    Port Orleans doesn't have pirate rooms, you're thinking of the ones at Caribbean Beach resort. Port Orleans only has the princess and the frog rooms.

  • @SS-or7mz

    Pop and Polynesian are our favorites. We outgrew Pop. Our little girl turned three and we literally outgrew it. After staying at the Polynesian I cannot imagine ever staying anywhere else. Dole whips, Ohana, the fireworks on the beach, Cinderella's Castle is right there...

    The pirate rooms are not at POR, those are at Caribbean Beach, Riverside has the princess rooms. That being said, I do love Riverside for moderate, we stayed there last time we went and it was fantastic. We stayed in the allowed alligator bayou section to have the pull down kids bed, and it was such great theming and a comfortable room.

      I believe Ryno and Craig got confused on this week's DIS Unplugged podcast. These episodes are all recorded in advanced, and Patreon supporters get them a week in advance. So Patreon supporters got this "best resorts" video last week and are getting the "worst resorts" video this week.
      For the rest of us, the "best resorts" video is this week and the "worst resorts" video is next week.
      At least, I think that's what they meant to say. :-)

    Saratoga is where we stayed because we have a time share there. Its nice but often confusing in terms out door layout. I must say when I stayed at pop century I felt it was a better stay with great quality for a great price and the best egg salad I ever had. Boardwalk and Animal Kinglodge are my favorite overall.

    Ft. Wilderness can be awesome. If you are staying In a nice RV it is very comfortable and super convenient to Magic Kingdom. There are so many things to do. It is next to triple d ranch for horse back riding. You can tour the stables were the MK horses live. Pony rides and petting zoo for the little ones. Awesome pools and Food service. It is the nicest campground in the world.

    We had no idea that Port Orleans offered Pirate Theme rooms. When we arrived, we ask if we could have a more Private room (aka away from the pool and heavy foot traffic) and the rep thought we said Pirate room.. what are the odds? We did get one.. and it was pretty private lol

      @Justin72walker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was just thinking that. I kinda wished I hadn't planned so much theme park time so the kids could enjoy more of the Fort Wilderness time. That was how we had it when I was a kid, we had days in Fort Wilderness/River Country/Discovery Island, but we always had one day in Magic Kingdom, and later on we had one day in Magic Kingdom, two days in EPCOT. I need to update my touring plans, because we missed so much this time. But we still got the final space flight out of Space Mountain before we left!

    It is 6 months until spring break which I booked for the family and the best resort that has affordable prices is Port Orleans Riverside which I booked for the week. I wanted Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom but the prices are ridiculous ($1000-2500 per night!) everything else is between $500-800/night. I wish I booked a year in advance.

    We have become huge fans of the Boardwalk, both for the fine rooms and service and atmosphere and for the "back door" access to EPCOT, our favorite park. Flying Fish is amazing, too. VERY friendly staff, and if you get lucky, you can see the fireworks from EPCOT in your room.

    I've been staying at Fort Wilderness with my family for just about 10 years now, every summer. We always stay for at least a week in our RV and the experience is just incredible. There is nothing like being in Disney World but being surrounded by such peace. The food there is incredible. It's a boat ride away from Magic Kingdom. Fort Wilderness is my happy place!

    • @carminecioffoletti
      @carminecioffoletti 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ranty baby I've gone a few times throughout the years with friends. You can request to be next to each other to keep the family together. I went with three other families and we were all next to each other. You just have to request! I would do that ASAP though. The earlier you request it, the better.

      We live in TX, how crowded is it in summer & what type of RV if we rent. DB, DSIL, 5 DNi under 10 & me (crazy spinster aunt 53) in 1st RV. 2nd RV married DNe & wife and 4 DNe ages 3-16.

    • @carminecioffoletti
      @carminecioffoletti 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ranty baby Disney is always going to be crowded. June-August will be busy because of Avatar Land opening after much anticipation. June and August are good summer months to go. As for RV, with that many people you are going to want a bigger RV with many beds. If you are coming from TX, I have a nice recommendation. Look up Moore Camping Rentals. They are a local RV rental company in central Florida. You can look at all the different RVs they have for rental. They themselves will deliver it to Fort Wilderness and set it up. Each RV comes with a golf cart, courtesy of Moore's. You will need a golf cart in Fort Wilderness. Moore's will also come take the RV when your trip is done. All you have to do is show up to Disney and leave when you desire. You can just make an easy flight to Orlando and take the Magical Express to Fort Wilderness. Or make a long road trip without having to drive a rental RV.

