I have a friend in France. She complains a lot about how police are allowed by law to beat up people they arrest. You can't do anything against it. There's a lot of demonstrations going on because of it but a lot of them rarely go on news in other countries. I'm from Denmark where we actually do report on some of them. It's crazy to see some of the clips that escape from the country where police just goes crazy because they're allowed to. Not because there's a reason to.

I’ve been to Paris once, and other parts of France twice, decades apart. I have zero interest in going back. Being anglophone while also speaking fluent French, albeit with a French Canadian accent, I found Parisians in general to be completely obnoxious, with absolutely no legitimate reason to arrogantly believe they are superior to anyone else. The Japan story caught me a bit off-guard but strikes me as a community thing.
Foreigners who LIVE here are often treated like unicorns. It's pretty special to see someone non-japanese in the wild, especially one who isn't a tourist.
But it can also depend on where you yourself are from. Africans and SEA people get the short end of the stick in Tokyo thanks to a rather undeserved reputation.
Also foreigners in Japan suffer from the mistakes of others, and are grouped together regardless of background.
Wanna go to a place where Europeans, Americans, Brazilians, Mexicans, and Indians are all treated the same? Come to Japan! EVERYONE gets treated with an equal amount of barely contained xenophobia!

Second one is kind of misrepresenting Egypt. Egypt is a very nice country, excluding Cairo (where they visited.)
Due to locals knowing it’s the place where most tourists go, all the immoral locals go there to exploit foreigners.
As such, when people go there and get exploited (due to it being the only part of the country that they see) they get a misrepresentation of Egypt and the people who live there.

I'd hate to say it, but from what I've heard the reason you likely have had nothing but good experiences with French cops is because you're French yourself.
Foreigners often get treated much worse by cops in most places, although being arrested and put in a holding cell for the crime of asking to know where there's a nice burger shop, and then being assaulted is pretty insane.
Only story that comes close is when a drunk Japanese man was attacking this American dude, and the Japanese cop nearby was just watching it happen and laughing.

France can be awlful if you don't start speaking in French with them, even if it's just to say you don't know to speak in French. I'd rather not visit Paris again, but I'd go for a tour arround the countryside, best meal I had in my life (and this is comming from a brazillian) when I got lost and ended up in a small village there, nothing like the dull food of the capital. The water there too, it's most definetly not water. But despite all that, I can at least eat, drink and most importantly, breathe there, which is not true for Spain! Everywhere I went there stenched of cigarettes, and to breathe a little better I had to close all windows of the hotel room and turn on the a.c., so that's the place I'm never going again unless there's a ban on smoking in some places like here in São Paulo.

Regarding France, yes Spain can be like this too - as a tourist you may have ZERO rights. The locals can pretty much do what they like to you and it's just tough luck for you. I remember reading a story from a UK magazine about a woman who'd been raped in the hotel she stayed in, in Spain, by the old Bell-hop guy!!! And the police did nothing. She found out he'd done it to others before too and never lost his job nor was prosecuted. Nobody cared because she was just a lowlife British tourist - how awful is that!
That's why people should discourage others from visiting these countries unless they straighten themselves out. The irony is they rely on tourism to survive, yet mistreat/hate the tourists.
I get that tourists must be annoying but mistreating them is wrong.

Being a well traveled person most places outside of the USA and Europe you will find that most prices are negotiatable. In some areas if you don't negotiate it is considered offensive. Also there are so many places in the world that trash pick up/sanitation services are a luxury. You will find people living in dumps but most areas trash pits are in people's backyard. There are so many crowded cities where you can find cows and goats wandering down highways. Also there is a very different experience if you are traveling with all white people and if you have a mixed race group/nonwhite group. I have been on buses traveling on roads that they had no business being on 2000 ft drops. They race other buses/truck/cars because half the highway is collapsed and there us no place to go to pass. I don't remember ANYTHING before I hit 4 years old, so despite being born and living the first four years in NY before staying with my Aunt in Germany. I feel my life began in Germany (US base, Aunt was a Soldier stationed there during my four years staying with her as a favor for my mother as she finished College), and my life should finish there as well! That Narrative Trope where the end of the story is where the story first began LOL

