As someone who is 4 games into the Ace Attorneys, I would say that one is definitely great to experience in order. Out of all the series you've mentioned here, that is the one where you appreciate the most if you follow the story progression.
Final Fantasy games like you said you can really start anywhere! The characters and stories are completely disconnected. (Except for the direct sequels like X-2) But yes do not start with X-2 because it’s one of the direct sequels lol. My personal favorite is X and it was my first. But 6, 7, 8, X, 12, 15 are all good to great. 7 is being remade and split into 3 titles, so might put that one off until the third part comes out. The remake looks really good.
"A series with a million different entries and then spinoffs" this is when I knew FF would be here LMAO. Morkim put it perfectly already below but yeah, mainline games are all their own things except if they have spinoffs/sequels, so definitely do not start with X-2 cause it relies heavily on knowledge of X, Dirge of Cerberus less so but it's still within the FF7 plot and world. That being siad, FFX is a great place to start imo and is extremely approachable with an amazing story. FF7 is also a classic, and there's also the FF7 remake games that have been coming out that have been incredible so far imo. FF15 is also quite approachable too, since it has that modern feel and combat. Super excited to hear your thoughts on some of these games whenever you get around to them. Cozy banger of a video as always!
I second FFX. Its where I started a couple years ago, its extremely noobie friendly for lack of a better term. It teaches you things about the combat, world and such that earlier games dont really do.
I started the final fantasy series with crisis core reunion on switch and I fell in love with the main character zack the ending was so good and emotional I played final fantasy 7 next because their connected zack gives his sword to the main character on final fantasy 7 cloud btw I have a crush on you ❤
17:26 me on my 5th straight hour of watching back VODs 😂 PS2 Horror Aesthetic is such a vibe, getting into the Silent Hill series will be very exciting!!
I recently bought the Final Fantasy Pixel remasters. They start with Final Fantasy 1-6 and its availabe in a complete collection set on the switch. If you're wanting to start where it all began then this is a good choice.
I might actually pick that up. I think the only FF game I’ve played was Tactics as a rental way back in the day. I don’t think I’m very into the more modern ones but a pixel remaster of the originals, that might be my path.
fire emblem is the same for me-i have three houses and access to a couple of 3ds games but it’s honestly hard. i’m an animal crossing/pokemon/phoenix wright player 😅. i’d recommend three houses for the looks and big screen, i wished it worked for me so much and i sunk a bit of time into it. i’ve been scared to go back to it 😭
definitely recommend the ace attorney trilogy and then the prof layton crossover. it’s very very different and phoenix wright is just so satisfying and funny. i’ve not played standalone professor layton but it’s been super enjoyable in the dual game.
Regarding the Final Fantasy Series: I'd say Final Fantasy 8 Remastered is a good entry point. It has some Features that makes it easy to play, Like you can toggle Off random encounters, Speed Up time and have unlimited limitbreaks. So If you get stuck you can make it easier and just enjoy the narrative.
Can't go wrong with the very first Fire Emblem that release in the West. The Game Boy Advance title "Blazing Sword" the difficulty curve is designed around easing in new comers while still providing a challenge.
I spend at least an hour every day thinking about this exact same damn thingthing 😅😂 Yakuza gives me heart palpitations lol. The only thing I’ll add is that I either start at the first game and work my way to the present (doing this with Assassin’s Creed) but only if you like the early ones and it doesn’t feel like homework, or try the new one and you’ll go back to the older ones if you’re truly interested. (I did this with God of War, Ratchet, Final Fantasy, Sonic, and I’ll be doing this for Atelier). BUT I’ll ultimately you’re not doing anything wrong by starting with whatever game you want, and fuck who thinks otherwise. You’ve got this, Silly Goose Gamer Hannah™️
One of my favorite JRPG series of all time is The Legend of Heroes, the games span 12 total games with Daybreak 2 releasing early February of next year, with a spin off game as well LOL So i definitely get why you feel anxious, the only advice is to simply play one of them in the series you find daunting, i was feeling the same for The Legend of Heroes as well but it's become my absolute favorite! Thankfully with Final Fantasy you can honestly start anywhere, the only one is Final Fantasy 13 as that is a trilogy of games! Besides that, every other one is self contained yes :) As always, stellar work Hannah!