    Definite honorable mention for one of the best resorts on property is Shades of Green. Honorable mention only because it is exclusive to military (active and retired) members and their families. That said if you do belong to a military family, the value/quality balance is spot on. I know personally it's been our mainstay since 1996, and is certainly worth vouching for.

    I totally agree, the Animal Kingdom Lodge/Villas are the best! While it's kind of annoying to be far away from pretty much all of WDW, it is way worth it between the savannah views, restaurants like Jiko and Sanaa, and even the pool is unique and fun (on the Villas side).

  • @anniesnyder4568

    As a dvc member, I've stayed at saratoga springs, animal kingdom lodge kidani village, the polynesian, and (our home resort) bay lake tower. There are pros and cons to them all, but I have to say I love bay lake tower. It's (technically) on the monorail route. The walk to Magic Kingdom is so short and easily cuts off over an hour of transportation by the end of our stay. There are also very few rooms (I cant say no rooms bc sometimes you just get terribly lucky) with a bad view because they either overlook the lake or the castle. Plus top of the world is an amazing place to watch the fireworks from! I know no one was bashing it, but I think it deserves a few more comments. Can't wait until our next trip!

    • @Southwest737

      @abbytarpey 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Terrapins360 just curious, what is the average price point? Everything I find is from a while ago and I didn't think it was right to call them to ask something I'm just curious about.

    • @rachaeldubose4143
      @rachaeldubose4143 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Terrapins360 I was planning in staying there (i stayed there years ago and it's good for the price especially right at epcot) but now that I am booking it for me and my boyfriend and you can't get the Magic Bands there for free and you have to pay for self parking (my biggest pet peeve. You already are paying hundreds and you have to pay to park your own car????? Disney owned resorts don't do that. Universal ones do and it makes me so mad. Like self parking is not only far away at swan and dolphin but you have to pay and no one else even does the work.) So I was turned off fast. I'm not sure where I will stay now since I have never stayed at any moderate ones (my parents have but forgot which they did so they can't give me tips) and only stayed at pop century for value (I hate PC. The arcade and the outside is pretty cool they have the best arcade ever in the entire WDW resort but the rooms sucked. They are small and the smell from other rooms drift through the vents and last time I went they hadn't even cleaned it well because there was someone's change from the last person staying there right on the floor between the beds. ) and I have been to Polynesian (my favorite MK resort) Beach Club(favoriteeeeee epcot resort ever), Boardwalk (my least favorite Deluxe resort but only because it is hard to get around when you are in a wheelchair and they put you on the 1st floor) and I have stayed at Grand Floridan (my favorite of all time besides the Polynesian) but so expensive I haven't stayed there in so long that I only remember what the Lobby looked like and I also stayed at Contemporary but I don't remember what the rooms looked like either but we go there some too because their arcade is second best. I have never stayed at Wilderness Lodge and my bf when he first went to Disney years ago stayed at AKL and he loved it but he said when it rained you could smell animal poop bad. I was thinking because we want to save money but still have a good experience either stay in Wilderness Lodge (sometimes the rooms are moderate prices), Old Key West (no idea where that is but they said on the worst video that is had biggest rooms of any resort on site and I love me some big rooms) or Coranado Springs or possibly beach club if we can get a good discount. I don't want us to stay at a place that is near Disney springs I like the hotel to be far enough inside WDW that you feel like you aren't even in a state anymore.

    What do you think about Carribian beach resort?

