      @mikechirinos9817 you do know that many Canaanite gods were adopted into the the Egyptian pantheon and it's mythology. Baal's sister, Anat, became the consort of Set in Egyptian mythology.
      Does that mean you should also hate Egyptian mythology by your logic?
      Canaanite gods like Anat, Astarte, Qadesh, Resheph, and Horon, were either adopted into the pantheon of Egypt and worshipped alongside their native gods.
      And the same could be said about Mesopotamia as both Dagan and Baal Adad feature both in Mesopotamia and ancient Syria.
      The Greek pantheon and it's mythology is also VERY HEAVILY inspired by middle and near eastern myths including Canaanite mythology.
      Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades are just watered down versions of Ba'al, Yam, and Mot.
      And the whole myth of Zeus fighting Typhon or whatever it's called is just heavily inspired by the whole storm god vs the sea motif seen in the Baal Cycle, but the Greeks may have been HEAVILY inspired by the myth of Teshub vs Ullikummi crime Hittite mythology.
      (Greek are really just copied from the Mesopotamians and Indo Europeas)
      And lastly Yahweh was originally a Canaanite god, since Canaanite is a broad term that refers to anyone who settled in that region.
      And it doesn't help the fact that Psalm 29 was a Canaanite hymn dedicated to Baal and was stolen by the Israelites.
      So if you're going to hate Canaanite mythology then you should hate every other mythology or else you're a hypocrite or you don't actually read mythology beside the easy to digest retelling's that butcher the history and culture since they're made for children,
      like The Percy Jackson series. You probably only watch this channel instead of reading the myths for yourself.

      @omegaink5635 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@st.mephisto8564 You don’t get it. First of all using the term contest in a serious sense is laughable because the entire crux (or irony) of the account was that Baal wasn’t real, and people were committing human sacrifices on their children for nothing. And so the only element of the story that’s left to criticize from your perspective is God’s involvement. And of course you’d assume it’s mystical because you don’t believe in God. All I’m saying is based on what’s known of ancient Israel during the early Iron Age is that there was fight between paganism and Abrahamic monotheism and we clearly see which idea won. The fact that the book Kings is our only account of that time in Ancient Israelite history, and because it corroborates well with what we see as the Iron Age flowed into classical antiquity ; biases aside I see no problem taking it at face value.
      And no once Israel’s people adopted Abrahamic monotheism there was not an immediate rejection of polytheistic paganism. According to the Bible and the archeological record despite some attempts to expel idolatry, Israel relentlessly indulged in the worship of other gods throughout much of the Bronze and Iron Ages respectively.

    From the beginning of life on Earth, every creature faced struggles to survive. As humans evolved, they started to create stories that reflected their experiences. These stories often featured gods who embodied the same traits of strength and survival that people needed in their daily lives. It’s interesting to think about why, in a universe where the heavens seem limitless, these gods would engage in conflicts similar to human ones. If life on Earth has boundaries, shouldn't divine beings rise above such struggles?

    Many God's had incestuous relationships, which highlights nature's cyclical nature, but it also reminds me of Divine right of kings and some monarch tendencies to also keep it in the family, mostly for power sake. This had a negative consequence as they developed conditions like blood conditions (anemia) and physical deformities

    The main idol in th Ka'ba at the time of Mohammad was Hubal, meaning 'the Baal'. So it's Baalite rituals that Muslims are copying when they circle the Ka'ba etc. Maybe someone should tell them, lol.

    • @sub7se7en
      @sub7se7en 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +18

      The rituals predate the pagans. The pagans inherited them from their forefathers who worshipped the god of Abraham. And fun fact, Yahweh of the Bible was known as Baal until the name was no longer permitted (likely due to its pagan association). The Bible even has a verse where the name became forbidden as a reference to Yahweh. Hose 2:16 makes it clear Yahweh used to also be Baal.

    I always heard it as Ba’al (bah-al). Sounds innocuous, but it’s the root word for the germanic “bana“ meaning a killer or something insidious. It’s not very common for old germanic to have loan words from places as far as the Middle East, but bear in mind that in later centuries Israelites became nomadic and would’ve taken parts of their language with them. Modern English has a descendent of this word too: bane. As in; “the bane of my existence”.
