not the best option but against british rank 4 tanks with their 10mm of engine roof armor it actually can do something, but mainly i use the 15mm cannons to fight bombs in air rb and kill some enemy planes as the rounds are so in accurate that some stray shots will hit the plane even though the rest of my rounds arent
Try the premium do335
@@samuelwurster2899 I don't give the snail money, plus the do compresses too much double plus it not the best dogfighter
@@vincentcasserole226 not for fighting planes its the best ground pounder Canon for Germany
Pretty sure the "sticky out bit" is in fact for the supercharger for the engine and NOT a radiator intake.
why no love for the bf 109 g2?
Do a video on the Ju-87 D-5? It's easily the most interesting one in the stuka lineup with all it's weapons options.
The BTR-152 has basically the same firepower but on a truck
they should do another version, or ad an upgrade to the BTR-152 so it can pack 4 machineguns :3
Hey HTP1337, I have to ask since I've been wondering for a long time by now; Where are you from?
now i play this aircraft alot, and i never use the additional canons against tanks, aircraft and lightly armored vehicles only
I have not Played that First map of your Video since 2019
0:40 This is the supercharger i guess, just like the Dora
F-4 is good plane to penetrate t-34's side armor. If you attack him at an angle, you'll definitely penetrate it. You must shoot AP belt of course:)
Could you review the puma next?, nice videos btw
Do the do335 if you want a perfect strike aircraft.
Me 410 b6/r3 is better fite me
Too bad it's a bitch to pull out of a dive.
Bf 110 g2 is quite versatile with different cannons and bombs loadout
4x50kg bombs are accualy pretty good. if theresa bomb option like 4x50kg and 1x250kg or 1x500kg you can press space 2 times on a enemy and drop all 4 50kg and then use the heavier bomb for a different target, unless you miss the first 4
The bf109 f4s are what i like to use for air to air fighting it my favourite