  • @mcbartender
    @mcbartender 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just stayed at Port Orleans riverside and I don't understand the love for this place. The only thing that is nice is that you can sleep 5 in a room(which you can do at the Caribbean beach as well) and sleep is all you could accomplish in he room. No storage to unpack(4 drawers and what appears to be an old tv stand) and little to no room to get ready or eat breakfast as a family. Getting around the resort or to or from was almost nightmarish, even when you can see the place you want to go it is hard to figure out how to get there. The restaurant was pretty bad(although the food court was ok)and the service at the bar was downright standoffish, closed it down early everynight and were not even pleasant about that. Also staying in building fourteen(the closest building) realized the staff parked in our spots everyday(doesn't Disney have staff parking?) the bus service was awful too, waited forever for them in the morning as buses to places that weren't even open like Disney springs came and went(that can happen everywhere though), then at the end of the night the bus would drive past the main drop off and hit every other one first exasperating 80-90% of the people on the bus(a first for me at Disney, that majority of the people got the worst of the service, including those of us who paid for a preferred room).The pool was not exactly great either for kids, especially considering the one at French quarter is basically as nice as a deluxe resort. Overall I will probably avoid this place again. But as usual Pete can only get things almost completely wrong.

    When my wife and I were buying into the DVC years ago we looked at the advantages/disadvantages at each resort. Animal Kingdom is very nice but it's so far from the parks. We're not big on the busing. Key West has some nice big rooms but again only buses to the parks. Saratoga Springs is nice, especially now since the Disney Springs changes. Poly and GF DVC didn't exist back then. In the end we chose the Boardwalk Villas. You can walk to Hollywood Studios, enter at the back of our favorite park (Epcot), along with the dining options along the Boardwalk and Yacht/Beach club. Oh and you're right next to the Swan and Dolphin dining options. To us it was an easy decision.

    Old Key West is my family's DVC home resort so naturally it's my favorite, but when we went back in August we stayed in Kidani Village in Animal Kingdom Lodge and it was so unique from everything else and definitely high in my top 4 resorts out of the 4 that I've stayed at.

    In my opinion, the best moderate is easily Coronado Springs. Insanely beautiful resort with equally beautiful rooms. The kids love the theming of the pool, water slide, play area/sand pit; they also enjoy walking over bridges and "swinging" on hammocks throughout the resort. For adults, the option of having an indoor lounge, waterfront bar, and pool bar (with a super cool view) is awesome. However, the real winner for me is the La Vida Health Club which happens to be the only health club among the moderate resorts!! Super underrated, super wonderful.

    We did the cabins in 2013 at Fort Wilderness and it was great, however there was a rat in our pull down bed. It jumped on my 15 year old daughter when she pulled it down to go to sleep our first night. They are pretty much trailers to look like cabins. We reported it to Disney and of course they tried to make the situation better by offering another cabin, which we took of course, and providing fast passes for rides and food vouchers. It is a very pretty park and very big. We rented a golf cart, which I highly recommend and we enjoyed our time there outside. Other that our uninvited guest, we would probably suggest staying there, I think.....hahaha!!

We're doing the royal room for our kids- looking forward to it, never stayed there. THX

    I realize that this hotel isn't available to everyone, but if you are or have been in the military, I would highly recommend checking out Shades of Green. It's affordable, beautiful, comfortable, and in my opinion has the best shuttle services. It's right across the street from the Polynesian.

    Agree 100%. Port Orleans Riverside is our go to resort almost every time we visit WDW. When we want to splurge it has to be Animal Kingdom Lodge, The Polynesian or Wilderness Lodge. We also love the cabins at Fort Wilderness.

    Great episode. We've only stayed at Port Orleans Riverside & Animal Kingdom Lodge. We loved them both. This year we are staying at the Contemporary simply because we can walk to Magic Kingdom. Anybody here like or dislike The Contemporary? I think next we'll try out Wilderness Lodge.

      @maddieclarke258 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doug Lewis I always loved the contemporary, but in all fairness I've only stayed once when I was 6, so that love could just be nostalgia or memories. The last two times I went, we stayed at the wilderness lodge and it was great! There's a boat that takes you directly to the magic kingdom so we got park hoppers and would always go to MK at night. If that's in your budget, I highly recommend it. Same goes for if you are staying at the contemporary. Since they have the monorail, you could easily go to Epcot or MK at night.

