  • A fishing destination that should be on everyone's bucket list.
    Remote Jackson Bay on the West Coast of the South Island is a true wild fishing paradise.
    This is my favourite fishing spot on the South Island. It is very protected from overfishing due to it's remoteness and often un-fishable weather conditions.
    The closest basic facilities are in the small town of Haast, 50km away. There's no cellphone reception and the NZ sandflies are ferocious.
    Nevertheless this is a dream come true for every fisherman.
    There is a long wharf for great land-based fishing. I went for a kayak fishing adventure and also for a dive. I caught so many Gurnard here, it was crazy. Diving for crayfish is also popular and productive here.

    What fish finder do you use on your phone mate? By the looks of?

      Hey, it's a deeper pro wifi fish finder - made a review about it a while ago. There is a new model out now. It's called a deeper chirp.

    I went there last weekend... it wasn't good weather like this. But it was fun, nice pedalling to the islands, blue cod, red moki, kahawai.... when I was leaving the islands a seal was chasing my kayak.... it didn't seems so friendly at the time 😂😂 But I couldn't go to that (jackson bay) spot on the next day, very rough conditions ....next time. Great video mate!

      cheers man. Wow you get around quite a bit as well, eh. JB is a magic spot. Haha yeah those seals... Luckily it didn't try to jump on your yak. What was the sandfly situation like?

      @@Fishingreminder First time I went there, the sand lies were crazy.... the only place I got more sandflies than JB was at Lake Hauroko. But this time I think it was too windy for the sandflies haha

      I've been there quite a few times now. I have no idea how you managed to get so many gurnards on that area, I haven't see any other thing than harrings on that spot where you were. When diving I've seen plenty of marble fish and harrings on that place. If you had went to smoothwater bay with your kayak ( and not through the walking track) you would had hooked some kahawai or a skipjack tuna. The shark on the jig was a surprise too. How was the dive? Nice spot for crays there.

      water was too dirty. I went for a dive and eventually found one but it was too deep in a crack to grab it :) But they are definitely there

    I really enjoy your vids but eating trout but catching and releasing gurnard??!!

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, yeah. We love eating gurnard. Normally I would keep one or two. But we had so much trout to eat that we didn't feel like eating fish anymore 😆 Better release than potentially wasting them.
