Nice! I loved how that second fish just sprinted right at you for like 30 seconds. I also appreciated seeing the different retrieves! You should keep showing your different approaches like that. Very useful!
I use the Little Giant 6’ Flip-N-Lite aluminum ladder. I’ve heard the fiberglass version is also great. A little heavier, but a little more durable. I’m actually gonna to be doing a video about it sometime this season. I’ve made a few alterations to it that have made it more comfortable, and more transportable. I’ve loved it. I’ve used it for over 5 seasons now.
If you were a first timer again would you recommend a guided trip to find where the fish are, or do you think I could get on some fish without a guide/knowledge from someone with lake experience?
It really just depends. Hiring a guide for the first day at least would almost guarantee that you catch fish. Then the pressure is off for the rest of your trip and you can enjoy exploring a bit. For me, the many days spent struggling to find fish and figure out the lake made it a much more enjoyable experience once I finally started catching fish. However, if you don’t have much previous experience fly fishing lakes, it could be very frustrating to try to figure that out while battling the weather and the crowds at pyramid lake. If you decide to get a guide, I would recommend Mike Curtis from Pyramidlakeflyfishing.com.
I’ll have to show you my ladder set up. It has a platform for the top step, and I sit on the stabilizer thing. I can stay there all day. Some fellas go all out and weld gaudy contraptions with boat seats, cup holders, and the whole nine yards.
The green line is a bit of 25 lb Amnesia with non-slip loop knots on either end. I just use that as my loop-to-loop connection between my fly line and my leader. I find that 12 lb leader material cuts into my fly line over time, but the 25 lb Amnesia doesn’t. The shooting line is OPST’s Lazar Line, 40 lb.
Sweet video too man! Looking thru your channel your the pyramid lake king! Haha

I really enjoy your videos and tips. I was there a month ago and had an epic time. Purple bodied bugger and popcorn beetle were the ticket!
This is dooooope!!
Thanks man! We’ve gotta throw a trip together soon.
You are killing it!
You make me want to start fishing.
Hey soggy, I have a question. What ladder do you use for pyramid? It looks unique and really cool!

Great way to get to deep fish - hard to stand a ladder for too long

What is that green line in your leader when you are fishing 2 flies? What shooting line is that pink line. You are bombing it out there!

Who is the incredibly handsome gentleman at the 11:28 mark? Asking for a friend.
