this is probably the most impressive level in the game ... the sheer amount of moving parts and the scale are INSANE for a doom mod. it's actually ridiculous.

Over the years, though, it has progressed more and more to the point where it's basically lost the ability to be classified as a mod, because they've changed or customized basically everything at this point. But the roots are still very closely tied with doom, and have many of the same limitations.
I love how utterly Castlevania-ish this sounds. Really encompasses the dark and brooding atmosphere of the entire zone. I can just picture Robotnik sitting on a throne, tossing a wine glass down at Sonic, proclaiming "WHAT IS AN EGGMAN!?"

"Stellar" is an understatement when it comes to this act. It's probably one of my favorite ones in the entire game with how freaking awesome it gets towards the end!
Such a cool stage, I love the idea of Eggman building a castle, it's really only explored in Shadow the Hedgehog from what I know but never as well as this. This stage works so well to show how scary Robotnik can be which is something i really don't feel in most official Sonic games. It helps that its actuelly a chalange aswell, like he's seriously not messing around anymore.
That part resembles the vibe sooo much as Sonic fighting his way through those frightening heights of the Castle Eggman as he progress from step to step.
After seeing the clock tower on the skybox, I was expecting a reference to Castlevania SotN on a 2D section near the end, similar on the Dark Souls reference on the previous act

this fangame was already awesome and super promising, but as soon as i hit THIS stage on my first playthrough, i knew this was a banger of a game. genuinely one of my favorite sonic stages of all time and it ISNT EVEN A REAL ONE. simply incredible what a group of dedicated fans can do when they really care about something. seriously awe-inspiring
Neo Aerial Garden Zone is small compared to Castle Eggman Act 2? I find that a little hard to believe considering NAGZ kinda pushed the boundaries of how big a level could be when it was created. Though then again, I guess the engine's had improvements since then.

Amazing how much the start of the Castle Eggman melody line sounds a bit like Lifelight when you change up the rhythm, yes? (It really is; compare the first seven notes of the melody line in Act 1 to the first seven of Act 2.)
the atmosphere for this zone (and forest fortress) is comparable to none. raiding an ancient castle in the dead of night, in the midst of a thunderstorm. fortified with traps and robots that will turn you into a hedgehog kebab. the music zone 1 is imposing, tall, and sturdy like the massive castle looming ahead. while the music in zone 2 is expansive, grand, and dangerous, just as this level is as you explore the interior of this castle, weaving through the inside and outer castle grounds & wilds in order to scale to the top. you guys turned an incredibly tedious and convoluted series of levels into an atonishing playground of daring that tests your skills and rewards you exceedingly for doing good and knowing the landscape, as a sonic game should. THIS, is my favorite zone in the game, and is up there as my top zones in a sonic game. my only complaint is that there isn't MORE.
This stage feels like a “Gauntlet of Fools” of sorts. I can imagine Eggman just following along watching Sonic get hit by hazard after hazard and rolling around in his chair laughing at every turn.

In my case it's my laptop throttling all the time. Can barely move fast enough, and sometimes the jump button isn't even registered. Haven't been able to pass through this act yet.
They need to add a 854×480 resolution setting, lowering the resolution helps this stage but i wanna keep a 16:9 ratio... 1280×720 is the lowest 16:9 resolution mode smh
Eggman's shiny new fortress, filled to the brim with nasty robotics, and a sprawling design, of almost maze-like proportions... I'll be difficult to navigate this complex, but once you learn the way, it's hard to forget!! Stay away from spike balls, and moving statues!
i really like this level but my god, its so big and so long it takes a lot of time to beat and its even worse if you play this in a toaster because you play it at like 5 fps

@@hipxel the problem is, my computer can run half life 2 at full fps, in cez act 2 the fps only drops near the start for me, only to about 15-20fps, but on netplay, that's a whole other story
when will this stage be finished For the people who dont know this stage is unfinished i think some of the pathways dont exist yet,you can notice same with deep sea zone(but in that zone its mixed with old and new)
Judging by the fact that one of the massive bridges literally falls apart in act 1, not mentioning multiple thorns protruding from the floor, I think it would be safe to say he doesn't.

SRB2 isn't a mod of DOOM, it just uses the same engine. That doesn't make it any less impressive though.

Eggman needs to get his Clock tower fixed, its not even moving.
In all honesty, that clock tower was a bit of scenery I never saw during my run through this stage.

PICO Ultimate I did thought the clock tower scenery looked cool when I first saw it. The the rest of the skybox of CEZ2 is also cool as well.
The Clock Tower wasn't meant to just be scenery, you were supposed to visit it. It was to be the ending of the stage, but it got cut for time.

It's a gorgeous stage, but it's so long that after a while it's just not fun to play. And yeah, performance sucks on this one stage in particular.
Those shaky synths and square waves remind me of shovel knight.
Robotnik builds a whole castle, that includes a clocktower, garden, and drawbridge.
Only for Sonic to blast through it in 5 minutes.