I can totally understand the post-doom-scrolling-clarity 😭 Sometimes I say to myself that I can’t watch tv or movies or play video games until I get something done, and then I’ll doom-scroll on my phone for HOURS and regret it LOL 🙈 That being said, it truly is sooooo daunting to try and start a new 100+ hour open world (and/or) RPG game. There are so many games like that from the last 10-15 years alone I have yet to try but it’s because the idea of starting that is just so daunting. I game a lot and I have for years, yet I struggle to even beat 6-10 hour long story modes some times, let alone huge open world games 🥲 Just know you’re not alone, there are dozens of us, hahaha 😂
huge open world games can be such a struggle to get into - sometimes theres honestly TOO much to explore. you have to wait for the time you're ready to embrace a long, detailed adventure. i'm glad you understand the struggle too!!
yes!! and i'm so glad that there are sequels for some of these game series, but it makes me panic knowing i should probably start playing the last game in the series before the new release!
I've been gaming for around 12 years now and I found myself not playing games I wanted to try out because I felt the need to play the previous ones. I decided to just start letting myself play whatever I felt drawn to regardless if I've played the previous ones or not and I don't regret it at all. I'm okay with not knowing the full story. It's just my playing style! Maybe you would fit that style of gaming as well!
My First Final game was 7. Think of FF as a realm. Each game is a world inside the realm of FF. I NEVER wanted to accept another FF world after 7 but 15 is KICKING ASS!!!
Metal Gear Solid has always intimidated me ... I've played Snake Eater and a little of Phantom Pain ... But the controls have always been a pain for me ... Really obscure ... Tried the PS1 Metal Gear Solid and lost patience immediately
Loved this topic I'm intimidated by The Legend of Zelda Series I've started a couple of them but never get very far. Phoenix Wright games are great you should definitely give them a try.
I’d highly recommend Fire Emblem: Awakening on the 3DS as your first game in the series! That was my first, and it’s probably still my favorite of the few I’ve played! Also, as far as Skyrim goes, I honestly don’t think you NEED to finish it! It’s my cousin’s favorite game of all time, and he’s never beaten the main story. In my opinion, Skyrim is at its very best when you just kinda play it by ear. Just do whatever you feel like at any given time! If you want to explore and unlock more locations on the map, do it! If a random NPC’s quest sound interesting, go for that! Really just do whatever you feel like in Skyrim, and I can guarantee you’ll have a good time :)
"Sometimes you're not ready for that story in your life, and that's okay" DUDE YES!!! I've started skyrim like 10 times and haven't gotten more than a few hours in would love to beat it one day. I feel you with FF, I used to watch a ton of playthroughs bc the lore is super interesting. I don't think i'd ever play them all but I'd love to play the remakes they made for 7!. Some other series I really wanna get into are Fire Emblem, god of war, BioShock and I REALLY need to finish Elden ring🤣
skyrim is so highly held up that i partially feel that i HAVE to play it, and part of the intimidation definitely comes from obligation! bioshock is SOO good, you'd love it if you haven't played it at all (especially bioshock infinite, which is my personal favorite)
FFX on switch, Fire Emblem Three Houses both switch games you can bounce from monitor to handheld, both have amazing stories. At first they’ll be overwhelming but it’s like anything else, takes a little bit to get a hold of it. Good luck
I started final fantasy with the 16th game, and loved it! then moved to final fantasy 15, also loved it, im going backwards and having the time of my life! although, you can just google the best way to play them in consequential order, but not all games are equally polished and enjoyable, and some might even be worth skipping due to clunkiness, sometimes i also just watch full game-movies on TH-cam to keep up with the story, we're here for a limited time on this planet, its not worth pouring 99999 hours in a single franchise, especially as there's so much to choose from! Just pick your favourite, play it, and call it a day!
Great Video! ❤ Ace Attorney is awesome, I myself played it as an adult and enjoyed it very much. 😊 I recommend that you start with the first one, and I think there is an „Ace Attorney (Phoenix Wright) Trilogy“ out for Switch.
