I'm so glad he's still using his 1963 Höfner 500/1 Violin bass guitar. When I heard that his 1961 Höfner 500/1 Violin bass guitar had been found, my initial concern was that he would start using it instead of the 1963 one. I guess I didn't need to worry about that.
I'm a singer songwriter heavily influenced by Paul McCartney and the Beatles and this man is phenomenal, you try singing these songs and making them work at whatever age you are and then realize that this man is eighty two years old!,Paul's one of the great voices if not the greatest voice in rock and roll history,I'm in total awe of the man. Bob
Theres something sad, yet heartwarming about hearing Paul's old, diminishing voice, yeah, it is a little sad, it puts into perspective that we wont have him for much longer, but its so heartwarming to hear all the people in the crowd sing, and bring up his voice, showing how even after hes gone, his music and sprit will never die
I was a teen in the early 70's when the Beatles started their solo careers. I still have George Harrison's original box set 'All Things Must Pass' on vinyl, which included a 45 rpm disc as well and had cool liner notes. My Mom (born in 36, an Elvis and Richie Valens fan) loved 'Rain', a Beatles cover band that did the Reno circuit, in the early 80's. I was more of an Elton John (I thought Goodbye Yellowbrick Road transformed rock) and Wings fan, Wings over America was a great album, another transformative Rock album. Then when I was a junior in High School, a friend of my older brother turned me on to Genesis and I bought their best live album 'Seconds Out' and when I heard Phil Collin's voice, not knowing until later he replaced Peter Gabriel, I just knew his career would soar long before it did, and I saw him perform on his Seriously Live tour in California in '90. I also loved ELO,, especially their double album 'Out of the Blue'. Call it the British invasion of the 60's, born in '61 I grew up with the Beatles and even saw their original performance on Ed Sullivan and thought their hair was funny since my hair until the late 70's was always short, then it was long until my career began. Music, even the Beatles, is just as gospel as the gospel music I sang in an early 70's gospel choir. I feel that way because like our prayers, it celebrates life, sings of challenges, and entertains us. I feel spiritually moved by these great artists, their cover bands, and their fans. I even met a man older than me on the bus today and his eyes lit up when we talked about our love of music, including American bands like Journey, Chicago, Toto, and Starship, and I had the pleasure of meeting Craig Chaquico, Starship's guitarist, an amazing solo smooth jazz guitarist who was a surprise guest at a concert in Scottsdale AZ fifteen years ago. Those bands are different from the British ones and morphed into the US 80's rock sound, though heavily influenced by the Beatles who said they were heavily influenced by the Beach Boys and amazed at their sound in the 60's.
I remember seeing Wings over America in the ‘70’s and actually being able to see the band without watching big screens. Ticket cost me $12. Now you pay hundreds of dollars to watch a big screen. Definitely not the same experience.
I was just reading an old Mojo magazine from 1998 and there's a concert advert for Elton John and Billy Joel together at Wembley Stadium Saturday and Sunday 6th and 7th June best seat tickets £37.50 !!!! All tickers available from the venue so no rip off add ons.. PS I saw Queen at Card Castle 1976 tickets were £3.50...
Paul still looks good at 80;odd still amazing that he can still perform he still has a strong passion for what he does you certainly can hear his voice has deteriorated and lacks power but that happens with age I suppose he will perform for as long as he feels capable he certainly doesn't need the money
Maybe it's best for me (at age 70) to just remember and never forget the good ole days. Watching Paul at 82 reaching for those good ole days is just too hard for me. It's clear that some truths are just too painful for me to admit....
Thanks for sharing! Just to let you know that you forgot to put Now and Then on the setlist at 1:16:27 - 1:20:57. Same for Let It Be at 1:53:54 - 2:02:24
Gracias Paul.
Ive seen Paul 2 times in years past and he was brilliant but to hear him reduced to this is beyond sad and to charge the exorbitant ticket prices for the privilage is doing his legacy no good.
I confess that I never liked the Beatles' solo career. In my opinion, the magic and enchantment that existed during their performances was lost when the group broke up and they decided to pursue solo careers. The chemistry was there when they sang their songs and performed together. Now, even if it's just one of them on stage and the sound of the guitars can be heard, everything seems sad and disastrous.
I love Paul and his amazing song writing. (There's a but coming) But I think it's time for him to hang up his microphone. He is struggling to sing and I would rather remember him at his peak. One thing for sure at least he's not miming like some ...no names mentioned. Thank you Paul for the music which will be listened to long after we have gone.. ❤

2 and a half hours..just let that sink in. He's 82 ffs all our voiceschange as we get older. He's been singing live almost everyday for 60 years.
He is at 82. He plays the Bass, Electric guitar, Acoustic guitar, Piano, Ukulele & Mandolin… What a talent.
And having a show that lasts for 2,5 hours.
He drums, too

I am not sure feeding his insatiable need for adulation is our job anymore. It's more sickening to me than sad.
