Joseph Kosinski is one of my favorite directors, every movie he's made has blown my mind and I can't wait to see what he's bringing to the table with Maverick. As an aerospace engineering student who loves filmmaking and has tried to direct a few shorts, hearing that he started in AE as well felt really... validating? Not like I'm about to go and give up engineering to chase after filmmaking, but between James Cameron and Joseph Kosinski it's cool to see that some of my favorite directors didn't know that they were going to be directors when they were my age.
My girlfriend is taking the long path through a Civ degree and struggles constantly with finding joy in what she studies and the work she could do, yet other days never wanting to see another dang water pipe again. I go to school for film and find myself dreaming of engineering. We talk about this alot. I'm so glad to see a comment like this and I absolutely feel the same way. I guarantee for Kosinski, his engineering background is his greatest strength as a filmmaker, and you can see it in the themes of his movies. For me and my studies, loving machines and fluid dynamics makes my work better, and makes the engineering design I do in my free time better as well now that I know all things can be approached as an act of storytelling. It's 2021, we can do anything we set our minds to, and having an indirect path to our dreams will always be an advantage.
I want the Tron Legacy sequel :(
Tron Legacy, Oblivion, Only the Brave. Kosinski is the the man. Love the guy's cinematic style. Wish he was making more movies.

It really is! Superb soundtrack by M83, visually stunning and a great sci-fi film overall

@CIA in the original movie tom's bomber jacket had a japan flag on it. The new one won't have it cause china doesn't like japan and china is a huge market for Hollywood movies
@@pathfinder6997 it was mostly the flag of Taiwan 🇹🇼. I think they took Japan off as a precautionary measure so they didn’t have to redo it again when Pooh Bear had another fit.
Update:
The movie turned out to be *too* Pro-America for Herr Comrade Pooh that Tencent pulled all funding from the movie, and it was released with the Taiwanese flag intact.

If the camera is in the jet, does that mean the director can only check the footage and know if they actually have the shot they need or not once the plane is already back on the ground?

I feel like Tom Cruise overshadowed Joe Kosinski a lot when it came to Top Gun being promoted. I get that Cruise was the star and the producer, and Tom pushed for a lot of things like in-flight photography and setting up the flight training for the actors AND saving cinema and yadda, but I think JK got lost in the mix. A little.
The only movie I will see this year.... in the theater.