    Animal Kingdom Lodge was my very first resort, my second and last being Pop Century. As a seven year old at the time, I was pretty astonished over being able to see animals from my balcony. I was actually scared when I first went because I thought there would be lions. XD I remember the beautiful lobby, and some of the African art. I know one morning, they had Timon in the lobby to greet guests, which was cute. I also remember the little water park they had that we went to each night to relax. My mom was glued to the hot tub. She wouldn't want to leave it. I also remember a little sitting area they had outside where you can listen to stories. Animal Kingdom Lodge was definitely a unique experience, and I remember more of it than I do Pop Century. I would love to stay there again, or try Art of Animation since I freaking love the theme of the place.

    I totally agree with you Pete on Animal Kingdom Lodge and Port Orleans Riverside. I'm a passholder and love to hang out at both of these resorts. I also love Wilderness Lodge but was very disappointed in the changes made at the Polynesian. It no longer feels tropical especially out the back door and it doesn't feel deluxe anymore compared to the other deluxe resorts. If a family needs more space for value resort I enjoyed adjoining rooms at All Stars Movies in the Toy Story section. Close to parking, dining and the busses. Art of Animation is #1 though and I'm sure when the gondola is finished it will no longer be considered value.

    Pop Century (60s) and Art of Animation (Nemo) will soon both be my #1 buildings when they complete the new Skyliner Gondolas station in the middle of the Generation Gap Bridge. Value accommodations now with convenient transportation! At Disney I generally spend 90% of my time in the parks. And the room is just a place to sleep and shower. So paying for a fancy pool, restaurants, arcade, shops, and lobby doesn't make much sense.
    Of the value resorts I really like the 80s PacMan buildings at Pop best...but the 60s will be closest to the gondola station.

    I'm with both of you on ALL of these! However, Port Orleans: French Quarter and Coronado Springs are definitely some of my favorite moderates!!! Both are always super quiet and the theming of them are so wonderful!! They always get forgotten, but they are hidden gems which is why I love them!
    I'm also definitely with Ryno on the Cabins at Fort Wilderness! I live in Orlando and I still go to Fort Wilderness just to get away....or just to bike or walk! I absolutely love it! AND......I always love getting to visit the little bit of old "River Country" near Mickey' Backyard BBQ every now and again, just to see what Disney is still doing with it and the history of it all.

    Below is my Best Resort List that I can come up with
    Value: Pop Century
    Moderate: Riverside
    Home away from Home: Wilderness Lodge DVC
    Deluxe: Poly
    I think that my all time favorite resorts is from the old Home away from Home category. I like the original Tree Houses and the old Fairway Villas both from the Disney Villa's then turned Disney Institute.

    Hi! I am staying at Animal Kingdom Villas in august and am wondering is there anywhere on property that sells groceries ? Since the room has a kitchen I'd wanna buy some things to make but not sure if the resort offers groceries... I know grand Californian in Disneyland offers groceries in one of the stores. I'm aware there's delivery services that can deliver groceries but it's so expensive. Thank you!!!!

    Old Key West , enormous rooms, parking is right outside your building and being a DVC member points are king and this resort has the lowest points per night of any of the DVC resorts.
    Every DVC resort with the exception of Old Key West uses the same smaller rooms over and over, with different themes, they feel like a slightly glorified deluxe rooms and the walk from the parking lot can be quite long, unless you use the valet. You are right they are all very good ( Saratoga is definitely the weakest) but the best value for using points is Old Key West hands down, with the added benefit of those enormous rooms.
    lets face it, every room looks the same when your sleeping :) so there is no wrong choice just personal opinions on what we all prefer the most.

    Growing up my family and I went to Disney World several times and we tried many resorts on varying ends of the spectrum. Some how. . . we always loved the cabins at Fort Wilderness the best even above the Grand. All the resorts we stayed at were all nice some very luxurious but Fort Wilderness was always our fav, it was more peaceful, and almost it's own little park. Honestly my clearest memories of trips to Disney are the golf carts at Fort Wilderness and finding Giant Pine cones in the wooded area by the cabins. Hearing the peacocks, and coming home from a long day at the park and what I remember most is the gecko's stuck to the cabin when we got home.