Yeah this is totally a thing. We have the curse (and blessing) of so much access. Like you said, as kids we just have to play what comes to us, it makes these things so much easier in a way. But I think it’s okay to use that as a model when in doubt. If you’re getting lots of conflicting advice, play what comes first to your hand. Most of these things really should be designed as standalone.
Have fun! all the numbered Final Fantasy games aren't connected, so you can really pick up any one of them but there is some continuations. Like the Final Fantasy games you showed take place in a certain numbered games universe. For example Dirge of Cerberus takes place in the Final Fantasy 7 universe while Final Fantasy X2 is a continuation of Final Fantasy X.
While I’m not the most seasoned fire emblem player, I’ll give my two cents here. Like Final Fantasy, it’s an anthology series and you can start with any game you want. I personally started with three houses, and from what I know it’s a good entire point due to its difficulty. Might also be a good idea to start with one of the 3DS titles just because they’re going to get hard to find the longer you wait. I personally played awakening on the 3DS and really enjoyed it.
Last year people were prasing Baldurs Gate 3 and they were comparing it to Dragon Age Origins ( My favourite Game). I was hesitant on picking Bg3 up because it is DnD and turned based and I've never been a fan of that genre. I decided to take the dive and play the game. 400 hours laters its become one of my favourite game of all time. Ive become obsessed with this game and even praise it as much as dragon age. Some advice i do is play a game and if it doesn't click, drop it and come back later. Bg3 filled a hole last year that i really needed, Wonderful video!!!!
I recommend final fantasy 10 for your first one. It's aged fairly well, voice acting is great, story is emotional and easy to get invested into, combat is solid. But i totally understand how you feel, there is just some series that i worry i will not like as much as everyone else does. maybe due to a lack of nostalgia or just being older with less time to enjoy something when there is so much media out there competing for your time... The yakuza series is a great example, hear nothing but good things about it but there is so many entries to the series and im kinda scared i wont like how it plays lol
there is so much media! under the whole "attention span" issue, for me its not that i can't sit down and watch something for a long period of time (because i can), its more so that my attention span for picking something to even start has become so bad! why start a movie, when theres an online game to play or why start reading a book when i could catch up on tiktoks that my friends send me! i've heard such good things about the yakuza series, and then i feel like there are so many games that are adjacent to the series that are also really good, theres just so much content at this point. i feel like it would be so different if you grew up while the series was coming out, you'd get to experience each release on its own rather than trying to get into a long-standing series!
This intimidation issue sounds silly on paper, but I bet a lot of people, myself included, relate. There’s a phenomenon of “paralysis by analysis” that plagues many people. I think it’s related to “decision fatigue”, which has been studied in psychology when measuring people’s stress when given options at grocery stores and picking out clothing to wear. Final Fantasy games have been completely unrelated to each other for years, but if I recall correctly, they eventually were very, very loosely connected retroactively. So loosely tied that you’d have to do a deep dive into the lore to see any connection at all. You don’t have to worry about the continuity of the installments that have different Roman numerals (for example, FFIX is not needed for any part of FFX’s story to be enjoyed). Even though the Roman numerals are numbers (that you are supposed to pronounce as the number), you can just think of them as words (X-2, pronounced as “ten two”, does continue directly from X, but X (ten) doesn’t continue from IX (nine)). I imagine IX is a good place to start due to the gameplay being more simple than most of the installments of Final Fantasy around its time and it being more like the classic Final Fantasy games, but the story is widely loved by Final Fantasy fans. Since you were into law, you should be warned that the Ace Attorney series is partially based on Japanese law and partially a parody-critique of Japanese law. I’ve heard that Americans who are well-versed in law find the Ace Attorney games surprisingly different from what they were taught. For example, in America, we’re taught that the burden of proof is on the accuser; innocent until proven guilty, but Japan operates like the burden of proof is on the defense; guilty until proven innocent. I think the game franchise for which I most relate to your problem is Persona. The game franchise that I had the best experience in just jumping into it was Resident Evil, when I began with 4 (which is probably the most self-contained of the series after the first.
oh!! the whole info on ace attorney sounds so interesting! honestly that made me more excited to play it! i often find myself with decision paralysis, so i believe in the analysis paralysis as well - sometimes too much information and too much detail can become overwhelming, especially when stepping back into a larger story. its like trying to manage multiple side quests, and the main story.