Being a black man who DESPITE never ever commiting a crime, learned to FEAR the police! I tend not to feel like trusting the police ANYWHERE really! I did my HW and found they can be worse in other places and frankly
Take note this is NOT me condemning the police as a whole. But as said, no one is willing to play the COIN TOSS as OP1 learned the hard way. Seeing the female officer, I think he was being treated like shit for the CRIME of being British or so they think. My guess is the asshole (waiter) lied and claimed OP was drunk and attacked him and he defended himself and DESPITE likely a WITNESS. Decided OP was the aggressor (The Breathalyzer was VERY telling, the fact OP drank meant he'd be listed as drunk misconduct even if he wasn't intoxicated, the fact they picked BRUTALITY despite the fact it was OBVIOUS OP wasn't a local really makes me wonder WHAT they were thinking! These foreign cops USUALLY try to avoid showing their WORSE side unless it warrants it to foreigners as it would reflect BADLY if it gets out of their sphere of influence, but guess as others said, if they are KNOWN for this, then I see they give ZERO fucks) and OP landed TAILS on this encounter in getting the NASTIEST precent to take the call. This is why I won't chance the police elsewhere! Hell my brother got drunk and started fighting me and our baby brother, Ma had to call the cops (he's a body builder, so fighting him is HELL for a TUBBY guy like me who doesn't fight and stopping baby brother who IS a fighter and MURDEROUSLY hates the brother in question who was a bully to him LONG before the Drink got involved and WOULD succeed if allowed was hard! Cops were near READY to gun him down despite the fact they COULD restrain him as he didn't have a weapon and the idiot was SHOUTING at them to shoot himself DESPITE the guns pointed at him if my mother didn't SHRIEK like a banshee to remind the officers they were being WITNESS! You know how BAD it will look killing a son in front of his mother even if he was a little shit! And my mother HATES the cops justifably! A reminder that even when you've done no wrong or plan to, the cops can do things to REALLY make you distruss them! It's why no one likes to call them! Especially me after a Racial Profiling incident that almost resulted in a trip with my YOUNGER about 11 to my 22 baby brother and me going to the library to hang out as brothers resulting in him sitting in a station and me sitting in a cell because "I fit a profile" and had the BAD luck of going out when a CRIME happened near the area I was heading! Me and baby brother JOKED on how it made no sense that if I WAS the criminal, as described by them, I had to have stole a car, had a POLICE CHASE, got away, went MILES from the crime scene area, changed into a sweater, grabbed my little brotehr and RETURN to said Crime scene with him in tow just to get CAUGHT! Made no sense and worse thing, the criminal had NO beard and was a CUE BALL HEAD with LIGHT Black Skin.....I have DARKER skin, more so on some parts of my head because of Eczema, a Mountain Man Beard, and I skipped getting my hair cut as my hair grows fast that time so I had enough to make an AFRO! And he wore a BROWN SHIRT, not a Hoodie Sweater, next to the fact the guy was lanky and had muscles and I'm big boned as Cartman from South Park! So how the FUCK did I get profiled? Oh we know why damn racists profiling cops, and the worst thing was the three officers were a black man, Hispanic woman and Asian man! I laughed how my mom warned us about White Cops, yet I got traumatized by Non-White Male ones instead LOL

So many plot holes in first story. If op had a witness who called the police on his behalf why were they only willing to believe the waiter? Why did the witness suddenly disappear when they arrested op. Sounds like op was being a jerk and got his come uppance and now wants to play victim.

Oh yeah and Japan is mad racist, but even worse towards Koreans. It’s so bad for them it’s insane. Oddly black men are more tolerated than black women. I don’t know why and it’s similar in Korea too. Not saying I had no issues in either nation but in comparison it’s was 100 times better. I was near Osaka and Seoul so maybe somebody can explain this?

From everything I have heard Japan is incredibly racist. With a popular that is 99% homogenous, anyone that isn't like them is ridiculed in some shape or form. I heard it's peculiarly bad for mixed children, in some cases the parents opt to home school the children to stop the bullying. I still want to go, as it looks lovely, but I'm not sure if I would want to live and raise a family there.

3:00 yeah, egypt is not pleasant, do not recommend in any way. Theyre in the middle of economic collapse and we where consistently harrassed to give money. Its became the definition of a "crap hole" country, and its made all the more dissapointing by there great ancient cities being giant trash piles with no form of garbage or waste management. Like youre country has some of the greatest monuments to the ancient world and youre incapable of leveraging that to modernize your country

Egypt is awesome if you know how to navigate it. It's not a country where you can go there by yourself the first time. You should go on a tour first with Egyptian guides and then you will have enough knowledge on how to do it yourself. I've been 5 times and every visit was amazing. No other country on Earth has such intact historical, ancient remains.
