Very interesting. In all my 50+ years of modelling and interest in aviation, I've never come across the scheme that's depicted by this boxart. Amazing to think that this very a/c flew not too far from where I now live. Hixon's now an industrial estate but some of the runways are still in existence. It was an MU and there's lots of photos around showing Wimpey's being serviced. Nice to see that our Turkish modeller friends are being represented as well. Well done, Airfix!
@MOS6510Models I know, Mos, it's tragic, mate. To think of all the amazing Bristol designs like the Britannia and, of course, Concorde that used the runways there. Very sad.
On the subject of box art, I have both of the Roy Cross books on my shelf and they are a constant delight. I'd love to see Airfix publishing some new, similar style, books of box art featuring their more modern kits. Maybe get some of the other manufacturers thinking along the same lines too, such as Eduard and ICM.
@@MOS6510Models it was a nice and easy mojo build, it went together well and the decals were typical Airfix , really good . Nice review Mos. The alternative part for the rear with the vision port, and the part that you couldn't trace is for the reconnaissance camera, as flown by No.II (Army-Cooperation) Sqn. They didn't get on with it and it was replaced with The Mustang 1, so was never flown operationally by them.
@@MOS6510Models The history of the squadron is currently my bogside reading, I am working towards a model of most of the aircraft used over the years. Please Airfix can we have a Jaguar GR1a in 1/72?
This looks like a much nicer offering of the P-40 than the very old (1964) Monogram kit, Revell AG keeps popping it out and the molds needs to be pitched at this point.
Moss The shark mouth nose art design may have first appeared on a German Roland C.II reconnaissance plane around 1916 during World War I. The design was also seen on a British Sopwith Dolphin around the same time. So there we go, no clearer than when you asked!! Bob England
I've got the 2nd edition of this kit and will be building the Army Cooperation scheme with the camera port option. I may well be tempted to add this addition to the stash as well...
This is a great kit!!! But has a minor omission that I did not notice until later. Just so you know - the Trim Tab is only molded/scribed on the RH side of the Rudder; you'll have to add it to the left. -Rob
Some planes had shark's teeth in the first world war - the German Roland C.II is possibly the first, the Sopwith Dolphin also had them. But there may have been others as they were personal individual nose art.
I have one of the previous boxings, i did notice that the latest boxings plastic in the box is alot darker. Any idea if Airfix are using a different styrene? 🤔
The Germans were first - there was a Messerschmitt Bf109 B/C with a Shark's Mouth in Germany, 1938 and a unit of Meserschmitt Bf110s used them from early 1939-41. There are other examples prior to this, but they were not really "Sharkmouths - just teeth and ugly grins.
So. The total amount charged when redeeming the model kit remains £3.95. The customer is never charged more than this. Due to how Airfix warehouse works, they can not dispatch a free item on its own. Therefore they have to put a value against it. They reduce the postage by 50p and add it back as the passport, therefore the total value remains the same.
You know, I just watched the video again and I think I was seeing the seams (where the two halves of the mold come together) on the parts which were more visible under the lighting, rather than flash. Thanks for checking. It’s a nice kit of which I have the Pearl Harbor defender edition in my stash.

Oooooooh!!!
Hi MOS, have got this one. Re the Germans having shark teeth, some Bf/Me110 had them on the nose. As for scheme, will be doing it in RAF markings
And Bf109's and Ju87's.
Thanks for sharing.. so i wasnt dreaming it that the Messers had teeth lol.. nice scheme too
The early Bf109s had the shark mouths, mainly the Jumo engine Cs and Ds.
WWI German Roland CII were the originators of the teeth (probably)
Thank you for that. i didnt dream it then that the germans did it first

Frog did them years ago and they were brilliant..

Yes they use a different mix now.. apparenty they have gone back to a mid 1980's plastic which by all accounts was the best
Which color scheme? Would likely do an 'alternate history' scheme for a story I'm pondering writing,
that will be cool.. send pics when its built my friend