Okay so on silent hill. 1&3 are kind of a pair, otherwise, You can play any one of them in any order. I would also say that the sh2 remake is a totally different experience from the original and i prefer the original over the remake. while 2 is my favorite, 4 is severely underrated and if you ask me that one shouldve gotten a remake instead of 2. Last thing, you dont really have to play anything beyond 4, i did and i regret it tbh. Except for maybe shattered memories, that ones ok i guess. P.s. if you would like to borrow my copy of sh4 since its a pretty rare find contact me. Id like it back tho. Its mine. And i like it.
When I was your age, I had too many choices and that was 30+ years ago, so a series like Final Fantasy was only on 6 or 7 back then. But that was also when I stopped even bothering with RPG's, as the older I got, the less time I had to devote for games, and RPG's take way to many hours to finish. Strategy games while maybe not as bad, are still really long and require a big investment on time, and most of those never appealed to me to begin with. I can speak to the Phoenix Wright games, as I would recommend the first, as those have characters across the series that are on going. You do have the ones that take place in the past, and you could start with those and be more current, but those are like watching a 2024 movie, and then trying to watch a 1980's one. Both can be good, but once you have the bells and whistles of the newer games, it will make it hard to play the original ones. I loved the series for the detective mystery aspect, and trying to piece everything together to solve a crime. But it is heavily on rails, and even though you may have the pieces to the puzzle, you have to present things in a certain way, which can get annoying at times. If that isn't your thing, probably not for you, and I haven't kept up over the years, so I'm about halfway through the series overall. I recently got a Steam Deck, so I've been trying to get the later games I missed on a good sale price. Most games average 5 cases, and each one gets longer, so the first case is normally the tutorial, and the shortest. But by the 5th case, it can consume a lot of time as well, so keep that in mind.
I love the Professor Layton series! You should give them a try! I think it's best to just play them in release order, so start with The Curious Village
Currently Im in the middle of playing final fantasy and kingdom hearts series. Currently I am playing FF: crisis core which is part of a kh crossover series. I was told that FF: X is before X-2 and that FF: X is a good one to start off on and not all of final fantasy are connected the are only some that are. But you should play the kingdom hearts series as well its by the same makers as FF
Honestly my best advice/opinion I can give is to not worry and don't feel peer-pressured about what to play or whom you're appeasing. Final Fantasy for example; it's a huge series and you're gonna have purists on all sides of you saying which ones you should/shouldn't be playing. "Gamers" love to shove their opinions down others' throats and claim it as fact. It's exhausting. And you're right, we only have so much time to ourselves to enjoy our hobbies; there's no sense forcing yourself through something just to say you did it. This isn't just directed at you Hannah, but anybody reading this: play what you want. Fuck the haters.
About Final Fantasy, I’d say start with either 7 Remake or 16. Both are more modern and easier to get started, and if you like what you see there, then go back to the older ones. FF 16 is quite different from previous ones because it’s a lot more action focused, so a lot of hardcore fans don’t really like it, but I personally had a blast with it and loved the more mature story and setting. For Ace Attorney, there are many collections available on Steam, so I’d recommend going through them, see if any interest you and start there. And for Silent Hill, just start with SH 2 Remake, it’s a stand alone story and regarded by many as the best one. And yeah, prices are only going to go up from now on lol I also want to get into the Professor Layton series, but the games are just SO expensive where I live that it’ll have to wait 😅
My biggest thing is just jump into whatever the most recent release from a series is. For Final Fantasy, my favorite single player games are FFX and FF Tactics Advance. I'd recommend either playing FFX or FF7 remake. If you do play remake and go into Rebirth, ignore Chadley in Rebirth until after you get through the main story, I burnt out hard on the game and quit after 60 hours and haven't touched it since Stellar Blade came out. FFXV isn't bad, but I wouldn't recommend it as your first experience, maybe 2nd or 3rd because it's one of the more modern ones. Anything that's a direct sequel to one of the games, X-2 being the best example, you need to play the first game in order for the sequel to work. Same with the FF13 series. Dirge of Cerberus less so, but it is enriched by knowing the story of 7, however it's more reliant on the original version of 7 lol
i haven't ever played the originals, but the remakes i've found are fun! i actually really love re7 & 8 as the new entries in the survival horror genre! but when games start to get remade, and now there are 2 versions of everything - it definitely can get overwhelming to pick between them too!
