Amazing how many new features have been added to Helium since it was released.. 👍 Now we have song mode + clip properties.. this will simplify writing complete songs in AUM.. it will push you to finish arranging all those 4 + 8 bar loops into something more.. I really appreciate the ‘new slower delivery’ style, it gives me time to think and absorb. Incidentally, dropping your video/manuals early in the morning is great, it fits with my morning cuppa in bed. Good way to start the day. ;-)

The song mode workflow is VERY simple in its implementation {hiding all the under the hood complexity of your programming}. It took me a moment to realise that the song mode timeline was independent of the track view timeline. Keep up the great work.
Yes, I don't like to overwhelm people with too many options. This is still an experimental feature so I really didn't want it to be front and foremost.
This is just excellent. And I REALLY appreciate the flexibility of including both a "Song Mode" AND the ability to manually schedule and play loops on the fly. This is taking on the characteristics of the Gadget sequencer (and then some) , which I've always liked. Fantastic update; looking forward to getting it and working with it.
@@PaultheMusicMan Once I have my song ‘arranged’ in song mode, is there any way I can jump around the timeline, say to listen to the last part of my song? I could go back to remote looping but that may not have the channel mutes or automation ... or would it? Haven’t had time to get the workflow straight in my head, but its certainly got the juices pumping! Does song mode automation differ from non-song mode automation ie: Is automation remote loop based or song timeline based?
@@SoundtempleMusic Song mode runs in sync with the host application. It works the same way as Remote mode so you can happily move beterrn the two methods using the same loops.
Sorry, I know this is unrelated but do you have anything up your sleeve for auto ducking? I do mostly voice over work and that would be a tremendous help. Automation on Cubasis and other DAWs I am sure would do the trick but I much prefer the AUM set up. P.S. Thanks for all that you do.
Paul, Indon’t know if I’ve missed it but could you consider MIDI velocity randomization within upper and lower limits of selected notes, MIDI compression, and MIDI humanization? Possibly micro MIDI time adjustment. LOVE HELIUM!

@@AmpApps You can randomize notes and their velocities, but currently you cannot randomize velocities and apply to existing notes. I may well look into this in a future version. The next version does have an enhanced randomize feature, but it still cannot do exactly what you want.
Hey Paul I really like your dedication for making these apps. I'm new to the iOS Ecosystem and already bought Midimixer and Neon. One thing I would like to ask you, is it possible to: 1. Invert the notes contained in a Loop (Horizontically and Vertically) 2. Multiply or divide its tempo Also is it possible to map the loop snapshots to my Novation Launchpad? //edit: if you have it in a video already please just point me to it :) Again; thanks for your dedication and really nice Instructions
Since Neon is audio there is no real way to extract notes as such and invert them. You can chop samples into fragments and trigger them from a Novation LaunchPad if you own either the 3rd generation LaunchPad Pro or LaunchPad Mini only.
Hi Paul, just wondering if there’s any chance you can ***pleeease*** :-) add grid lines below a quarter note and have automated cc parameters appear at the top of the cc list for the selected channel.
I am going one better, the next version will allow mului-take so you can keep practicing until you get a good take.... this feature will appear in v1.10 coming soon.
I'm not quite sure how this would work as right now the mixer shows the levels of each track and their global settings. Are you suggesting a mixer could set levels at each loop point?
@@PaultheMusicMan on the loop block where you set a track as muted or not for that particular loop instance (long holding the loop) above each mute button could be a mixer that’s associated with that particular loop instance… so instead of on or off, an instance could mix in different tracks over instances or create different mixes rather than just mute states? Hope this makes sense, just an idea. These would override the current mixer state, and maybe only for over ridden channels? Thanks for listening :)

