I feel like Mike was at his grumpiest and sassiest this battle. Maybe a long week and the splitting of the sauce was just too much? Mind you, it was hilarious and his ribbing was on point. I wanted to pat him on the head and tell him to take a break, but I was also laughing my ass off. X)

As someone who's IMMENSELY passionate about and invested in bread (German cliché, but so true!)... this video makes me very, very happy. Bread makes me happy.
Although I'm still getting used to the 'fill soup into bread' way of eating. I'm more the 'dip bread into soup' person. :D
marwolaethgwyn being overly passionate about bread is one of the only German stereotypes that I fulfill and truly embrace. But I prefer whole grain or rye bread.
I don't even know if that cliché applies to Swiss people as well but this makes me really happy as well!

marwolaethgwyn, I completely agree. I grew up in Germany, but moved to the US as a teenager. I still miss the bread. I once wrote a college admissions essay on how awesome the end pieces of a loaf of bread are...so much crunchy crust...mmmm...lecker!

Salt and pepper no matter what. Be generous with it. I love garlic with everything or chilli powder on everything. of it's a pasta, use italian seasonings. if it's texmex food, lots of cumin. Good luck!

Celery is gross and soapy and can only be enjoyed in medicinal quantities - I´m going to guess it´s genetic like the coriander thing.
It's a bread battle where the bread is made ahead of time and the recipes use the bread, but it's not the focus of the recipe. You could cook apple pie filling, chicken or soup and not have the bread. The bread is relegated to bowls.
I'm sure James' bread is fantastic and his recipes for the fillings are great too. It just feels like you're judging the guys on filling and whether or not they can follow instructions on how long to bake the loaves.
SChappellaz I'd agree but you have to consider the fact that bread making can be quite challenging especially for novices. It's also quite boring from a video production standpoint since most of the time is going to be spent in proofing. However I think it would be more interesting if they showed some bread making techniques such as shaping a baguette or something.

In South Africa we call that curry bread bowl a "bunny chow", it's one of the most popular Indian takeout dishes here, certainly one of my favourites!

Hey, why was it called a "bread battle" but the bread was already made for them? This was more like a "follow a recipe which slightly involves bread but isn't actually necessary to the recipe battle"
Bread take awhile to get started partially because you have to let the dough sit for awhile. That probably why they had the dough premade. I used to work at a restaurant and all the bread dough had to be made a day or so before it was going to be used.
This episode is HILARIOUS! You guys are definitely the king of puns. Sad that Barry wasn't there though.