With FF like you’ve said you can just start anywhere you want. You can even start with the newest one (FF16) and just enjoy it as its own thing and then try another one like 6,7,9 or 10. Just pick one and see if you like it , they are not long RPGs anyway. Edit: Don’t start with 2,3 or 13. Also 11 and 14 are MMOs so 🤷.
I'm guessing most people have said to play FFX before FFX-2. One of my favourites is 12, which everyone says it's pretty much Star Wars, but in Fantasy. It's really a good game, but very different. I think the game was released a head of it's time, as the PS2 wasn't ready for that style of combat. If you like PS1/2 style horror, have a look at Crow Country, it's heavily inspired by PS1 era. There's another game coming out too, called Alyssa I think it is. Another PS1 style game. If you want PS2 style horror have a look at Tortured Soul, which is inspired by OG Resident Evil & Silent Hill or the Daymare series. Daymare was originally a fan made Resident Evil 2 Remake, but Capcom Remade RE2. So they made their own IP. It's a bit clunky, but I really enjoyed them
I think you have a decent road map for FF, you own the sequels to those main entries, so might as well go ahead and try those main entries and play the sequels after, and decide where to go from there Fire Emblem is also an anthology series so it's really whichever looks most appealing to you, though if you want an actual rec, either Three Houses or Awakening (or the GBA one if you have the NSO expansion) for Phoenix Wright, absolutely go for the first trilogy, out of all those franchises you mention, this one benefits the most by going in order
For Final Fantasy, start off with whatever one interests you the most. Like you said, none of the games are connected in any significant way unless they're numbered the same (Like X and X-2, and 7 Remake and 7 Rebirth). The games are very well done and by the end you'd love the characters and the world they reside in. From the ones you've looked into, which ones were you most interest in playing? Edit: For Dirge of Cerberus even though it's a FF7 Spinoff I've heard you can enjoy it without having played 7. For X-2, definitely play X first. I really enjoyed X but never got around to X-2 personally.
Final Fantasy is in a sense, not connected to each other. I'm still a little confused about it myself. I started with Final Fantasy 15. I then went to Final Fantasy X. Really the only way to really understand which is a sequel is like the Final Fantasy X-2 which is basically part 2. Final Fantasy VII is a big deal in the community that I see most. My personal favorite is Final Fantasy VII Remake since I never played the original Final Fantasy VII. Crisis Core Reunion is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake series. Final Fantasy VII also has a tie in movie sequel too with Final Fantasy VII Advent Children which I like too.
FF is good. Def recommend 7/7 remake. However I do wanna personally recommend persona 5. Imo it is one of the greatest games of all time. SURE it’s 100+ hours but it’s crazy good tho! It’s accessible on all platforms. Also I love the combat and story. You play as this high school transfer student who has to deal with the world hating him and change the hearts of crappy people while making friends along the way. Then there’s also persona 3 reload. Kind of a dark game and a bit shorter than 5. It’s accessible like P5. Follows the transfer student story but it’s much different compared to 5 (not gonna say more cuz I don’t wanna spoil). Persona 4 Golden is really good and more of a wholesome game but the visuals are a bit outdated imo. (Persona 1 and 2 do not exist!! 🙃)
If you want to play the best Final Fantasy with the best story, then get the Final Fantasy remastered collection for the Switch and play Final Fantasy VI. I find it better to start at where it all began and then move forward through the different games of the series.