@@funksmaname I always assumed people would only ever want CC data to play alongside their note data especially in a looping situation (song mode). Is there a reason why you need something like this? Is it just that you want to be able to control the mix at different parts of a song?
Hi thanks for showing this option, really nice, however I tried it but for some reason I cannot hear sound when I am in song mode. I play AUM no sound, the curser within Helium does not move ! Sound plays fine outside song mode
Check the mixer to ensure tracks are not muted. it is easy to do when playing with remote loops as octave 2 is mutes. Also check the mixer. There is currently a bug in song mode when you mute clips. I will get this fixed in the next version. For now I advise you to not use track mutes in song mode.
Hi Paul, I'm leaving this comment on all your Helium vids as I'd like you to read this and make a couple of IMPORTANT fixes! I just purchased Helium today (after some issues where Atom2 wasn't a good fit.) I have a song that is a swung 3/4. It's annoying that Helium doesn't have swing (I knew that before buying) but thought I'd just record my parts without quantisation. But it seems quantisation can't be defeated. And there is no quantisation value that will play my rhythm correctly, So helium is useless for this song! Helium needs swing. but it DESPERATELY needs a way to record with quantisation of required! Hope you read this and make a few tweaks! THANKS!
Yes, you can reduce quantisation to 1/128th but you cannot currently turn it off completely. I would have thought that good enough. I will look into adding swing at some point in the near future as I'm sure many people will make good use of it.
@@PaultheMusicMan That would be great Paul, I did try 128th notes, and it was close to being ok. I was playing 8th notes chords with the swung 3/4 and it was just out enough on occasion to sound kinda bad. I saw your new video too and it all looks very promising!
Hope the update drops today. Also is there some way of freezing the area of screen your working on. I keep moving the screen when I’m trying to draw notes. Great stuff Paul well done.
@@PaultheMusicMan I can’t disagree with you there, that’s why it would be nice to have an option to freeze an area of screen while working on it. Managed to make my first full tune a few days ago with it. Loving how easy it is to import midi files. And song mode is Pure Genius. Tempo changes and tempo ramping over a series of bars would be nice, but I think helium DigiStix and multitrack combined in AUM makes for one hell of a good Daw, and a lot less temperamental than cubaisis 3. Loving it, App of the Year so far.
@@PaultheMusicMan Got a problem for you. I just created a drum pattern in DigiStix. I then recorded the pattern live from DigiStix into helium. Upon playback using DigiStix as just a sound source the timing us bang on perfect but it’s not playing the right sounds. I have tried using different kits, and also transposing the output of helium, both up and down and I still get the same resaults. Got any ideas ?
Jus worked out what went wrong. The pattern In DigiStix was in 16ths, but i quantised the input of helium to 32ths, which produced the anomaly of only playing a fraction of each drum sample in DigiStix. A very interesting anomaly. Oh on the subject of DigiStix any chance of letting us export a midi file in pattern or song mode. A wave file would also be nice if your in a generous mood, and the same would be nice for Digikeys as well, as there are lots of instances where it would be useful to export and import into helium or other apps. Hi Paul amazing features on this tutorial! When you trigger clips using the keyboard it is possible to trigger them with Bluetooth Midi Controller using Program Change messages? If yes can you explain how to assign them?
Although we don't respond to Program Change messages it may be possible to do this using AUM. Not only can you trigger Helium loops with note information, we also expose the loops and gated loops as automation parameters. So you could use AUM to assign program changes to these automation params.
@@fernandodias112 You need to look at AUM. Click the hamburger menu next to Helium and select the orange mixer looking icon at the top right of this menu. You will see a massive list of things within Helium you can automate. Scroll down to the 'Schedule Loop 1' option and select it. Tap LEARN and press the pad on your controller. Now to use this you need to have configured your loops, but it should work. If LEARN doesn't do the job you can manually select PC as the trigger type (other options are CC/Note). Now repeat for each loop/pad combination.

I am using the Helium in AUM and just for this example I am sending notes to a Synth but also I am using drums provided by Lumbeat which is Funk Drummer ( hope you know this app) and I have 2 schedule loops with PC0 and PC1 and on Funk Drummer is PC0 for the live pad1 and PC1 for the live pad2 ( two different drum patterns ) and this app has MIDI IN and MIDI OUT settings. So the idea is triggering loop one with drum sequence on live pad 1 and trigger the loop 2 with the other drum sequence! But when I trigger all the Helium and the Drums are not synchronized! Do you have any clue how can I get the loops synchronized? Don’t know if is something related with midi clock? Hope you can help me! Thank you!
@@fernandodias112 It is a little hard to understand exactly what you are trying to do. Is Func Drummer an AUv3 for instance? If you are just sending notes on two different channels and not using remote looping then you need to enable Sync in Helium to ensure it is synced to AUM. Then it is just a case of getting the Drum machine to sync to AUM's tempo too. I'm not familiar with this product so can't explain how that is done. If you are triggering remote loops then you have Remote enabled and not Sync, so Helium is running at its own tempo. So you need to make sure Helium, AUM and Func Drummer are all set to the correct tempo. It can get a little tricky with IAA apps so I advise against this where possible.
Remember Helium is midi notes and controllers so there is no global standard for copying these events between apps like there is with audio. To copy notes you need to tap on the Select tool and draw a selection rectangle around the notes you want to copy, then press the Clipboard and then Copy (just as you would in any package). To paste, place the play cursor at a location by tapping on the ruler, then pick Clipboard->Paste.
Hi, I have a problem with Helium, could you help me? When I activate the remote function and then deactivate it, the synth plugins loaded in AUM no longer work, the midi signal no longer arrives. To get it working again I have to restart Helium. Have you ever had the same problem? Thanks for your tutorials
No, I can't say as though I've seen this happening to me and nobody else has reported the issue. There is no way just activating the remote in Helium could srop other synth plugins from working as I have no control of AUM. The worst that could happen is that I stop sending MIDI data.