Constructive criticism incoming... Just go for it! when you have your first thought of the day to play something new, just get off your bum and do it. Don't hesitate and don't think about what people will say. If you don't enjoy what you played, move on, no big deal. Have the courage to give it a try. don't worry about what if this or that. you will figure that out later. Live in the moment because it's all you have control over. the past is done. the future is not here yet.
There's a few games I own but haven't played yet like Horizon Zero Dawn or the Spiderman games. I just like to start one game and I can't start another until I beat the one I've started. I also don't like turn base games anymore like I've tried replaying Kingdom Hearts and the grind to level up just to beat them. I don't like those games.
Objectively 100% the best games to start with: 1. Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS) 2. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade (PS5/PC) 3. Professor Layton and the Curious Villiage (DS) 4. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (Switch/PS4/Xbox) 5. Silent Hill 2 Remake (PS5/PC)
final fantasy you should just not bother, or just start with 15 and 16, because if you play the originals, if you play final fantasy 1 to 10 and you like those games? you fucked, you never gonna see that again, might as well play the last 2 games and stay with that and what comes next, hack n slash action wannabe slop to people that pretend turn based is "hard" or "boring", if you enjoy that, stay on that lane, 1 to 10 is a different beast and if you start with that, you will most likely hate the new ones, for good reason
As someone who is 4 games into the Ace Attorneys, I would say that one is definitely great to experience in order. Out of all the series you've mentioned here, that is the one where you appreciate the most if you follow the story progression.

Ace Attorney is awesome, I myself played it as an adult and enjoyed it very much. 😊
I recommend that you start with the first one, and I think there is an „Ace Attorney (Phoenix Wright) Trilogy“ out for Switch.
You always bring such great energy to the room 👏 ✨️ 💕 ❤️ 💓
thank you!! 😊
Yes!!! The beginning is the best place to start with that series! 🧐
Amazing video to watch while i eat dinner, thanks for the awesome video!!
I would recommend FF7, FF8,FF9 and FFX and X part 2. I love your channel.❤
And yeah, prices are only going to go up from now on lol
I also want to get into the Professor Layton series, but the games are just SO expensive where I live that it’ll have to wait 😅
Any popular horror series, i own a couple resident evil games but I’m still too jumpy to commit to them
i haven't ever played the originals, but the remakes i've found are fun! i actually really love re7 & 8 as the new entries in the survival horror genre! but when games start to get remade, and now there are 2 versions of everything - it definitely can get overwhelming to pick between them too!
It's a bit clunky, but I really enjoyed them
I think you have a decent road map for FF, you own the sequels to those main entries, so might as well go ahead and try those main entries and play the sequels after, and decide where to go from there
Fire Emblem is also an anthology series so it's really whichever looks most appealing to you, though if you want an actual rec, either Three Houses or Awakening (or the GBA one if you have the NSO expansion)
for Phoenix Wright, absolutely go for the first trilogy, out of all those franchises you mention, this one benefits the most by going in order
Final Fantasy VII also has a tie in movie sequel too with Final Fantasy VII Advent Children which I like too.
so connected, but then not connected LOL thats funny. i'm really excited to try it!!
If you don’t care about the legitimacy of the game and only a physical copy you can look into softmodding the ps2 and getting the game on a dvd
also I’m a first time viewer! you make some good content. I subbed
thank you!!
I'm lost with Final Fantasy too... I tried the original 7 from PS1 and honestly I couldn't recommend something less. Banger video btw
I think X is a little more beginner friendly than VII. The accessibility options in VIII remastered and the Pixel Remasters should also help
I remember thinking about buying silent hill 2 in 2019. Should of done it lol
they are soo expensive now!!
i recommend ffx and fire emblem engage
Doom scroll? 🧐
saints row 2
Objectively 100% the best games to start with:
1. Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS)
2. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade (PS5/PC)
3. Professor Layton and the Curious Villiage (DS)
4. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (Switch/PS4/Xbox)
The first 2 minutes you described the tiktok generation. Delete the App or you will get lost in life.
You've been editing your videos in a certain way the last month and I'm not a fan 😔
@@basket472 okay
It's a good thing you can watch something else then! Hope this helps!