@@GiovanniNazzaro Can you check the status of the MIDI Thru option in settings, and also the remote control channel in the Remote Toolbar. When this is set to a specific channel it stops incoming MIDI on that channel passing through to other instruments.
@@GiovanniNazzaro Yes, this is because the inoming MIDI in REMOTE mode is meant to be used to control switching loops and not triggering instruments. At least you finally found a reason for this issue.
Hi Paul, just made a some extensive recording testing. The current version seems unstable while recording in sync mode (thus taking advantage of the AUM metronome), it keeps crashing. If I record without sync I don’t have this problem. But then I have no metronome. You might want to check in to it.

Are you loop recording or just recording a streight passage without loop? i've just run a quick tesrt with and without loop and it seems to be working for me.Can you give me any more details? Can you try recording input using AUM's keyboard for instance?

There is a velocity button within the Randomization window for this.... humanization however is a good idea!!

Hi Paul it is possible work with Helium and DiGistix and trigger loops combined with the drum patterns using PC or CC on AUM?
I believe you can send CC's to switch patterns in DigiStix (CC20 1-15 off the top of my head).
Would also be cool to be able to change loop type from the hold dialogue :)

Yeah, but I don't like the two finger scrolling as implemented by some.... to me it doesn't feel natural.

Hi, I have a problem with Helium, could you help me? When I activate the remote function and then deactivate it, the synth plugins loaded in AUM no longer work, the midi signal no longer arrives. To get it working again I have to restart Helium. Have you ever had the same problem? Thanks for your tutorials
No, I can't say as though I've seen this happening to me and nobody else has reported the issue. There is no way just activating the remote in Helium could srop other synth plugins from working as I have no control of AUM. The worst that could happen is that I stop sending MIDI data.
@@PaultheMusicMan Thanks, unfortunately I have been trying since last night, but every time I click on remote the signal from the midi controller no longer reaches helium.
@@GiovanniNazzaro Can you check the status of the MIDI Thru option in settings, and also the remote control channel in the Remote Toolbar. When this is set to a specific channel it stops incoming MIDI on that channel passing through to other instruments.
@@PaultheMusicMan When I press remote function the midi Thru go off automatically. I need turn on in settings for restore the midi signal.
@@GiovanniNazzaro Yes, this is because the inoming MIDI in REMOTE mode is meant to be used to control switching loops and not triggering instruments. At least you finally found a reason for this issue.

Hi Paul, just made a some extensive recording testing. The current version seems unstable while recording in sync mode (thus taking advantage of the AUM metronome), it keeps crashing. If I record without sync I don’t have this problem. But then I have no metronome. You might want to check in to it.
That's strange, I will give it a good test today and get back to you. Are you loop recording or just recording a streight passage without loop? i've just run a quick tesrt with and without loop and it seems to be working for me.Can you give me any more details? Can you try recording input using AUM's keyboard for instance?
I just checked for crash logs in version v1.06 and there are none from anyone so far. Did you get the opertunity to submit a log?
@@PaultheMusicMan straight passage, without loop. I’ve been using an external keyboard connected through irig midi pro. Will try the internal keyboard later today.
@@campingbackofen7246 Yes, that would be useful as it might be something being send from the master keyboard that is not being recorded properly or that I am not supporting. It would also be good to know what version of iOS you are running too.
@@PaultheMusicMan hi again, did some hard core testing on the AUM internal keyboard, and everything worked perfect. So, I must check my external keyboard and connection. Sorry for bothering you. Your product is perfect, my setup isn’t.
